This film still holds up as one of the finest, most incredible works ever committed to celluloid. A true, lightning in a bottle 10/10. Great analytical video!
I just want to say as a life long Ghostbusters fan, today, I'm 41 and was 5 when the original came out. And I love what you guys have done and the devotion to the material (source) and the hard work you've devoted to these videos. I guess what I mean to say is you are awesome!
@@alman54 We pronounce it "sheer" rather than "shire" when it is in a place name! So phonetically Shropshire would be "Shropsheer", Gloucestershire "Glostersheer", Leicestershire "Lestersheer" and so on. Some regional accents would have it be "sher" rather than "sheer", but by and large you'd be ok with either.
i only know how to pronounce it because i'm a John Tams fan(ten points if you know who he is without looking him up)....most of those shire places are pronounce sheer. you just have to listen to how the locals say it. but then again..... how many times have people mispronounced native american place names? I come from Wakulla county in North Florida.... some people pronounce it "wah koola" ... and even more than that if a person cares to look. you just don't know until you know lol
I love how this channel's Ghosbusters material is a perfect companion for the official Ghostbusters RU-vid channel, especially since that channel has been posting full episodes of the two GB cartoons every week for the last month or two.
@@alman54 That's one of my favorite non-GB videos from this channel, and their video about how Beetlejuice is an inverse to the classic haunted house trope.
@@Dargonhuman The Haunted House one is one of my favorites. So is the Dracula's Cape one. And being a former engineer, I found her studies of how the tech in GB works VERY interesting.
Since the Midnight Buffet it for a Theater Guild, it's probably a celebratory party for the end of a show that is right after the end of the last performance.
"Who eats at a midnight buffet?" You answered your own question a second earlier: Theater people. Haven't you ever been to a Denny's in a college town in the middle of the night?
“Who ya gonna call?” They came, they saw, they kicked its…well, you know the story. Ghostbusters has become part of the pop culture Hall of Fame, spawning a film sequel, two cartoon series and a host of lines that are still quoted today- “Don’t cross the streams,” “Are you the keymaster?,” “Back off man, I’m a scientist,” “He slimed me!” and many more. At the time, it was a gamble-a big-budget comedy starring a pair of Saturday Night Live alumni (Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd), a screenwriter (Harold Ramis) and Sigourney Weaver, who was still best known for her role in the original Alien. Ghostbusters would have to be a blockbuster to pay back its FX-inflated budget, at the time the highest ever for a comedy. Well, guess what… The title stars of Ghostbusters are three paranormal scientists-sarcastic “game show host” Peter Venkman, naïve Ray Stantz and brainiac Egon Spengler-who just lost their university research grant. The timing could have been better. Paranormal activity in New York City is heating up, and the boys just had their first run-in with a real manifestation over at the public library. On Peter’s urging, Ray takes out a third mortgage and the three set up shop in a dilapidated old fire station, promising to fight all spooks, spirits and specters as the proton-powered Ghostbusters. In a nicer part of town, concert cellist Dana Barrett has noticed some supernatural goings-on in her upscale apartment-eggs frying on the counter, an ancient pagan temple in her fridge, and so on. Against her better judgment, Dana makes the trip over to Ghostbusters HQ, where the womanizing Peter immediately tries to hit on her. Meanwhile, the lads have been up to their necks in ghosts, starting with a slime-trailing green blob in a fancy hotel. Egon figures that something big is bubbling up, and Dana and nerdy neighbor Louis are inadvertently involved. The Ghostbusters hire Winston Zeddemore as their fourth member, but the whole operation is shut down by an uptight EPA official and the Ghostbusters themselves are thrown in jail. Even worse, the HQ’s “Ghost Trap” has been shut off, freeing the captured spirits to prepare the coming of the all-powerful Gozer. The Ghostbusters are freed just in time for a showdown in the Big Apple, taking on the Gozerian’s chosen form-the titanic, poofy, sugary-sweet Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Co-written by Aykroyd and Ramis, Ghostbusters was originally intended to be a vehicle for Aykroyd and pal John Belushi. Belushi’s premature death in 1982 forced a change in plans, and the script was rewritten for Murray. No one knows how the original version would have turned out, but the Murray/Aykroyd/Ramis teaming, along with Weaver, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson in key roles, was a winning combination. Ghostbusters became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, and its success was heralded with toys, video games, tee shirts and Ray Parker Jr.’s #1 hit title song. In 1986, ABC debuted the long-running animated series The Real Ghostbusters, with new actors taking over the voice roles of Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston, Janine, Slimer, and the rest. Its sequel Extreme Ghostbusters (1997), video games, board games, comic books, clothing, music, slot machines, pinball machines, bobbleheads, statues, prop replicas, neon signs, ice cube trays, Minimates, coin banks Funko Pop figures, footwear, lunch boxes, breakfast cereals, and haunted attractions. The original cast was reunited in 1989 for a theatrical sequel, Ghostbusters II, another monster hit, which fared less well financially and critically. Attempts to develop a second sequel paused in 2014 following Ramis's death. A 2016 reboot, also called Ghostbusters, was released to mixed reviews and financial failure. A second sequel to the 1984 film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, was released in November 2021. A Slimer-inspired limited-edition citrus-flavored Hi-C's Ecto Cooler drink first released in 1987, was one of the more popular items, and did not cease production until 2001. The Slimer character became iconic and popular, appearing in video games, toys, cartoons, sequels, toothpaste, and juice boxes. There have also been crossover products including comic books and toys that combine the Ghostbusters with existing properties like Men in Black, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, and World Wrestling Entertainment.
Someone did their homework. Please keep up the good work!! Now if someone could explain how Egon had a family nobody knew about. (Ghostbusters: Afterlife)
Over on the official Ghostbusters channel there were several discussions under the Extreme Ghostbusters episode "The Crawler" that Egon and Janine might have gotten married after certain lines of dialogue are spoken, but since the cartoons are a different canon from the movies, and Janine actually hooked up with Louis in the movies that seems unlikely. My guess is Egon met someone at the Institute for Advanced Theoretical Research who fell for him and convinced him to have a relationship ... somehow.
I am new to this channel and I love the content, work, and editing behind it.Great job on this video and I can't wait to see more! I am subbing and this is the best content ever! 😎😁
@@ChannelingSpirits No problem! *Takes the trap* It's always amazing to see such amazing channels taking on the topic in a wonderful and fantastic way.Such an amazing channel and can't wait to see more!
I already had it in my head-cannon (thanks to Richard Edlund) that 'Poltergeist' takes place in the same universe as 'Ghostbusters', but I suppose 'Amityville' could work in too. Hmm... =)
Great video as always channeling spirits, and give Ghostbusters news a shout out his channel recommended checking you guys out and been subscribed ever since #Ghostbusters after life
Interesting if the big showdown with Gozer was on November 2nd; in the Catholic Church, that's the Feast of All Souls, when we remember and pray for all those who have died.
Officially, it only becomes autumn (or fall, for you Americans) on September 21st. Weird as it is to think, but most of September takes place in summer.
November 1st isn't Samhain. It's the eve of the 31st and the early hours of the first. For this reasoning to make sense it would need to be the day of the 31st for that night to be what you claim it to be
Unless I’m missing something, you call out the commercial as being filmed on 9-27… yet the clapperboard in the commercial footage itself shows 10-27… a month later. This would skew the flow of events as you’ve laid them out.
So how did the Sedgewick Hotel even know there was a paranormal abjurer agency out and about? They'd only just started up, and advert recognition would be spotty at best.
The hotel manager was probably desperately looking through the Pest Control section of the newspapers looking for anyone who could deal with the disturbing presence. I'm guessing that, based on the responses Janine gives over the phone, the firehouse likely wasn't the first service that was called, and that the manager was skeptical at best about the GB service being serious. As far as why they'd advertise in the Pest Control section, well, that's how they approached their business - paranormal pest control. Granted, many of the spooks, specters and ghosts they captured and eliminated were a tad more dangerous than a mere cockroach or rat infestation (though probably not by much considering the alleged caliber of New York City vermin...), but they still considered themselves to be no different from Orkin, Clark's or any other more traditional pest control company.
We will. We are working on the finishing up the Ghostbusters equipment and then will move on to case files for all our favorite ghosts. Next up is the PKE Meter.
@@ChannelingSpirits great cause I've always wanted to see if he has any backstory, cause I think there was an episode of the cartoon that focuses on him but I dont remember it
Can i know about "Ghostbusters" Group? What does it mean "someone extra wants to Join?" Is it referring to Me or a Delusional Attacker reflex and targets me to experience the "bad callings" getting the attacks statements to my hearing senses instead? How long the "Ghostbusters" existed? It ever exist or not? I have a plan of voltage removal to create a stop that its' been Ghosts that attacks Life as it is a Support to Terrorist. Then it is maybe like Ghostbusters? What does it mean Ghostbuster is Actually Female?
@@Rezzanine its really hard for me to describe how i say it cuz of my Autism but people can say it how they want to, its just the way i say it is different 😊
