I think Rap in some form would have still been an 'American thing' - with the influence of James Brown & the funk scene , the last poets' , 'Gil Scott Heron ' ,king Tim ....
@@andchat6241 There was no jump to rap from James Brown or Gil Scott Heron. People confuse sampling of James Brown to the actual creation of rap. A totally different thing.
Great documentary thanks for uploading love Dillinger favourite album was Cornbread great tracks on there youthman thank you Jah dread no warrior cornbread this album i always love best one for me one off the reggae greats he is for sure blessed 🦁👍❤

Love, Honor and Respect to Dillinger one of the greatest Toasting Deejays in Dancehall. Yes, Cocaine in my Brain is a masterpiece and nothing but pure genius.
U-Roy, I-Roy, Big Youth, Dennis Alcapone, Trinity, Dillinger, and Prince Jazzbo - the legendary sound system oracles of Dancehall reggae and pioneers of toasting and deejay culture. Keep the Ethiopian flag flying. One love
Thank you so much for sharing this info on one of my favorite Reggae chanters, Ranking Dillinger. I truly love his albums: CB 200, Bionic Dread, Top Ranking Dillinger and Cornbread.
I've been waiting a long time for this video. Great job! Really enjoy it. Dillinger was one of the first dance halls, DJ I got into. I love his wild character in Rockers. Can you please do a video on Eral Zero in the future. Thank you.
Dillinger will always be one of my favorite DJ's. I would love for you to do a video about Scotty. As far as early 70s DJ's his style was amazing...but he didn't last long and I have no idea why. The few releases he has were really good.
@Gnosis639....Yes. I had heard a few Scotty tunes back in the days, though I can hardly remember any of them for lack of airplay and unavailable record stock. I won't mind if @Reggae Appreciation Society helps us revisit them... Another fine but obscure early U-Roy-inspired DJ was Winston Scotland. I believe he has a track on RU-vid... Check him out...👍
The first time I heard both Dillinger and Scotty was back in the early 90's. I made an LP exchange with one of my friends, whom coincidentally, I spoke to today. I switched Red Rose For Gregory in exchange for Rewind The Dj's. I was so interested in the DJ style.
Astute analysis bredrin in citing Big Youth as an influence on Dillinger. Jah Youth also influenced others like Prince Jazzbo. My toasters are Big Youth, U Roy, Dr. Alimantado, Dillinger, Brigadier Jerry and Prince Jazzbo. You cannot go wrong with those superstars.
Give thanks again my brother….another brilliant video, top ranking Dillinger in his red gold and green suit one of my favourite albums of all times, due to the basic principles and morals laws of his Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie, the wicked conception, Selassies correction cramp and burn out all Babylon, tell you about the sound as I would say, sona Nona sona nona wanna every day, each and every day you can hear the people say, say dat the table gwine turn one day and the wicked ones must get pay, track 1)🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not many people know that Dillinger and Trinity are relatives, and that Trinity and Clint Eastwood are brothers…Trinity is gone now, but Dillinger is still here…both are two of my favs…still listen to what I deem are their best recordings…never liked “Cocaine in my Brain” despite its wittiness…to me it was a departure from his RASTAFARIAN tunes…it is unfortunate that he, as so many others, got caught up in the addictions of the world…” Go before us JAH go before us and do thy work thyself…A so the dread flash him locks and the lightening clap and the weak heart drop…” I think had he continued recordings as such he would have been in the galaxy of Marley…
CB 200 was the very first Dillinger release, I bought back in the early 80s on cassette tape. Cocaine in my Brain was the highlight among a set of brilliant tunes. Though the singles Bionic Dread, Dub Organizer (the revised version) and Marijuana in my Brain had been my early introductions on AM radio stations broadcasted from neighboring Nigeria..What a superb DJ 👍
Dillinger said that he heard much of the lyrics for 'CoKane' e.g. '' Knife a fork ,Bottle & a cork...that's the way we spell New York" etc from a chant from some American tourists he met in JA - adding at the time he had no experience or knowledge of Cocaine ...
Didn't he live in the Netherlands for a while around the Marijuana in my brain album? At least I heard so and he mentions Haarlem and Holland in the track 🙂
@@nochtanseenspecht Yes that was that night! Dillinger was unrespectfully treated in my opinion, as the crowd only wanted Don Carlos. But he also wasn't exactly sober as I recall. And the guy from the audience did quite well btw 😁
