Benny Hill was a prominent figure in British culture for nearly four decades. His show proved to be one of the great success stories of television comedy and was among the most-watched programs in the world.
Hearing about Benny's later years and untimely demise gets me teared up every time. 😪 All he wanted to do was make others happy, and his story deserved a happier ending than that.
From Australia here. I am fifty, and have fond memories of watching the Benny Hill show with my family. Mum didn’t approve, but this, Dave Allen, the Goons, and the Marx Brothers were the few things that would cause dad to laugh out loud. Dad was an outwardly serious man, but he had a wicked sense of humour, when he chose to share it. Thanks for the memories.
In an industry where digging up dirt on beloved icons with the righteous intent of knocking them down a notch is a cottage industry in itself, it's a miracle Hill had survived with his reputation intact.
@@iwasanangryyoungman He wouldn't even get his show off the ground in this day and age and he'd be attacked by the modern toxic feminazis, they'd ruin him for sport.
I'm 63 and Benny Hill was a mainstay of comedy throughout my childhood and into adulthood. Known for his saucy sketches, I don't believe he ever went too far. What a sad ending for a man who brought laughter to the lives of so many people. Rest in peace, Benny.
I'm a 50 years old American woman, and I grew up in Chicago as a die-hard fan of Benny Hill. I was young and impressionable and no doubt had no business watching his shows and loving his comedic antics, still though, I'm proud to say that I lived during a time when he shared his artistry with the world. You were loved Mr. Hill, and your legacy will live on. Thank you for the many years of joy and laughter you gifted me. I know your birth place of Southampton is still proud to call you their own. Strangely enough, I'm a long time supporter of the musical artist Craig David, who too was born and raised in Southampton England.🙂🇺🇲❤🇬🇧
I grew up on Benny Hill. My mother and I would laugh and laugh and laugh. Thanks for giving me some of the fondest memories a boy could have with his mother.
Same here. What a good belly laugh our family got every show. I loved his side kick Slap Head 😂 and all the saucy shenanigans that had me in stitches. Dear old Benny, thanks for all the memories and the laughs.
Me too! I remember watching Benny Hill when I was a kid with my dad. He didn't care about the adult humor on the show. Now, as an adult, I am very thankful to my dad for allowing me to watch that show. Those were happy times in my life.
@@jonathanclarke281 Ha! Can't give you a thumbs up, but my mom thought it was really dirty when I was about 11 or 12 yrs old., around 1980. I was sneaking out of bed to watch Benny at 10:30 p.m.!! Years later my p's loved watching Benny reruns........ around 10 or so years ago.
I remember when I heard of his passing. What a sad day that was; I felt like I personally knew him from watching his programs (on COVID-19 lockdown in Vancouver, BC CANADA).
I'll always love Benny Hill! As a woman, I can honestly say that his humor was never offensive, at least not to people who actually have a sense of humor. He was a wonderful comedian and, as this short video demonstrates, also a wonderfully kind person. He shall always be missed.
A woman, is without question... The Most BEAUTIFUL singularity that exists. Benny, pointed that out. If that IS what PISSES You off, Your Problem!! NOT MINE! YES... It was Slap stick Humor... But, STILL, the singularity, that inspired; songs, Paintings, poetry, And ALL MUSIC!
As a woman his comedic style was absolutely offensive, that's why it was so good. Shock and awe, just like all the greats. Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, Sam Kinnison, etc....
He was very honest and kind. People who push morality on us these days are neither honest nor kind. I have never seen more angry, loveless, and disturbed people.
A human with a brain. He refused to use money to show off in posh cars, VIP villas and expensive clothes. He however enriched humanity with a timeless value: he made us happy, for ever will. Long live the king of comedy!
If he had a brain, he would had spent his money and had the bypass surgery. There are people who had heart bypass surgery who lived well into their 70's and 80's and die of natural causes. Instead he was too misery to spend not even 2% of his wealth to save his own life.
You only need so much in life , everything else is excess .Does not matter who you are there is still only 24 hrs in a day 7 days a week 365 days on a year .Most people will struggle to see past 80/85 .Money brings financial stability ,but not happiness
I truly enjoyed his show in the 80s. His main joy in life seemed to have been entertaining and making people laugh. We are blessed to have them in our lives.
Yes it was , my entire family absolutely loved watching his show as it would leave us all in a happy mood before going to bed. What a sad & lonely man he ended up being. I hope they caught those evil grave robbers and put them behind bars in solitary for life. Disgusting behaviour especially how he had not long been buried!!!
I'm British & proud, I met Benny on the tube when I was in London, he was the most normal man considering his TV status, RIP lovely, a loss to the world.
Same here we didn't have many channels. Grow up in rural Ireland but I remember rte broadcasting benny hill, his comedy and humor was ahead off his generation .RIP
Growing up we had 4 major channels (CBS, NBC, ABC, Education Channel) & occas if you held the rabbit ears just right. One could get channel 25, & 43. I loved watching the Benny Hill show!
My family and all my friends watched Benny's show and we would laugh and talk about the previous night's show. Thank you Benny for all the joy you gave us. 😄😂🤣 ❤
During the 1960s, when performing at the Pavillion Theatre, Ramsgate, Benny Hill stayed at my parents' guest house. I remember him well. He even once read me a story. He was a lovely, kind man. I loved his humour, and yes, his television shows. Harmless fun. RIP Benny!
Benny Hill and the old bald man (jack wright) that he acted with made me and the family laugh so hard when watching his shows....Laughter the best medicine. Thank you Benny and Jack x
@@almklit A typically British take on sex. To many of us from an older generation, sex is just a bit of fun. Benny Hill was as you observe pointing out how silly most men become at the sight of an attractive female, especially those in various stages of undress. The girls in his shows weren't victims of sexual exploitation. They had a ball poking fun at the sheer daftness of men, which Benny's take got totally correct.
I'm from Spain and remember at very young age watching the Benny Hill show, Benny talking in spanish of course, lol, me and my dad waiting the show to start...wonderful times...
I grew up to these shows they were the only thing in my young life worth it at that time. Benny Hill, Monty Python, and Mash. Thank you for making me happy as a child when I truly needed it.
I loved Benny Hill, and I loved the ladies on his shows. His comedy was never offensive to me. To the two women who rejected his proposal of marriage, that was your loss. Thank you Benny Hill. RIP my friend.
@@christineperez7562... Lol... And in your short response prove what's wrong with things today.... No one said anything about a woman not being allowed to say no..... Good grief it sure gets old!!!
My Aunt wrote to him asking him to marry her, apparently he got quite a few letters like that. She was a teenager at the time and engaged 6 times in 2 years to different men, including my Uncle.
I remember watching Benny Hill with my Dad when I was a kid. I never saw my Dad laugh as much as when he was watching his shows. Thank you Benny Hill for that.🙏
No word can describe the joy of watching Benny Hill on TV as a curious, mischievous kid, growing up in the 80s in Lagos, NG. This shows how far he brought joy to the world. His sense of humor is indeed out of this universe. It is bar none. His memory will forever remain evergreen.
@@bengarcia6379 I'm guessing you ment Dave Chappelle? My and my wife's white asses watched his show every time it came on. I didn't find anything offensive, what's your point? Matter of fact I recently bought the DVD's so I could enjoy it again.
Benny Hill Show was very popular in Poland when i was young, whole family watched. Will never forget his crazy chases with "Benny Hill" music... so much fun
Though he was treated at Southampton Hospital for severe skirt burns around his upper body several times. Also, he was once maced by a nun for wearing mirror-toed boots.
Benny was known throughout hampton hill and teddington . He was often seen in one local pub, the windmill. And when Big Ben was partying at the Windmill, every body there drank with him. What a wonderful guy. I for one, miss him terribly.
I remember watching the un censored version of the Benny hill show at the age of 7 years old, it would come on after midnight when my parents would go to sleep.. lol!! I realize now why I love women in miniskirts.. thanks Benny your the best!
He was a very rare talent. He made millions of people around the world laugh. With so much hate and destruction in the world Benny Hill’s comedy was a little escape from reality. Thank you Mr Hill for giving me a little bit of joy in my life! May you forever Rest In Peace.
His comedy got me through surgery when I was 13 years old. I was a Benny Hill fan after that....and still am! I wish I could have told him that! Rest easy Benny, you are making the angels laugh now! :)
@@shamteal8614 Times do change, and you just can't keep on doing the same thing for ever and ever, but those idiots from the tv should have gave him a huge farewell show and thank him for al his work. But no, not even a tap on the shoulder, just a anouncement that his show won't be continued and that was it, so very unrespectable and low, and that killed him.
@@shamteal8614 , comedy changed greatly and he got canned. He got paid, right, but he wanted a pat on the back? He was damned insecure. There is obviously more to the story than what was given to us. Money can't buy you love Brothers and Sisters.
He was an absolute comic genius, still makes me scream with laughter, eyes tearing. I've introduced so many younger people to Benny's skits. He was timeless and I still miss him, thinking how tragic it is that he elected to not have that surgery.
It's not something you'd want to go through. Back then it was a 50-50 chance you'd survive it. They have to split open your chest and ribs and you are left with an ugly scar up your entire torso.
I absolutely loved the Benny Hill Show over here in America. I grew up watching it at night as a kid. Him and the Three Stooges made me laugh hysterically!!! Thanks Mr. Hill for the many good laughs!!!! Rest in peace.
I had a little black and white tv in my room and would hide it under the covers to watch his show late at night... his father was on his show also.. they should have played his famous music when he was chased by all the girls... so classic .. Rest in peace Benny Hill you were one of the classics.. never copied or replaced.
@@keltar4071, what's up bro. I grew up in Detroit,MI. And the Three Stooges came on first. Around 11pm. Then The Benny Hill Show came on afterwards. Maybe around 11:30 or Midnight. That was in the early 80's. They don't make um like them any more!
Cancelling his show is what killed him. ...me and my best friend would stay up late every time the benny hill show came on..in the early 80s. ..it was our favorite TV show to watch. ..miss them.
I had to sneak into the living room and watch benny Hill when I was teenager,, got caught by mom,,convinced her to watch it and she was hooked watched it every friday night when it came on,,,I miss those fun times.
I LOVED Benny Hill, it hurts my heart to learn that his final days on earth was filled with people who didn’t bring joy to his life, the way he did to the world!!!!!
I remember my brother and i would sneek into my grandfathers room on the weekend late at night just to watch The Benny Hill Show. We got caught a couple of times but its the memories that will stay with us forever!! RIP BENNY HILL
Timeless. Loved it as a kid. Appreciate him even more now as a middle-aged man. Among the videos at Charlie Chaplin's estate in Veyvey, Switzerland was a rather large collection of Benny Hill videos. I think that says it all.
Growing up as a kid in the 80's, everyone loved roaring with laughter, watching Benny Hill on TV. Robin Williams and Benny Hill were without doubt, 2 of the funniest, most loved people the world has ever known and may their souls rest in peace for ever more, for the tremendous joy they gave to all of us. We have no doubt, they would have everyone in stitches of laughter, up there in heaven!
I watched Benny Hill as a child in the 80's and I loved him. That show was like nothing I'dever seen before, or since and this was a nice little tribute to him.
How many people did this guy make laugh over the years! It"s nice to see a sensitive review of his life. He is missed and remembered. Thanks for the laughs - From California
I loved Benny Hill so much. We watched his shows as young kids and I'll still watch him now, even though I'm in my 50s. His comedy never gets old. Same with the Carry On films, my brother and I loved them and of course it wasn't till we grew up that we got all the saucy jokes, but comedy then was...really genuine somehow
Benny Hill was a comedy genius, bringing tons of laughter while serving us his boyish wicked grin. Everyone that was on the show made it very special there will never be another, R.I.P.
@@jefferytatro2244 Saturday Night Live used to be funny. Then they decided to become political. Not worth wathing for a long time. I miss the Church Lady.
