If you enjoyed this, you might be interested in my newest Fable project. I wanted to compile all my ideas for Fable IV into one video in which I try my best to apply them properly to an actual game. Think of it as a game design document in video form for Fable 4. I worked really hard on it and I'm certain if this video was your cup of tea, this next one will be too! Think of it as the sequel, cheers guys ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jr1Pe1fEggg.html

@@nomo2746 All the fable games are technically " On Rails" or "linear" and i would disagree that fable 2 is more streamlined than TLC in fact objectively it is the opposite. Fable 2 just has more content overall, better writing, more gameplay mechanics outside of combat, and a more explorable environment. TLC had a problem with blatantly overpowered or weak/useless abilities, trivial gameplay, an overly linear environment, and very basic non combat gameplay mechanics all of which they refined and expanded on in fable 2. I love TLC one of my most nostalgic games and i still play it to this day but fable 2 is overall a much better game.

The ending of Fable 3 is supposed to hit you in the gut. A young man/woman chasing to take down someone who they think is evil without knowing all the facts. You (the character) rush yourself into this situation, by storming head on, by not thinking, by assuming you know everything. It shows the grey areas of politics, not every choice is black and white, not every choice is either evil or good. You've dug yourself a hole by being an idiot, so to get out of it you're going to have to work extremely hard.
@momokosum
@momokosum 5 лет назад
So weird people complain about that.. It's exaclty why, in my opinion, it was a really great ending! It's change from the classic/previsible " you are the good guy who beat the bad one in a final battle and all's well that ends well".
@TulilaSalome

it would have been great if it had not been f/d up. 1. if you fail to gather enough money, there are no consequences. 2. If you do the sensible thing, be nice, but gather as much personal property as you to then donate to the treasury, the game does not allow you to do that - it just plops the darkness on you, when it has first been told that you know beforehand how long you have to prepare. See Angry Joe for what else sucked, I pretty much agree with him.

Fable 3 had such poor execution. Game: "Logan is a big bad tyrant." Player: "How so?" Game: "Well he kills a bunch of innocent nameless characters you've known for about a minute." Player: "Is there any logical reasoning behind this?" Game: "He does it to stop the coming evil!" Player: "Does killing innocents actually help stop the coming evil?" Game: "No, not at all." Player: "Oh so will Logan play a major role in the entirety of the game to help justify him being a tyrant?" I think people didn't get the point of Fable 3's saint ending. I could be dead wrong, but i think what they wanted to show is, that your brother, although a tirant, might have tried to do his best for the people, and only once you take his seat you find out the burden he been carrying and why he made certain choices. That the saint ending is a grind and hard to do, probably been done on purprose to make it able to end as a Saint, but it making it hard for you personally as you have to sacrifice your own belongings, and if you don't have that, you are stuck with agreeing on things you don't like but otherwise everyone is doomed. I'm certain that the "good" ending wasn't actually meant to be a grind. The economy system just sort of broke that particular part of the game. You were meant to either go broke and kill everyone by being naively kind, or to genuinely protect your citizens but end up as a tyrant. You could either make the tough choices to tyrannize your citizens (but keep them alive in the end), or to pamper them as a supposedly benevolent monarch... only to to have all of them die from the inevitable invasion. The one thing that really stuck with me from Fable 3 was the feeling of absolute emptiness after you failed the final mission (made all the "good" choices, but you were bankrupt and everyone died). I fast traveled to every single city, looked inside of every single shop and every single house, and there was absolutely no one. They were all dead. 13 year old me really couldn't handle it, but it made a lasting impact on me about what doing what's right actually means.

No. Actually I fully understood the point they were trying to make. And it really is what Benjamin was saying. It was supposed to be impossible to do, and meant to be a preachy bit of pro-capitalist propaganda. Make you believe that tyrannically predatory capitalism is "for your greater good" and that the only realistic alternative is well-meaning but ultimately bad for everyone. So when the exploit was found I used it. Without a lick of concern about "cheating" to a get a true good ending. A more realistic take would have allowed you to seize things from trouble making capitalists, tell everyone about the threat, construct a planned economy around dealing with the threat while including the people you were trying to save in the decision making, and win. Harder? Yes. Grind? No. You could be evil and save everyone the capitalist way, be altruistic but stupid and kill everyone, or be communist. That would have been MUCH improved over what we had.

Albion was such a great setting. Fable 1 was amazing, Fable 2 was great (but could have switched out Lucien with the Crawler), and Fable 3 was just disappointing, but I did like some of the characters such as Walter, the Crawler, and Sabine.

the only thing i hate about walter is how in aurora he catches the idiot ball. yes walter, chant that ominus-sounding mantra to that barrier. jump into that hole. fable always has its tedious moments (at least in 1 and 3 i noticed them) in 1 it was that prison segment and in 3 it was when the story introduces the crawler and proceeds to make walter look very, very stupid for plots sake.

As I start this video, let me say, that I absolutely love the game that is Fable II. Everytime I hear "And so our story begins.." Or anything said by the townfolk...or going to the blacksmith or of course the Balverines which scared the life out of me...countless chills overcome my spine. I'd like to return to Oakfield and re-listen to that beautiful music as the sun sets...Fable's soundtrack is the only soundtrack I consider an equal to Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3. And basically if you ask me, it was a great time to be alive. There wasn't even that much disease considering we never did wash!

The main problem I have with the Fable franchise was it was dumbed down with each new instalment; less choices, easier combat, removal of bosses, removal of the threat of death. Fables (and the lost chapters) is still the best of the series despite most games improve with sequels. It's pretty uncommon (perhaps even rare) for a game series to get worse with each release.
@medes5597
@medes5597 5 лет назад
Fable 2, in my opinion, managed something I've never seen in another game although it's often attempted; it had an incredibly simple combat system that actually had a lot of depth for players who spent time with it. I've seen first timers get the hang of it instantly and do well with the combat - but you watch someone who has played an awful lot of fable 2 and you see them play a wholely different form of combat, smooth and swift with different levels of power and defence, etc. I have no idea why they ditched it and simplified it to the point it was literally lacking in any depth in fable 3. It's beyond me because other games copied the fable 2 combat system because it was so good. Its bizarre. Generally I do agree with you, the pattern of simplifying with each release got annoying.

I personally feel Fable 3 gets too much of a bad rep. Yes, there are things Fable 3 changed to the worse, like the jobs minigame basically being reduced to "guitar hero" style of gameplay, removing death and thereby making the difficulty laughably easy, introducing upkeep to houses, dialing heavily back on expressions (though I personally liked the more personal approach to them, like being able to kiss, hug, etc), and so on. However, one thing Fable 3 did much better than Fable 2 in my honest opinion was story. While I agree that gameplay-wise, Fable 2 is a much superior game (personally I still think Fable: Lost Chapters is the best one even with its corridor-style world), its story felt like it was written by someone high on mushrooms. There was no clear motivation or reason to why the character needed to do what they did in that game. Like, begging on the street and being convinced by this mysterious woman to use the money to buy a music box instead of food? Fable 3, like the original game, did a much better job by providing clear character motivation. You needed to muster support from the people in order to overthrow your tyrannical brother, and by the time you did you had already gotten a taste of the real danger that was coming and needed to prepare for that eventuality. I still love and adore Fable 3, even with all its flaws, and I played through the games consequtively, so it wasn't just a case of not having the comparisson either. I agree that it's not the best one, but it really gets too much of a bad rep.
@dustrose8101
@dustrose8101 4 года назад
I'd argue it's the premise that's better. In Fable 2 Theresa convinces 2 street kids to take a risk that could grant all their wishes but leads to death for one and an adventure for another (with a sad irony in the end because Sparrow does get to live in Castle Fairfax but it cost them so much). In Fable 3, the side characters are so much better. Walter and Jasper are so much better than the side cast from Fable 2, but then things start to fall apart when the curtain is ripped away. Logan deposed? Cool! Can I have some characterization of him since I spared his life AND he's my brother, possibly get some more private insight on his decisions? No. Can I have a warning before I'm teleported over a hundred days in the future to the attack? No. Why had Logan made such little progress in the treasury? He's supposedly taking the tyrannical route you can take, but his money is pathetic. 400,000 gold? Four years, and that's all you have from leaning on the dictator stick? Good lord, Heroic blood doesn't translate to financial savvy, I'm no better than Logan in that department and I can meet the deadline with enough gold.

Thank you so much. People who hate on Fable 3 absolutely annoy me so much. It is an extremely amazing game to me, not saying that the previous two weren't good, they were really fun, but the third one really did it for me with the character (I absolutely LOVE the female character btw, put on the military outfit, she looks so badass) with how they actually have lines of dialogue, and, how I think to myself a lot, not just making weird and cringey expressions throughout important scenes (Fable 1) or just being completely expressionless, and not doing much at all (Fable 2). Of course, I still loved them both, but Fable 3 was probably the best for me. I loved that the MC was more into the scenes, as having actual dialogue, and the second one having introduced a playable female MC, (I'm a guy, but I always like playing as the female in most games, if i can, because i find them more appealing and more likely to catch my attention), as well as making them more interactive. It's so annoying to see so many people absolutely hating Fable 3, while, of course having it's downsides, is still a completely enjoyable game, that I will always love more than the others. Love the game for what it is, or just shut up and not say anything.

they should make fable 4 a prequel to the other games about william Black, the founder of will and the first archon. The game would have 3 bosses, the knight of blades, jack of blades (best fable villian return), and the final Queen of blades and the final battle would shape the world much as it is stated in the tales of albion. it would be an open world, fantasy rpg. for side quests you would free villages from the influence of the court, discover ancient tomes about the void and the things in it, which includes the history of the court, the forging and discovery of the sword of aeons. as well as the building of "the old kingdom" after the main quest is concluded and would include the building of the heros guild and the spire, as well as many other old kingdom structures.

Oh no please don't do that future-Fable-Maker. Am I the only one who doesn't like the bullshit-lore they decided to throw out of nowhere after the game realesed? More seriously I really hope they don't do that because I really find it exciting to play in another story. I mean, the spire were related to Archon and the first Fable talked about the Archon too but the plots were really different ; Jack of blades was awesome but so does the Spire. Hope they bringing new things ! I hope they make a prison arc and a arena arc though.
@dakotafrazier9495

it was simply my opinion of what i wanted to see in a new fable game. i want to see something at least providing more lore and worldbuilding than the games have previously done. it would help the player create an attachment to the world and its people. and it would help to create a more critically successful game as well as commercially. An open world is kind of mandatory in this day and age and it should be far better than the games have done in the past especially with the new console hardware and ever evolving computer technologies it will be cheaper and easier than ever to do so. As for the character we play as we should have far more choice when it comes to weapons and spells (the first game had a massive selection of spell and fable 2 had the most weapon variation) as well as different approaches to each quest and the choices should have more of an impact on the world. the character needs to have more backstory and something to actually motivate the player to explore the world and take on quests. all of this is what fable shouldve been and i know it seems like really high expectations but compared with some other games to be recently released such as God of War, Dragon Age Inquisition, and the series that fable could learn the most from (when it comes to choice and a great open world) The Fallout Series it falls extremely short. even when comparing Fable 3 (2010) and Fallout 3 (2008) fable 3 came out a whole 2 years after fallout 3 and yet still had many more loading screens, was extremely linear, barely had any choices. it is simply the result of a bad developement oversight by microsoft.

Blue★ The first one was really corridorish, se second and the third were more open but the light ruined a bit the exploration and more than that it was quite empty (except for some areas) and more than that it was mostly some ways to go through, you can't just pick a direction and go, if I remember correctly there were many wall (mountains etc) that blocked you of not following the path. The roads were just confusing to make the illusion of freedom. The kingdom of Amalur had a map system like you said, the aggregation of many average maps where you can freely move ; it was good, I loved it

I remember being criticized extensively for hating Fable 3 by my ex (together at the time)... “well if they kept it the same, you’d get bored with it!” And this video reassures me that while she may have ignored its problems, I wasn’t alone in hating it... Fable: Amazing, almost groundbreaking, replay value. Only downsides were the lack of open world and limitations after the main course. Fable: The Lost Chapters: Even better, though still lacks open world... Fable 2: Enjoyable, but not as good even though we finally got an open world... and I didn’t want a damn dog by my side every moment. Why couldn’t I just leave it safe at home? Fable 3: I can’t remember much, something about a weird level up system and confusing storyline/role. Fable Anniversary: On my to do list as soon as I finish a HyperSpin Console to install it into along with all the other games from systems I do not have anymore (as like many others who were fed up with Microsoft’s lies and arrogance leading up to the NextGen systems launch, I no longer use Xbox of any generation.)

The gameplay was pretty fun and the way all of your choices changed your character was awesome. I get how most people were disappointed though now that I've learned about all the hype and claims made by the developer.

Recently replayed the first two fables (still need to get to three) and whilst they don't entirely hold up in all areas, they're still fun and charming in their own right. The best part about them is that quirky sense of humour and character which gives them a tone all their own - Fable 4 better re-capture that above all else.

Jonathan Walmsley don't even bother with the third. They took just about everything that was fun about the franchise and took a shit on it

Loved all of them! I actually really loved investing in property in the 3rd game and making mountains of money. Even without the impending darkness I would have gotten rich.

LazerzZ that intro gave me chills and almost made me cry.. So much nostalgia and thought to how far I've come since I was just a young stoner teenager playing games.

I loved all 3 and recently went back and got 100% on all 3, they are one of my top three favorite series just cause of what it teaches you and how beautiful of a story all 3 is plus how they are connected, i almost cried when i heard lionhead studios was shutdown i always had hope they would continue the bloodline in a "lost relative" type of way after the king of 3 died in the desert, like maybe make it where your character wished back his sister in 2 along with the dog and she had children but they were taught to be villians by jack of blades since that is who it sounds like found her or something idk exactly, but i think that wouldve been great!

The first Fable was the best, especially in terms of villain. 2 should of been longer and had a better ending. 3 would've been better if it stuck to the sibling rivalry aspect instead of a black, life sucking tar monster.

That's one of the reasons i think the Crawler should've been in Fable 2 instead of Fable 3. Just leave Fable 3 to a sibling conflict for the Kingdom their father built.

I very much enjoyed Fable Lost Chapters. Probably more so because I didn't know about the all the Hype when I played it. It was just a random game to me. Fable 2 fell a little flat to me. The removal of armor, having to get a job to make money(Oh boy, who needs awesome paid quests when I can play a minigame for an hour!) and I generally just didn't like the story much. I preferred the Guild from the first game, though I wish it had been a bigger focus. The classic story of starting as a nobody and becoming a great hero was lovely to me. Fable 3 was shit to be perfectly frank.

well going to be honest money is a very easy thing to get in fable 2 if you knew how. u can own practically everything before you even meet terissa were she shows you the spire for the frist time if your willing. just grind some money on the blacksmithing job for 10 or so min buy all is stuff go to the castle grounds sell it all to the merchants there buy all the other stuff in town and sell it again to those merchants then buy house's or just w8 a few days and repeat. it only takes about 30 min total to do to get rich for the rest of the game. u can do the same thing in fable 1 kinda. buy as many emeralds as u can and go to oakvel and buy and sell emeralds to the vender over and over. and then your rich. u can start that just after you leave the guild. srly money in those two games are the easiest thing to get.

@@TheBronf They fixed that in Fable Anniversary's Heroic Mode. You can still grind money from card table games, however.

@@Mosydys What's heroic mode? Because I'm playing Fable Anniversary right now and I make hundreds of thousands buying and selling diamonds to the same vendor repeatedly.

Fable 2 had me so flippin spoiled. It was one of the first xbox games I ever played, immediately after Halo Reach, and it has been the second most important game in the foundation of my understanding of what Video Games are to me. The first was Darkcloud from the PS2. Man that was good.

It captured me as a player and before this game I wasn’t a big video game player. This game changed that. I’ve been looking for the feeling this game evoked ever since. Some games have come close to that whimsical feeling, but none have ever come close to Fable.

I remember being able to pick out one thing for my eleventh bday, and that one thing was fable 1 on pc. The cover art blew me away as did the idea of being able to make in game choices that affect the entirety of the game. And ofc being able to use melee, range, and magic (will) made for great game play.

Fable 1 was classic, and unbeatable experience. 2 was mostly more of the same with slight expansions, a less interesting level up, and a more bland story....and a massive step down with the removal of the minimap, and the horrible 'full map', and the 'follow the glowy stuff' until you're at the quest point. And 3 was a horrific experience, with the menus as walk-ins, and what not. Not to mention there were even fewer spells than #2, even with the 'combination'. Also, the second part felt completely arbitrary. "Hey, here's a good or evil house decoration! Choose one!" ....what? Also...like...the ending is so anticlimactic. I think the literal only memorable thing about the game was that, and the island you get stranded on, and first meet the darkness.
