You're not expecting a feminist to paint an acurate depiction of reality while she's in the process of fabricating a narrative of opression, are you? Oh my sweet summer child.
Dunno if +Harry Balzak will see this, but your post seemed to have been flagged as spam. Weren't me, guv. If that was because it contained the word m a n s p l a i n i n g though, that would be very strange indeed.
Harry Balzak I tried to restore your comment, but I guess as it wasn't me who flagged it in the first place I can't make it show again. Although your other reply has also been tagged as spam. You seem to be in some kind of RU-vid purgatory.
I'm glad ghostbusters 2016 failed. Not because it ruined my childhood or because i'm misogynistic. Not even because it's a bad movie. But because of this dirty marketing campaign.
Dan Aykroyd is insane, always has been, and he has a financial stake in the new movie. Anything he says regarding it is going to be suspect but at least in that case I think he was mostly trying to defend a co-worker he respects in a situation that he doesn't fully understand. Don't take it out on his vodka sales...it's good fucking vodka.
Yep... it had a chance, but with the combined powers of a terrible director, horrific marketing and a lot of lies and contempt for the audience, it became the disaster it is.
At pretty much all levels on the making of this film they failed. Insulting fans. Not having the same comedy style as the old movies. Not having believable characters. Shitty Scoobydoo-level CGI. Bad director or at least not fitting for this movie. The new version of the theme song doesn't represent the current generation nor does it represent the original. I could go on all day...
Ironically, I think most people who don't like Leslie Jones don't like her because her entire shtick is the racist and overdone stereotype of a loud black woman.
You drop a bad trailer. You insult genre fans in your press circuit before the film. You straight up attack James Rolfe (AVGN) for saying the movie doesn't look good, that he is against reboots of classic films, and will therefore skip it. It gets middling reviews and poor word of mouth. Yet, despite Sony Markeeting being idiots, this movie would have made them money if it just had a sane budget. Sony over spent making the movie and marketing it, that is the primary reason it failed. Not men's rights activists, not angry anti- reboot genre geeks.
@@zombified_pariah7720 Considering they've made flops like this for decades and still haven't gone out of business means it'll never happen in your lifetime.
Not to mention the original had a budget of $30 million and the remake had a budget of $144 million. Clearly that amount of money wasn't spent accordingly.
excuse me mike strider, as of the second of august 2016 jay is a man (please comment when he starts transitioning so i can edit this comment with an apology thanks)
Great video, but I wouldn't say comments that "brought up the feminism angle" qualify as anti-women. It's pretty clear based on how they spun the story, censored the comments, and slandered their critics that they were using feminism as a shield to protect the film from thoughtful criticism. Critiquing feminism isn't inherently anti-woman.
I think it sucks people who were criticizing the film got called sexist even though it wasn't even the women that were the problem I mean some of the most iconic films had badass women
This point bothered me as well. I distinctly remember looking at the comments and seeing plenty of people saying something like "Stop removing my comments, my opinion has nothing to do with feminist issues". Regardless of whether or not that was the reason comments were removed, the commenters seemed to think this was the case, and such a comment certainly qualifies as "bringing up the feminist angle" without actually taking any kind of stand for or against.
robocop, kill la kill, ghost in the shell, inuyasha, terminator, lord of the rings. All these things had some sort of female main character who play a big role to the story. Which heck, these are just the first ones to come to mind. Can't recall anyone hating on these things just due to there being women in them, that play some sort of important part to the story. If there were, they were a very very small group. For many seem to like them a fair bit going by ratings and review. Seems tv and movies have been fairy fine with showing women in not only in their shows but as major characters for a while now. So i'm not sure how this new ghostbuster movie was meant to be a big break through for women, when it has been done before, having main female characters.
I don't think that's the point they're making; instead I think what they're saying is that people associate anti-feminism with anti-women, and they're labeling the comments as anti-women because they're against the feminist slant in the film.
crazybuizel Which even with going by that line of logic and grouping them all in the anti women bit. It still only made up a small % of the comments. So the largest possible numbers and it still made up a minor number of comments. Which i think might just hurt the point people hate women more. For even with taking the large possible number, it's still a very very minor group of people.
If only Sony would let everyone talk and not call everyone a misogynist, this would've been just another forgettable remake like Total Recall and Robocop. But that is just my ppinion.
+Maintenance Renegade thankfully a lot of people on gamergate and 8chan archived their shrieks just in case they try to make another movie a "political movement"
Absolutely. However, making a his stink about sexism and racism and whateverthehell, was the only way Sony figured they could convert any publicity-to-profits from this total trash.
@@heezythecasual Sadly we seem to be in an era where you can have an opinion, but only if it's positive, unless you are supporting white men, or is against any non Caucasian human. Personally I'd fight for someone to have the rights to say their opinion even if I fully disagree with it, but that probably flag me as a rather horrible person. Kind of miss the 90s, and earlier, things were less shitty.
@@Mangaka-ml6xo I was just taking the piss, and I fully agree with you, crazy how the world is rn, I have even tried to defend some situations for women and have someone go “what do u know, ur a white man” 🤦🏻♂️
+chopperbubba what sjws? It was Sony, who are motivated by greed. they successfully created this fake Scandal or series of fake scandals to sell movie tickets, and it worked. It isn't going to work for long, of course, because as Mike said, Word of Mouth. But they got a lot more positive press about a movie that otherwise simply would have gotten press about how disappointing it was. some people want to turn everything into an sjw issue. When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a vagina.
+trekyz pretty much this gg sjws you try to inject your identity politics on everything and now people are fighting back fuck you universities and tumblr for breeding these idiots
+John Clavis Then again it could be argued it's the sjw crowd that makes it possible for greedy companies like Sony to get away with shit like this. If there weren't people ready to rabidly jump on every little controversy that pops up, Sony would've just looked like an complete idiot.
Yet this same SJW crowd Sony was pushing for DIDN'T support the film at all. The box office numbers show this as it only made 158 million worldwide as of yesterday (and it needs to make 500 million to make it's money back and profit). So these same idiots who were bashing men calling them man babies, ignoring valid criticism from James Rolfe (AVGN) then calling him a man baby, ect... NONE OF THEM SUPPORTED THE MOVIE WHEN IT WAS RELEASED. It's the same thing over and over again with that crowd. There have been games like Mirror's Edge 2 and small indie games that catered to them and their ideals and did they support the games.... NO they didn't support anything. These guys don't support anything and yet they are the ones who cried the loudest. Why do people still cater to them is beyond me.
Sony strong-armed Bill Murray with threats of litigation if he did not appear in the 2016 movie. He really doesn't want to be there. That's also why he didn't do anything in the movie beyond the bare minimum of showing up.
I'm disappointed to see you guys jump on the bandwagon with this irrational, blind dislike of a movie that's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I like Ghostbusters 2!
Ah, fair enough! I know a lot of people dislike 2, and I can see where they're coming from to an extent. But I still enjoy it, and the underground sequence alone justifies it's existence to me.
The single best video talking about this crappy movie and pointing out all of Sonys bull to make anyone who dislikes it seem like they are part of that small percentage of assholes.
I disagree on this. Most of the information they used was already covered by Midnight's Edge months ago, who also extensively listed their sources. You can expect that level of detail from a German RU-vidr. I think you would enjoy the Midnight's Edge channel. Their coverage on the Fantastic Four controversy was also very good.
Interesting thing about the statistical breakdown in this video. Is that the proportion of women haters, is actually lesser than the proportion of genuinely psychopaths we'd expect to see in a group. It is estimated that around 1% of the population are psychopaths (that doesn't mean they're serial killers). It just means they have the neurological condition psychopathy. Which means they have a very limited, if non-existent, ability to empathise.
***** There was indeed. www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36380247 50% were sent by women, 10% the gender couldn't be ascertained and 40% were sent by men. (estimate). From this article: "A 2014 study from cosmetics firm Dove found that over five million negative tweets were posted about beauty and body image. Four out of five were sent by women."
+The Pickles Space Cop a.k.a Holden M'Dickie - Melissa McCarthy Detective Ted Cooper - Jane Lynch Agnon Ahn - Leslie Jones (is that racist?) Grigg McCool - Tina Fey Officer Zorba - Kevin James Directed by Uwe Boll Screenplay by M Night Shmalbadams
***** I totally agree that it wasn't as good as the first one. But it's not a complete throw away either. It was in keeping with the time it came out in, it was funny, it kept the continuity of Ghostbusters going. And it did okay at the box office. This new movie; at soon as it attempts to become a Ghostbusters movie it,falls apart.
I watched the second one a lot as a kid as I had it recorded on video tape for some reason. I was surprised to learn how much hate GB II got. I went back and watched it a few weeks ago, I still enjoyed it.
Yeah, I'm surprised too. I watched it a bunch of times as a kid and I put it in the Wayne's World 2 category of "not as good as the original, but still pretty good".
No that's literally just the definition. You can't tell me that a metal box with 4 wheels and an engine isn't a car just because you say that's the "bullshit definition". You can be critical of specific things that specific people say, but at least from a literal standpoint, you can't be anti feminism and not anti woman at the same time.
If you have a problem with the movie, then criticize the movie. A very significant amount of the discussion surrounding this movie has nothing to do with the movie itself, and is in fact motivated by sexism. This, not criticisms of the movie itself, is what motivates people to say things like "wow people are being really sexist asshats about the new ghostbusters movie".
Everything RLM has reviewed has been funnier than the movie itself. Like they said they rarely review comedies, except when its a movie with women who should be working at Etsy.
He is actualy insane. Check out some other interviews with him. Guy is a complete conspiracy nutjob. He also believes in ghosts...i remember he said he had sex with a ghost. Crazy dude
Well, of course You say something negative about women or minorities, you're immediately given a membership to your local Klan branch That's how it works, right?
Oy vey. It was indeed us, the secret, world ruling Jews. Because Jews are relevant right? Its not like modern Judaism at this point is basically secular and is on the decline. Not at all.
Isn't Jay a Jew? I mean, his last name IS Bauman? maybe RLM is just a horrible zionist illuminaty conspiracy? I guess that might explain why mike is so phat. His neckface is bluging from all that baby-blood he drink.
I'm 35 years old, married, two kids, stable career, love all of the female cast, absolutely loved them on SNL, but the movie was god damn awful and didn't make me laugh one bit. Horrible direction and essentially minimalistic script, where feels like the director told them to "be in an alley and be funny".
The problem I have with this movie is the same problem I have with the new Rocketeer movie, the new wolverine, the new Thor, etc. Instead of creating original properties that headline women, they just take the familiar and add [INSERT CURRENT TREND HERE] to "modernize" it. Birds of Prey would be perfect for the silver screen but seeing as Warner Bros/DC made a turd of a TV show, I'll probably never get to see it.
Wait... What? It's not suprising that X-23 would take over if Logan was killed, And she in no way just appeared, she's been around for like 13 years now.
Well that's Hollywood for you. "What about an original IP about a female protagonist?" "Nah, that's never going to sell. Just take some old franchise and replace the men with women."
She has been around for 13 years...as X-23. But that name doesn't sell comics. Wolverine does. But since Disney Marvel don't own the movie rights to Logan, or Fantastic Four, X-men, or mutants, they would rather kill off or phase out characters than just give free advertising to Fox films.
+Courtney Johnson Have you ever seen Alien? Terminator? You know, cultural icons that both starred strong female characters and came out around 30 years ago?
Remember when they tried to cancel Angry Video Game Nerd for just saying he wasnt going to review it? His subs jumped by like 100,000 in a week after that nonsense. Good job, media!
“It is very good. The people are just made because they are sexist and really liked the older one. In my opinion I saw them both and I like this one better. Thanks Sony!” That comment looks like it was typed by a child, do you really think they or most people would pay attention to the studio that puts a movie out? That was utter bullshit probably typed by some Sony intern pretending to spell stuff wrong. What a horrible company.
Are you implying anti-feminism is anti-women? 80% of women in America alone are either anti-feminists or does not care about feminism. I know a lot of women who'd be offended by what you're implying.
8 лет назад
True. All the intelligent women I know that knows feminism hates feminism. They'd be offended if you say feminism = women
8 лет назад
+Kajetan Gams Actually they did. They used anti-feminism and anti-women interchangeably.
I love it when you guys make videos like this. The analytical videos like this, the Plinkett reviews, the Jack and Jill Half in the bag and others are what keeps me coming back to Red Letter Media. It's so great to see people making smart cultural critiques in a unique, entertaining way!
Honestly thank you for ending the video with Melissa McCarthy being sensible. One of many shitty things the narrative surrounding the reception of Ghostbusters 2016 caused is that it makes everyone associated with the movie out to be the same kind of radical man-hater bloggers on the internet portray themselves to be. The fact that Paul Feig totally bought into it and ran with it didn't help at all - ironically he made his "brilliant" actors look bad themselves by latching onto a misguided and incorrect narrative. Maybe the smirks on their faces were because they knew there was no movie here and that Paul Feig is a hack director. What has he even done since?
@@zombifiedpariah7392 can u please dissect with your infinite wisdom, what about her quote at the end is not sensible? i don't want to pollute your mind with my opinions but it seems like it's in direct agreement with the thesis of the video as a whole. do you disagree with the video as a whole?
@@Sora_Halomon Have you ever heard of "gaslighting"? Have you ever heard of "hypocrisy"? It doesn't take *iNFiNitE wIsdOM* to see what's wrong with that "quote", you chimp.
Jotaro Kujo I just watched the newest Spin Off Doctors with Conrad Zimmerman and Jim Sterling concerning that fuck awful film, so it's fresh in my mind. Funny enough, Jim references RedLetterMedia in that episode too. This joke was meant to happen.
Leslie Jones-"What will you tell your daughter!" I will tell my daughter not to see this sexist drama-baiting woefully unfunny cinematic train-wreck and incarnate insult to the integrity of the performing arts.
Calling people names because they don't like your film is definitely going to get people to go see your movie. Yes, act like a little child and throw a temper tantrum, and people will cave in and go see a movie that'll ruin the Ghostbusters as a whole.
It has a pretty wonderful prologue, I'll give it that. Everything prior to the Ghostbusters getting back together is hilarious. Then the movie's plot starts and it just dies
I watched it recently for the first time in years and years. I really enjoyed it. Didn't understand why it gets slagged off so much. Sure, it was never going to top the original, but it is decent.
It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen but I’m glad I watched it so I can have authentic outrage when my favorite RU-vid movie critics perform its autopsy.
Bill Murray was the only hold out over the years for a real 3rd Ghostbusters movie (even Rick Moranis was going to come back). I'm glad Bill was forced into it and is uncomfortable, because this train wreck is all due to him.
I dont understand what grounds they could have to use legal action against Bill Murray. How can they force someone to be in a movie if they dont want to?
Wow, that's awful. Most default sub moderators are absolute garbage so I guess that isn't too surprising. Remember what the /r/news mods did during the Orlando shooting? Yeah.
Hahaahah! Yep, pretty much. It's a really sad era we live in. You disagree with someone and they called you either an idiot, brainwashed or the product of incest and all that, absent any actual facts. Hurray!
Proud Anti-feminist here....and yeah, this movie was trash. And NO....being Anti-Feminist does NOT mean I'm sexist or hate women, it means I'm Anti-Feminist.
This was just a sad time for this film. People were cruel, mean, and immature towards one another, because a company didn't want to admit their movie wasn't as good as it could of been.
I'm a misogynist and for that reason I didn't enjoy the new Ghostbusters movie. If it was an all male cast with the same jokes being done, I think it would be my favorite movie of the year.
We need more Scientist Man. I mean honestly, we need more RLM in general, but dear lord do we need more Scientist Man and his rational, logical breakdowns of bullshit with the comedy stylings of his man children subjects.
***** Considering that the original Ghostbusters would have never been made were it not for his own obsessive, Aspie interest in ghosts, I wouldn't say that.
"I don't think we will ever have a formal relationship, a formal contact, with any alien species out there, especially after 9/11, when we broke our toys in the sandbox. If they were observing that, goodbye human race. I don't believe that they, (the aliens), are a mass threat, but I do believe that they're breaking the law, (when kidnapping people)".Dan Akyroyd
It is painful to see Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig being sensible at the end of the video saying what they SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE SAID during the whole damn thing. If only they did that from the beginning...
