The Fantastic Four's strongman has taken on Marvel's Hulk countless times, but who's won most? For more awesome content, check out: whatculture.com/ Follow us on Facebook at: / whatculture Catch us on Twitter: / wc_comics
"Oh, the Hulk would win ..... The Thing is faster and smarter, so he would probably find a way to turn it into a draw or save himself. He’d trap or trick the Hulk. But, in a fair fight, there’s no way the Hulk [would lose]." --Stan Lee
I have the ultimate respect for Stan Lee, but it seems you have quoted excerpts and added your own words. I would like to see the whole quote without the editing. Stan initially said the Thing and the Hulk were equally strong, but the Hulk was bigger and had an advantage. Regardless, a lot has happened since Stan stopped writing the characters.
Don't forget Hulk/Thing: Hard Knocks. Where the two of them argue over who would win in a fair fight while they sit in a bar, knocking back beers, as a ton of soldiers point guns at them. It turns into them deciding to fight for real so they can finally settle things.
@Craig Vann great line. It isn't true. I mean, dumb Hulk wasn't holding back and Grey Hulk certainly wasn't, he got whipped the first time. But it is totally a Hulk thing to say.
I love how in the worlds greatest heroes show, grimm constantly asserts he can take the hulk down, in emh, hulk is extremely vitriolic towards the thing because he thinks he’s stronger than him, bonus points for Yost working on both of them
FF #25-- Hulk beat Thing. It was Rick Jones who stopped Hulk in the next issue when Hulk was fighting both the FF and Avengers. FF #112 -- Thing never seemed about to win. FF #534-535 -- Reed wasn't involved at all. There are several fights missing from this list, as well.
I personally prefer the Thing but Hulk is more famous therefore he will always win. Thing only defeats him in comics because the Hulk is brainwashed. Also Hulk's power is limitless since he will get stronger the angrier he becomes. The Thing doesn't have this power.
That wasn't World breaker Hulk, that was World War Hulk, World Breaker is what Hulk changed into at the end of WWH. World Breaker would have killed the Thing
Great list, but you left out a few 1961 run of FF # 12 this is their real first fight 2. Marvel features #12 3. Marvel super star giant sized special 1974 #1 4. Marvel Two In One #46 5. Hulk 1970 run #’s 152 - 153 6. Marvel greatest limited series # 5 7. Marvel adventures the thing #2 8. Marvel adventures FF # 12 And for fun What if vol 1 #’s 2, 12, 29,31 and 45 Oh and I forgot marvel Two in one annual #5 And I am sure there are a few more that I left off. But needless to say probably the most hero vs hero history in comics to date
Fantastic Four 112 is one of the greatest comics ever published, and deserves so much more attention & praise than it receives. Still a high water mark in super-beings going toe to toe with one another.
There are st least 3 fights that got left off the list, they first squared up in FF before issues 25 - 26, then they hooked up again when their brains got switched in an FF annual,, then there's the time they fought in the desert in a two-in- one,and finally they found in fanfare ,so the actual times they fought each other is 13 times and looks like this 7-7-1
This certainly isn’t every time they’ve fought. I remember one where Hulk was winning and Dr. Strange intervened, one where they were just beating each other up and stopped when they needed to combine forces and at least two others where Hulk simply beat the hell out of Grimm. As a fan of both characters, I like seeing them go at it because regardless of the result, it’s always a good fight.
Why don’t they ever give The Thing the same treatment as The Hulk? Power wise. Hulk just has way to many advantages and although it’s still fun either way, it’ll just make much more sense if they got a power balance. He should have a version that’s on World Breaker Hulks level
Because it's very rare that they get to have a 1v1 match. Also Savage Hulk is not as mindless as others would like to think , he still holds back specially against someone who is not set to kill him.
You forgot Marvel Feature 11 in 1973. In that issue, the Leader and Kurgo played the two against each other for their entertainment. Kurgo cheated by adding to Thing's strength with cosmic radiation.
In their first fight ff#12 the very first thing the hulk said was arguing its like hitting a stone wall. and at the end of the Same issue hulk says wouldn't want run into thing right now wouldn't stand a chance against him. Hulk kept getting upgraded thing didn't.
In order to get a fight with these two in mcu, they would need to time travel from the doctor strange movie coming up because current mcu Hulk from endgame is completely different from avengers 1
You missed the very first one where Hulk beat up the Thing and trapped him in a tyre. Currently the Thing would stand no chance. He is massively outclassed.
Oh man how could I forget The four part limited series Hard Knocks Marvel fanfare 21 And there is one more marvel fanfare not the featured story but a short backup story but the number escapes me at this time.
What about: "Cry Monster?" You failed to cover that fight between the two. It was also featured in: Hulk On The Rampage! It was back when they made those large, specialty comic books, such as: Spiderman Vs Superman. Or have you heard of them?
It’s funny, every time they show World Breaker Hulk they never show him at his peak. A lot of people always show him when he’s in his Green Scar form(the form before he actually turns into world breaker hulk). Yes Green Scar fought sentry , the X men and everyone else. But few actually fought him when he actually reached his Insanely angry, radiation glowing, World Breaker Hulk peak, which was much more powerful than his green scar physical state . And later started destroying dimensions with World Breaker Red She Hulk in the Dark Dimension in the Heart Of The Monster comic series.
His wrestling and having backup gives him an advantage with regular mindless Hulk but he's really no match for Hulk with intelligence. Hulk/Juggernaut is more of an equal fight.
I like the one where Hulk and The Thing fight because they were bored. She-Hulk was flirting with Thing and Hulk told "stone man to leave Hulk's cousin alone". After Susan Storm separated them with a force field, Thing's answer was that they were just having "some fun while the eggheads were yakking".
The Thing was treated shabbily by Marvel. They should have had a rule that every third or fourth fight the Thing simply outfights the Hulk. Otherwise, the lesson is, whoever has the biggest muscles wins, and fighting skill means nothing. It cheapens the Thing to have him lose every time, and makes the fights uninteresting and predictable, if the Hulk wins every time. As the Thing would say, "I wuz robbed!!"
“He isn’t half as strong as” Me: I’m gonna have to stop you right there, Grey hulk is stronger than Normal hulk in base form, But he can’t get stronger
That’s not quite right. Maybe you’re thinking of Professor Hulk? Fixit still got stronger when he got madder, and Doctor Doom even discusses it during that same story. Grey Hulk just starts from a lower power base and so can’t get strong enough fast enough to overcome the Thing.
Very good material man, but You forget one, there is a story where the thing and Hulk we're transported by the líder and other alien villian, first fought each other and finally they team up yo fight a robot in the desert
The alien was an FF villain Kurgo. I thought how desperately stupid Kurgo would've had to be to think his robot had any chance against those two! If he thought the robot was that good he should've used it to begin with. So much for this 'superior' alien intellect. Little wonder you don't remember that loser's name😁
If you went by the way this guy covered these fights it would seem the the thing is superior and the hulk just would win by chance, surprise,or diversion Doesn’t make sense, because the hulk is stronger and faster especially when he gets angrier.
