What Happened to all the Demons in Inu Yasha? InuYasha Anime Theory - The Fangirl 

You know for some reason, I'm imagining Sesshomaru owning some large Japanese business, being a CEO or something.

I'd say the tenseiga--the power to defeat your enemies is fascinating, yes, but that's not gonna help your buddies who've died and could use an HP restoration potion like 10 minutes ago.

I grew up with the anime and got into the manga, but I was surprised that Kagome never tried to find out what happened to Inuyasha and their friends in her time. Are Inuyasha and Shippo still alive in modern Japan? Does Miroku and Sango’s bloodline still exist? What happened to Sesshomaru, Jaken, and Koga?

It would have been hilarious if shishomaro turned up in Kagome's modern day Japan and when asked about how he got there he said I came the long way.

I think the Tensaiga is a much more interesting sword, because technically, any sword can take a life, if the fighter is a good enough sword fighter, but a sword that can bring back to life is a much more interesting item both strategically and naratively

You forgot about seshomaru mom , in that episode they show a castle in the sky or some like that that’s another way they can hide from humans

My theory is Humans got tired of living in fear of Demons world-wide and with new technology and weaponry they started hunting Demons to near extinction, like the Salem Witch Trials, and Demons wisely went into hiding. It was Kagome going back in time that sent out a spiritual beacon, resulting in some Modern Demons like the Noh Mask to re-awaken and attempt to re-assert control. I'm actually doing something similar with my own story I'm writing called Blue Shogun.

It's been so long since I have watched the series that I can't comment on the swords, but I think you are mostly spot on about it being a combination of things. If we look at the lore in other animes, such as Wolf Children or Pom Poko, the stronger demons integrate with society (and have children with humans), while the rest kind of just stay in the shadows or wilds. Even Nurarihyon No Mago, the demons strong enough take human form and live like humans in the public eye. I think with how much this is shown in anime, that Japanese culture in general assumes this. Also, so many hugs over your beloved pup!

I’m really sorry about your dog. On a note related to your video the biggest clue that I noticed in the show is how Sesshomaru states numerous times how he wants to create a great kingdom of demons which may have ended up being another plane in general. Also in an earlier episode Jaken says how he’s traveled many worlds with Sesshomaru. It’s quite possible they just decided to move worlds in general.

Tenseiga. Consider its complete list of powers: - Protection barrier/teleporter. Like the egg in Chrono Cross, makes a barrier to defend its owner and teleports them to safety if they are in mortal danger. Basically, limited immortality. - Reviving lives (once). Even with its limitations, the power of healing is awesome, and in the vents where you have to use it, invaluable. - Undead Bane. The sword cannot kill the living (Medeo aside), but can absolutely kill netherworld creatures AND zombies (such as the father of the rival demon clan.)- Netherworld protection. The sword allows one to pass the gateway to the underworld, and seems to prevent the person from dying while there, or their soul being trapped there. - The Medeo - power to slash creating portals to the underworld, dragging those struck there with it. - Still a sword - while not killing, its blade can still clash and parry with other swords, meaning you can still fight with it, you just can't KILL with it. So you have two forms of protection (barrier/teleport and netherworld), a semi-heal/revive from death, and the power to kill the undead/netherworld lives as well as the living through the netherworld portal generating Medeo, while still being able to clash against actual swords and other weapons. It literally has everything. Even in its base, unmastered form, it has the barrier/teleport and is still a sword. Those are its BASE powers, without any mastery at all. . Also...I'm really sorry about your loss. :( Life is....life. Fleeting, but beautiful...

I know its only fiction and that a certain suspension of disbelief is required but....I really think they should have spent some time in canon explaining why demons went from being over-saturated to being all but extinct. But then who asked me? No one, of-course.

I would say that your explanation of them going to "spirit world" makes the most sense. The series YuYu Hakusho explains it that way on season 4 in regards to the demons in that series

I always thought both swords balanced each other out. In a way they are the perfect weapons for a peaceful god. One blade to destroy their enemy and a another blade to give them life as a sign of mercy.

I don't know what sword I'd pick because the Tenseiga has the power to revive 100 lives with a single stroke & the Tetseiga was forged to protect by destroying 100 with a single stroke. Also if you ask me it's okay to cry in front of people every now & then, also I promise I will hug my Dog & 3 cats for you & tell & show how much I love & cherish them & how close to my heart they are, I'll do that for you & everyone else who has lost a pet, because I even lost pets & human family members before & everytime that happened it was like a hole was placed in my heart that even today has never been placed, because nothing can truly take there place ever, because that's how close to your heart they will always be. I heard someone once say that scars & wounds on the surface of your skin will heal & go over time, but the scars & wounds of your heart will never truly go away, but they can make us stronger in a person both physically & emotionally, then we currently are now overtime. Now I don't know if that's true or if anyone believes it, but I think it's true & I believe it.

There are alot of stories around the world where even the ungly demons would go out and steal women as there mates or compel them to be there bride even make a contract where if a deal wasn't paid they would forfeit their hand these are only a couple of stories known around the world so even if it was possible it wouldn't be many and I'm sure once the locals and Hero's of their era found out they were slain Fangirl definitely larger theory on the spirit world I totally agree with that one I also like the one about the demon hierarchy blending in with human beings

Tetsaiga because it has different abilities and for the tensaiga it can only bring back a dead person once but not again.

if the tensaga still has the portal opening to hell powers then Id say its better, it seems very grim reaper. You can send people to hell and bring back the dead if you want. Almost like a god. Very interesting idea.

For a possible answer about what happened to the demons I refer you to another anime called kurasame kiss watch that one if you haven't already and that gives a example of Over Yonder maybe that's what happened to the same thing in the demons in InuYasha as world and of course tensiga better than the tenseiga but then the tenseiga also has its uses

To be fair, he didn’t know he was going to marry her when he told her she should change her name. And she did have the same name as the one demon that if I’m remember correctly wanted to eat him.

First time I watched InuYasha and Naraku was gone, hiding inside a spiritual barrier from a certain mount, at first I wondered if he hadn't in fact, found a way to access the Well and was hiding in the future. This would be a hell of an arc, possibly "final act" material. Naraku attracted for all the ressentment Houjou have for Kagome never corresponding his love, and making him his ultimate vessel. And with a much larger population, and consequent negative feelings to feed him and other youkais, Modern Japan would make Naraku even stronger.

Given my preference tawords being a healer and support in games I'd probably use tenseiga it's the perfect weapon for a healer. Also if I remember there are still demons in kagomés time period like that mask and a certain sword also I remember a friend of mine once made their own fan story linking inuyashas world with the world of berserk and oh man that...yeah that was interesting.

I loved inyashua it’s my favorite anime. As for the better sword. Tensiga may be cool and have cool abilities only problem is most of the time you have to kill powerful demons (as is the case with the adamant barrage) and some ability become completely useless (red tensiga ability to break any barriers was countered by nurakus stronger barrier and thier was one demon that nurakus kid (can’t remember his name) killed that had stronger armor.) not to mention it’s a heavy weapon if you or a relative don’t put one of your teeth into making it. Also it doesn’t work in the present time so yeah... The tensaga on the other hand is easier to wield can save the life’s of people. (Granted once) allows you to go to the spirt world, and if your trained well enough you can make gates to the spirt world to send your enemy’s in like it’s a black hole. Also I can’t remember the third one from one of the movies the one that could raise 100 men from the dead. That sword was kinda cool in design and ability.

Yeah! What happened to all of the demon genres in anime? I fell in love with YuYu Hakusho, and Inuyasha, which were both demon genres. These shows made demons cool, and mmI loved how they explored demon lore and hell. In YuYu Hakusho the human world and demon world are separate. Watch YuYu Hakusho. A spiritual barrier prevents the human world and Demon World from merging, but in the Yu Yu Hakusho movie, and one episode, the Demon World and human world run the risk of merging again, and humans are at risk of demons roaming the Earth again the way they did in ancient times. The same basic logic applies for all Demon Lore animes. The human world and Demon World, or the human world in spirit world are separate, but were once merged during ancient times allowing demons to walk among humans. I love demon lore in anime. If you love demon lore, watch YuYu Hakusho.

They were both powerful, and could help carry a story, but in completely different ways. The Tenseiga could resurrect the dead, heal the wounded, and kill beings that were not from the world of the living, such as spirits, hellhounds, the undead, and other creatures that were native to the Netherworld. But in a regular battle, it was useless as it couldn’t kill the living. Whereas the Tetsusaiga had the power to slay 100 demons in one swing, and it also had the ability to keep getting stronger by absorbing power from strong demons. One helped tell the story of Inuyasha, the other could’ve been used to tell a story more like The Rising of the Shield Hero. Also, Adamant Barrage fired a barrage of diamond shrapnel that they easily could’ve gotten rich off of. Why didn’t they ever take advantage of that?!? At the very least they should’ve collected the diamonds after the battles!

I always figured the stronger and smarter demons blended in with humans. Because the demons are there in kagomes world/time. So I just think with technology and what not growing it became harder for demons and they realized survival and power now meant blending in with humans. So much so they became myth and legend.

My family instilled a love of animals going back to my great grandparents on my mother's side. I feel your loss and the pain that has come with it. Reaction to title: oh my gosh this has always been something that I wondered Tetsusaiga v Tenseiga prompt: well in this day an age a normal killing sword isn’t that useful but there are alway people dying that you can save, so tenseiga now tetsusaiga when fighting was important I like the theory with the demons blending into normal society. With the religious figures picking off the demons with more demonic features, it’s possible that the surviving ones became so human like with natural selection, that nobody can tell the difference between humans and demons in the modern era. Maybe some demons don’t even know what they are and that’s where birth defects come from in the modern era. Really loved this video. Me personally I believe with the age of technology coming into effect. The Humans gained more power, and there for started to hunt down the demons out of fear, or that age old human thought process "Kill them they are different". Unlike the tech that Sango and her village had a new age of demon hunters probably emerged. Once the demons were all gone... then the need for demon slayers deceased. I also believe that some demons can time travel like Inu yasha... so some may have survived like you suggested, and just blended in with normal society, while the majority died. Good video really gets you to thinking.

Tenseiga for sure. not just b/c of it's abilities, but the story behind it. InuTaisho's reasons for giving it to Sesshomaru, Sesshomaru using it and exploring who he is more, was all really interesting to me.

Actually a woman could cuddle up to that “ugly demon” throughout history we see one of those rare women pop up and get with a deformed man. Beauty and the beast is based on a true story minus the magic. She fell for a hairy man. They had kids. Their kids were paid and paraded around as entertainment because they were so unusual.

I wonder why Inuyasha couldn't use the adamant barrage in kagome's era

In my theory, maybe demons in inuyasha decide to go into other dimensions where only them lives and left the world for mortals.

I don't think ever thought of that before. So, I think that both working together would be a very powerful situation.

I feel like it could be the several reasons tied up together option. Even in the InuYasha's era, majority of people hate/are scared of yookais. It seems like humans were the "ants" of the yookai world: way weaker than them, life span way shorter. But maybe humans correspondingly also reproduced way faster and worked together on societies, so they just naturally overran yookais? So, due to humans in general not wanting to connect with yookais and simultaneously having more offspring than them, just left no space for yookais in the ecosystem? No matter how many humans some yookais destroyed, they would always have more manpower. As a result, some breeds of yookais just went extinct due to not able to adjust as fast as humans who had shorter lifespan, some very few mixed with humans and the rest might just found another dimension that was more suitable for them?

Maybe it's like how it is in Yu Yu Hakusho where most of the demons now live in a separate dimension. In Yu Yu Hakusho, there is the Human World and the Demon World. In modern times a barrier separates the two, but in the past, (like in feudal times), that barrier did not exist, so demons were able to freely enter the human world and the two races would come into conflict with each other, much like in Inuyasha. At some point between the past and modern era, the barrier between the Human World and Demon World was created to separate the two. Perhaps a similar event happened in the Inuyasha universe where the demons eventually all somehow got sealed away in a separate dimension where would be able to continue existing in peace without fear of conflict with humans.

About the "Spirit World" accesed by the Black Pearl: This is actually an example of a material version of the _"Afterlife Antechamber"_ : tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AfterlifeAntechamber It is implied in the tv show that the ACTUAL "afterlife" [either "Heaven" for Humans or "Hell" for demons] it is located in a universe with different set laws of physics [the most important one is that atoms or other forms of matter simply can not exist]. Souls, ghosts and other _ethereal_ entities can travel to and from it (like the _components_ of Kikyō´s soul, back as Kagome). -> Any "portal" going directly into the afterlife acts like an _Event Horizon_ for any lifeform.

i think what happened to all the demon are, the lesser demon (those attracted and joined as Naraku) are all died in the final arc along with naraku, but those demon whose are wise or kind or even sealed, are still exist and just stay hidden from human sight and just become myth for human, the demon i said was like the ear demon where naraku ask for information of the last jewel shard, or demon of poison who help restore hiraikotsu

I know it’s been a while but what if people with the demon genes started families and if they have more demon genes then I’d guess there would be a return of half demons and what not

The first book in the Outlander series came out in June 1991. The first chapter of Inuyasha came out in the November issue of the Shonen Sunday in 1996. Just thought I'd mention it XD Also, I think Tenseiga is a better sword just because it can bring people back to life.

After watching your video, to answer your question I think the Tenseiga is more useful, mainly because as the demons go extinct or go into hiding, the Tetsaiga loses its usefulness. You can't kill a hundred demons in one blow if there are no demons to kill. The Tensaiga can still be used to heal/bring someone back from death, from many different and dangerous situations.

Koga's clan would have a particular problem, as there are no longer any wolves in Japan for them to hide among. The last Japanese wolf officially died in 1936 (though there are people who claim to see them even to this day.)

Regarding the off-topic warning at the end: last spring I might have saved a boy's life. I'm no botanist, but I am interested in plants and as a Chemist, I'm also interested in poisons. Thus, I was surprised to find out (by testing out an app for identifying plants) that my favorite park had the majority of Europes top 20 most poisonous plants. Half of them were growing by chance, the others planted on purpose. Sometime later, I noticed a father and his kid in the park. What drew my attention to them was that the kid was a brat that didn't listen and went off the path, plucked plants in a well-groomed garden, etc. The father let it slide and I didn't want to start an argument about how to raise a child, but then I noticed him playing with Hemlock. I then had enough and went to the father and asked him, if he knew what his kid was playing with. As he didn't, I asked him, if he knew that there are some of the most poisonous plants of Europe in this garden and his son is currently playing with one of them. That got his attention and what really annoyed me was that he was utterly surprised by the fact. He in all seriousness expected that no one would plant such dangerous flora in a place accessible to children and even less so without adding a fence, or at least a warning label. I then told him that this was a weed here, but other plants were planted on purpose. I even gave him a brief tour of the poison plants I was aware of... TBH, I think the chances are slim that the boy would have died, even if he licked his hands. However, some other plants can cause blisters on your skin (like that giant hogweed that grows everywhere as a weed) or bad allergic reactions. Plus, some bugs and caterpillars are dangerous too. PS: some of the other plants I remember growing there: wolfbane, digitalis, datura, ricinus, angels trumpet, deadly nightshade, arum, yew, oleander, crocus, henbane. Also, yes, it was a botanical garden. PPS: the garden had actually 4 identical-looking plants, of which one was hemlock, one was a wild variant of carrot, and one yarrow/bloodward (the other I forgot, but it was an endangered species growing next to water).

I LIKE THE POWER! Tetsiga. Tetsighah? Whatever I can’t spell. But I feel like having sesshomerus sword and just bringing your loved ones back to life won’t teach you to accept that people have to die some day.

the demons could of somewhat killed eachother off. Toga did fight hyoga who came across from china, so It's possible demons from multiple other places outside of Japan started fighting against eachother resulting in dwindling numbers.

My theory, before going any further into this episode, is the good ol' Survival of the Fittest theory. Most true higher-level demons could assume humanoid cloaks and I can only guess that, as time went on and they learned to cloak their demonic forms/characteristics. I wonder if a 'demon witch hunt' happened as men got smarter about war tactics/defense in general. Maybe Kagome's and Miroku's descendants moved away from the village and dealt with notable demonic threats they encountered/where beseeched to assist with. Also, InuYasha, Seshoumaru, and Koga would have different reasons to keep 'demonic rabble' in check, but lived on for hundreds or even THOUDANDS of yrs, had heirs, and kept lower level demons from becoming too much of a plague, while dealing with higher level demons who were a real danger, i.e. InuYasha (protecting humans), Fluffy-sama (guarding his lands and protecting Rin and her descendants, which I'm MORE than sure included Kaede's Village), and Koga (protecting his pack, land(s), Kagome's descendants--also including Kaede's Village). I also wonder if hanyous eventually either bred their demonic power out through generations of mixed breeding (hanyou x demon/hanyou x hanyou/hanyou x human) or, if like some mixed breeds, couldn't 'pollenate the flower'. In the end, idk. 🤷 Just my random thoughts...on to the video. 👍

I think what happened is similar to the whole Pure-Blood thing in Harry Potter. Over time the demon's who hated humans eventually lost out to the ones who were compassionate to them and were either killed off or died out while the others bred with humans and eventually the bloodlines became so diluted the demons basically went extinct with the few who are still alive were probably able to blend in with normal humans and choose not to cause trouble.

I believe that the demons were also sealed away by monks or priests. In one episode about a mask in Kagome time. The mask demon was in a box with magical seals around it. There could be a possibility that demons are still lingering in Kagome time. They just stay in the shadows and waited to find a perfect prey that dont attract priests or monks. I dont know. That's what I think when I heard about demons.

tenseiga cause the ability to kill is common. the ability to bring someone back to life is rare. and with regard to the topic of the video, i always thought it would have been kool if at least once during a time when inuyasha and kagome were in the future time period if they would have come across Sesshoumaru and worked together to do sumthing. not sure how long demons live to be able to say of Sesshoumaru would have even still been alive or not but it was a kool idea IMO
