What GPU should you pair with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D? 

Whenever the 5800x3D is mentioned I think that the undervolting tutorial should be included . -30v on all eight cores has made a huge difference to me. CPU temp is down between 20-30 degrees for me on CPU intensive games and it's performing even better in benchmarks. And is 100% stable.

Dudes couldn't recommend one other gpu , the majority of your viewers can't afford a 4090

Went from a 5900x to a 5800x3D (gaming system only). My monitor is 3440x1440p and have it paired with a 3080ti. Overall I feel the system is pretty well balanced and do not have any bottlenecking concerns. My current plan is to skip Ryzen 7000 (even the 3D V-Cache chips), skip RTX4000 and reassess things when the following gen comes out. Time to just enjoy my system for a while rather than be stuck in the never ending upgrade loop in the hunt for more and more FPS.

Just upgraded from a R9 3900X to a R7 5800X3D for my RTX 3080 and oh my God. Didn't realise how much that older Ryzen 9 CPU was holding me back! I've gained 20- 30 more FPS on PUBG, COD, HALO and Escape from Tarkov on an Ultrawide but it is my minimum frame rate that have shot up dramatically that are the star of the show. Everything is so smooth now. I struggled with Escape from Takove especially and often droped to 45 - 60 FPS. Now I am hovering over 100 FPS most of the time! I still can't believe it. The content on this chanel is absolutely next level...Thanks again Steve and Tim!

The simple answer to this question is the 3080 or 3080ti or a 6800xt or 6900xt on AMD. This paralysis by analysis is getting old, I expect clarity from from these RU-vidrs.

People get so obsessed with cpu and gpu bottlenecks but completely forget monitor refresh rates. When I look at cpu benchmarks, any part that is achieving over 240 fps is good for a long time.

There is also the thing that CPU utilization can differ massively between games. Some which use a lot of AI entities can suck up the same CPU totally while in another game it'll be barely used. If you're the type of gamer that plays everything, you're bound to have imbalanced scenarios often. There's no optimization that can work across the board. Resolution has the biggest impact though so decide based on that.

I have mine paired with a 4090 but of course I am playing at 4k and I am not a competitive gamer, so I am pretty much constantly GPU bound anyway and I don't think I lose any significant performance

For what is worth (SimRacer here), the comments of FPS requirement is car simulators/games is accurate. I personally use 120fps block on my 144hz panel (I match the refresh rate w/o VSync, of course). Going from 60 to 120 is a HUGE change, specifically to be precise on braking points and markers. Then input latency from 60 to 120 is... ALSO VERY important. Currently I have a 5800x3D with a 7900 XTX and I can do 200+ fps in games at EPIC settings (ACC for example) and I tried lowering the detail to medium and drive at 300+ fps for a couple of races in some competition environment. ZERO difference in latency I noted and Zero improvement elsewhere. In fact, I benefit by seeing more detail on the track as a Shadow on the asphalt or a scratch in a wall can better be used as a braking reference. Same for avoiding the trees and far distance cars popping in and out of the image. That distracts you a lot. So in summary I agree with the "how many fps do you need on a racing game? " comment. Not 'many' is my answer. 60 at minimum. 90-100 is nice. 120-144 is Ideal, anything else is not useful on my personal opinion. Last note, I dropped my PowerLimit on the 7900 XTX to 90%, the efficiency increase is ABISMAL. At 330w (Aprox) I loose less than 5% of the framerate in Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC)

I have a 5800X (not 3D) paired with an RTX 4080 and I’ve been more than happy with the performance. I prefer to crank all of the graphics settings to max at 1440P and I consistently get over 100 FPS in AAA titles with ultra raytracing enabled and my 4080 is getting a good workout. New games continue to be more and more taxing on the GPU, so I can see my setup being able to play new games at decent settings and 1440P for 5+ years.

Do a bottle neck series please, like what's the max gpu to get for 1600, 2600, 3600, 5600, 7600 with close as possible to being free of bottleneck

I went for a 3080 and a 5800x3D. Works so good at 1440p, especially in warzone 2 :) I went from 100-110 fps low settings with the 3700x to 150-190 fps with the 5800x3D with high tuned settings. Very happy about the results!

At this point I consider upgrading to a 5800X3D the best option. GPU prices are just ridiculous in germany anyway and switching to AM5 still costs more than buying a 5800X3D.

Running a 4090 and 5800X3D. Mostly play 4K or over watch at 1440p and don’t have any issues with gpu usage being under 100%. It definitely depends on what you play. FS2020 is slow on the ground but the 7000 series is worse, may upgrade to the 7000X3D series if performance is way better.

Since I installed it I noticed 100% gpu usage in most of my games. I can highly recommend purchasing it when you on am4

Exactly why I picked up the 5800x3d a couple months back, upgrade from a 3800x. So when I get a 4080 or 4090 soon I will be set for 4k gaming. I can't be bothered to build a whole new system.

all this guy has to say is what gpu is good for the high settings and which gpu is good for the low settings it isnt a hard question at all but he still decides to over complicate things to the point where you still have no idea what gpu will be good for the 5800x3D

There is nothing on the market that doesn’t bottleneck the 4090. Even tuned 13900KS to 6.0GHZ will in more cpu heavy titles like Warzone.

I have a 4090 founders for my 5800x3d and not bottle necking for me. People don’t understand the ones who ask this question are the same who just download a game and play 😂. Don’t know about settings or dx11 vs dx12. Also have a 390hz monitor

I remember when the 2080 ti was a massive cpu bottleneck when it came out. If you're buying a 4090 or 4080 or maybe a future 4080/4090 ti or a 7900xt/xtx you're buying it for futureproofness or for high refresh 4k gaming I have a 7900xtx but I plan on keeping it for the next 2 generations of cards. Don't look to into it people just enjoy your games and enjoy pc gaming as a whole!

I have mine paired with a 6800xt. Most of the time the GPU is the limiting factor, if I could have waited longer I would have got the 6950xt instead.

I have 5600x and 6900xt. I play in 1440p. No issues with CPU bottlenecking.

Upgraded to 5800x3d from 5600 paired with my 6800xt. Massive improvement on some games. In warzone 2 I was getting 140-150 with 5600, after I upgraded it went from 220 to 240 fps. Also getting bottleneck when playing cyberpunk or horizon zero dawn when I had my 5600 and Im playing on 1080p. This card and cpu likes to get hot, but undervolt is the way to go

I paired my 5800X3D with my 6800XT. Previously, I had 3600x. I remember on Ghost Recon Wildlands, I was getting 70FPS with 2k Resolution on 3600x whereas after upgrade to 5800x3D, I got close to 144FPS. It was a massive bump. Ever since the upgrade, any graphically demanding game managed to hit 99% on GPU utilization. But on games like RTS game where GPU is less demanding, it hovers aroun 60%. It really does depends on what you play but bottlenecking really does ruin any game.

I have a 6700xt working with 5800x3d, the GPU is always fully loaded and CPU is about 70+% usage when playing BF2042 at 1080p high settings with 150+FPS(64 player mode), enough for my budget 1080p 144hz monitor.

To start with, I had a asus b550f mb, r7 3800x cpu, asus rx6800xt, 32g of Corsair ram, 1to nvme gen3. All stock, no updated bios, I would reach 80/90fps in Asseto Corsa Competizione on my 2560x1440 monitor. After updating bios to latest version, was able to switch on SAM and it gave me 110/120 fps. Now that I upgraded and switched my 3800x for the 5800x3d, I reach 220/230 fps max with a solid 144 suited to my 144hz screen. What a beast! And a damn good optimization too !!!

owning a 5800x3d, ive personally found that the 3080ti or 6900/6800xt is right around the PERFECT balancing spot for performance and cost. that tier of cpu/gpu, really do mesh well. (my own usecase is 1440p / VR with mostly Indy/aa games, occasional AAA)

i got an RTX 4070 ti and im getting a 5800x3d, will i be ok?

I chose to grab a R5 5600 instead of a R7 5800X3D, that way I managed to squeeze a Sapphire RX 6900XT Toxic watercooled card which was at an insane discount in my budget. The alternative was RX 6750XT or 3060Ti w/ the R7. For 1440p gaming the pairing works amazingly, will get the R7 later since its a cheaper upgrade than stepping up a GPU tier.

sold my 5900X and bought a 5800x3D last week to pair my 4090 FE with. playing in 3440x1440 at 175hz most titles hit cap on fps which is just what i wanted to maximize the display. most titles benefit from the larger cache, open world, sandbox, mmo. i can grow the 4090 into a faster platform 2 years from now with intels new socket

I had a 3600 and a 1660 super, going up to a 5700x and keeping the 1660 super fixed up all my games that weren't fast enough. Everyone's use is different. Of course yes my build has a GPU in it's future, not yet though.

I got a 6950XT AND a 5800X3D for $1000. With SAM and FSR, I MAX EVERYTHING out @ 4K/60FPS. (RT Disabled)

I think it's important to consider you can use technologies like DLDSR to force more work onto a GPU like a 4090 so that a its working hard enough to for the 5800x3D to 'keep up' so to speak. and DLDSR applies to all games so you can really mitigate that bottleneck at ultrawide 1440p in my case.

Isn't even RPL and Zen4 bottle necking the 4090 below 4K? I'm using the 4090 on 4k 144hz and my GPU usage is constant 100%, though i believe the Zen4X3D might be the best option, specially for 0.1 lows and weird optimized games like spiderman.

I'm using a 5800X3D and RTX 4090 in a B450 Tomahawk with 3866MHz ram running on 3600. I tightened the RAM timings using "DRAM calculator for ryzen". 15% more fps in Cyberpunk in 1440p.

Here in Denmark prices for am5 is crazy, and even a decent intel z690 ddr4 mobo are also still quite expensive, veil a good b550 mobo is hella cheap and also fits into my theme build. And I already got a rtx 3070ti, a good set of 32gb ddr4 ram, and want to try a AMD cpu/x3d, so the plan is to get the 5800x3d. I play mostly Apex, mixed in with a few other types of games here and there, 1080p 240hz competitive settings, but plan is to go 1440p competitive settings. This should last me some years just fine, just as my current intel i7 build has done for about 5 years now.

I dont really like how the question was dodged. If it is just about pairing with a 5800x3d, it mostly depends on your resolution. It does not matter if there are 200 or 400 FPS. Your display will be most likely around 144hz anyway. Long Story short. Answer should have been. 6600 or 3060 for 1080p, 6700 or 3070 for 2k and best/highend for 4k. Ofc if you want to play on max Details. Go one category up if you want to be sure. (As for AMD, 6650 and These inbetween Things are around 5-10% extra, Not more,). That had should been the real answer. At least in my opinion. (Gaming on 5800x3d and a 6700xt on 1080p and everything is just smooth. And yeah, I cant part with my 1080p plasma screen TV :) therefore 1080p it will be.)

The F1 22 example is also kinda funny since some competetive racers limit their game to 60 because FPS in this game affect the physics and its easier to drive over the kerbs etc.

Newsflash. If your CPU isn’t bottlenecking your GPU, the chances are your GPU is bottlenecking your CPU. If they’re both hovering in and out of 100% they are probably bottlenecking each other, momentarily.

My personal answer was to move up to 4k. I have the 5800x3d paired with an FE 4090 and an LG C2, so I am limited to 120Hz/fps and it works fine. Before the 4090 I was running a 5800x + FE 3080 at 344x1440 and that was fine too. Also it means I can wait a year before considering the next CPU maybe. I suppose you don't miss what you don't have. Stop watching benchmarks and enjoy playing.

Nailed it. I paired an RTX 4090 with a 5800X3D slotted into my old X470F motherboard with PCI-E 3.0 (The Horror!). Paired to an LG C2 at 120HZ 4K Ultra Settings, the gaming experience is fantastic. Are there some fps on the table? Probably. Would it make a difference to the experience? No it wouldn't. I'm really not sure what the deal is with all this obsession over several hundred fps at low resolution.

I've got a 4090 paired with my 5800x3D. Currently only rocking a a 1440p 165hz monitor so right now that's the bottleneck.

I'm gonna replace my 3700X with a 5800X3D in a week or so - not so much for the maximum fps (with a 4080 & running a 3440x1440 UW) but mainly for the improved 1% lows.

Steve does not know what he is saying when he says racing games dont require high fps compared to fps games, in fact high fps in racing games is more important as the higher fps allows the driver/player to place the car where he wants more precisely. I did calculations waaay back when I was an avid sim racer, and with higher fps the preciseness of placing your car on track ie where u want it goes down from meters to cm the higher fps u run. Dont forget that you are supposed to travel at 200-270km/h and then u need to convert it to frames/s and u will see how big of a deal it actually is.

I upgraded from a 5600G, in a MSI b450 a Pro max and a 6700XT to the 5800x3D. The 5600G is basically a 5500 and has 16MB L3 cache which is totally fine for most games. I changed to the 5800x3D cause I wanted to have a better performance in Star Citizen in 1440p and holy cow the game runs smooth now cause the 1% lows are a non issue now. Since I want to skip the newest generation and squeeze out AM4+ didnt wanna buy the CPU used I changed now and I think for 300 bucks its good investment for the next years to come. My system is fairly new (summer 2022) and I dont think about replacing everything just cause AM5 came out. Am4 is rocksolid and even pcie 4.0 advantages dont seem worth it. So I stick to my stuff, am safe for some years with the 5800x3D and when shit goes down I upgrade my GPU 😎

I have a 4090 paired with 5800x3d. I'm very happy with the results. I'm either playing on a 4k 120hz Oled tv or on a Samsung g7 240hz 1440p monitor depending on what game I'm playing.

Great answer with the nuance the question requires. FWIW, on performance mode in Fortnite with a 5800x3D+3070, uncapped I can get about 500-700 fps in a pub and the 3070 is only at about 50-60% utilisation. I would get NO benefit at all from a gpu upgrade, and I didn't notice any difference in Fortnite coming from a 1660ti, which will happily spit out 240fps on low/performance. In Sea of Thieves however, there was a HUGE difference between the 2 GPU's and I'm sure I would see a huge difference again if I went up to a 4090. There are a lot of variables and it's good to see the idea of 'bottlenecking' being addressed properly. All in all, a common hardware unboxed W.

I have a 4090 with 5800x3D. display im using is a neo g9, the gpu is always at 95-99% usage. but when i had the lg 34 inch 21:9 its was much lower usage, about 60-80%. At the degrees side im at 60-65c on cpu with NH-D15 black and 59-61c on gpu. using fractal torrent stock rgb fan with one ekstra exit fan.

Nice video HUB. Also an interesting point to consider GPU and CPU bottlenecks are not equal. A significant CPU bottleneck often delivers erratic frame times with large FPS drops and gives a horrible inconsistent animation experience in a game. Reaching a GPU bottleneck only slightly effects frame times and often gives a far more enjoyable and smooth animation experience in games. So a tip to the audience if you hit CPU limits before GPU then try to put a FPS cap in place a little below the CPU limit to keep the experience smooth and consistent for your game play.

1 day ago I bought 5800x3d for my 4090. On 5700x even in 4k there are some stutters, on 120 hz tv. When I install x3d - gameplay become much smoother, usage of GPU increased. I hope use this setup about 5-7 years.

People will still play at such a low resolution (1080p) if they can have a monitor that reaches a stupid high refresh rate. Anything over 165Hz on a 1080p monitor is overkill and you should of used that money to go up in resolution.

Upgraded to a 5800X3D from a 3600. Did some bargin' hunting and flipped up to a MSI 3080 for under $100 after my flips. With two 165hz monitors I am set for quite a while.

Currently mine is paired with the RTX 3070 Tuf Gaming OC (overclocked with Precision X1 around 1950mhz) at 1440p, high to ultra settings...and it's really great experience on just about every game. Two things I am considering: 1st, the idea of getting a RTX 4070ti (specifically the MSI Gaming Trio, since the price is closest to MSRP) and also, the AMD 7000 series X3D chips are about to be released (personally, not building a new DDR5 system any time soon ), but just to see how they perform in games, considering they are a NEXT-GEN version of the 5800X3D in every respect. Anticipating Hardware Unboxed reviews and benchmarks!

If you're spending $3,000 for a 4090/5800X3D/blah blah blah to play games, you need to get a life...period. Or get a console if you're just playing Fortnite/COD/RB6 Siege/Insert FPS game here. The amount of money people are now spending to sit on their butts in front of a screen for hours on end is getting insane. You wonder why GPU's are so expensive? Because they can and you will pay.

My build: R7 5800x3d with Phantom Spirit 120 SE cooler RTX 4070 eagle oc TUF Gaming B550M-Plus 2x16 gb 3200 mhz (XMP, CL 16-20-20 1.35V) SSD 1tb + HDD 1tb 850w 80+ gold Case with 4 fans (3x140 mm front + 1x120mm back) Everything is on stock settings, except ram, which is on XMP profile, so it could run at 3200 mhz. Stress tested it with AIDA64 extreme and CPU temps are 72 - 73 max, with clocks up to 4450 mhz, and GPU is 71 max, with up to 95 hotspot. So, I'm fine with that. But ... When gaming, according to MSI afterburner overlay, 1% and 0,1% lows are terrible. I mean, they're really, really low! Like, I hit 85 to 110 fps on 4K, fsr quality in Dead Island 2 and 1% and 0,1% lows are at, like, 2 and 3 fps!? And, it's like that in Horizon Forbidden West, Ereban: Shadow Legacy ... According to MSI afterburner! There are no stutters and no frame drops. Anyone have any idea? Thanx in advance ..

Personally i think that a 4080 is the most powerful gpu that you can throw to a 5800x3d without having any bottleneck concerns

I am stuck waiting on the x3d cpus coming out. until then i have a i5 8400 and just dropped a 7900xtx in it.. ugh.. its okay but waiting to decide on mobo and cpu.

Running mine with a 4080, huge upgrade over the 5800x. No bottlenecks at 4K or even 4K with quality DLSS. 1440p runs great the vast majority of the time too

I play at 1440p and have a 3080. I just ordered a 5800x3d and it's out for delivery to me today, so I should have it installed and running in just a few hours. I am very excited because I know this will be an awesome experience. I keep up with reviews from this channel and others and I know I'm in for a treat.

Why does no-one ever talk about the plain 5800X (no 3D) anymore? I have an 8 year old system R7 1800X with a 1080 (not Ti) and the mobo has been BIOS updated to accept an R7 5800X I acquired a few years ago but couldn't install until now (soon) - I'd like to know how that 1080 is going to impact the 5800X and viceversa because I can't afford to upgrade the GPU until probably next year, no matter how much I want to do it now. Anyone have any insights to the performance gains or losses?

My current setup is a Ryzen 5 2600X with a Vega 64 and I'm planning to upgrade on a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, because it slots in on my current Motherboard and I'm mainly Playing Fortnite on 1440p low settings and I think I'm CPU bottlenecked, because I experience a lot of laag spikes in the late game... Will the upgrade be worth it without also upgrading my GPU? Because in the current GPU market nothing really looks very compelling to be honest... (in the value aspect) I don't have high hopes for next gen midrange cards; might upgrade to a 6700xt though if I find a good deal

Was thinking I could get away with a 3700x and my new 4090 until I played Hogwarts legacy and saw my GPU usage between 30-50% only hitting 40-50frames in 4k. Saw a 5800x3d on sale for 295 and said fuck it, I'm leaving so much GPU unused

would love to know the impact of "post process" in games and how it scales with diferent tier cpus..

@Steve of course you hate this question and its difficult to answer, BUT its exactly the question which is driving ALL people willing to to buy a new or used GPU (as it is the most expensive part in the system, and there is NO ROOM for a wrong decision). You mention the most important bits needed to give a hint. What type of game (open world,...), what resolution is wanted (720p, 1080p, 1080p-UW,1440p, 1440p-UW, 2160p, 2160p-UW), ultimate eye-candy or barely visible. I have exactly the same problem upgraded to a 5800x3d, currently a 1440p-UW at 100 FPS, games (mainly ETS2 and ATS, Witcher3, Shadow of the tomb raider , The Talos principle, Pubg, Fortnite, GTL, GPL,Civ 6 , ...) so a wild mix of all genres, perhaps in the future also MS Flightsim, and probably a better monitor as my children already claimed my current monitor. The question is do i have to spend the 2000 bucks for the 4090 strix or does the 4080 noctua or strix (you can replace strix with suprim x) the job or probably the 7900 xtx odr a 4070ti. So Steve a LOT of input, how much more input do you need?

For me, high FPS is nice but consistency, how smooth and responsive it plays is more important. One thing that the 5800X3D has in spades is how smooth it keeps my games, that extra cache eliminates those tiny hitches that I had prior to using it.

My 5800X3D and 4080 max each other out, there is no bottleneck whatsoever.

A couple of years ago, my and my spouse were upgraded to new systems (Ryzen 5 2600 / Ryzen 5 1600af), went ahead and maxed out ram, etc. The point was to keep the systems through another AM4 upgrade generation with our purchased GTX 1080s (at the cusp of the GTX 2xxx release, after price drops). As such, due to different use cases for us, I have a 5800x3d and they have a 5900x upgrade pending for when I teardown the systems. The GTX 1080s are also, after years of use, getting slight (safety) upgrades to Radeon 6650XTs. Someone else commented about monitor refresh rates, and this is the important thing (along with resolution), when thinking of the games you play (as this video covers). In our house, we still play at 1080p on 60 hertz displays (one each for the game, a second for browser, Discord, etc.) There is no need for anything more than ~70 fps from the systems. And, in another 2 years or so, the CPUs will still be capable enough (with their 64/32 GBs of ram) for another midrange GPU upgrade (hopefully in a non-overpriced, little gains between generations, GPU market). Don't chase (waste money on) the absolute high end. Most only need 1440p, 144-160hz, at most. In our house, we don't even need that.

I have a 5800x3d paired with a 7900 xt and get about 150 fps in Cyberpunk @ 1440p 21:9 with RT turned off and FSR set to auto. I turned FSR to ultimate and get 80-90 fps. I am happy with the results. With RT on I get 50-60 fps. I think I will skip the 7k series processors and wait 2 years for the next 3d chips.
