I'm a huge LG fan and I did go see the Farewell Tour when they came to my area. I was actually surprised to hear LG in an interview admit that Mick made him a better singer (not in so many words). But he did give much kudos to Mick for helping him shape the way he sang some of the songs.
Every band member in early Foreigner was OUTSTANDING!!. The drummer even played with a smile! The sax player was insanely good! I loved the performance of the tall blonde guitarist too!. Of course Lou's singing with so much feeling & facial expressions, was out of this world! Amazing band early Foreigner. They really rocked my world!
People would be wiser to buy Lou Gramms biography 👉 "Lou Gramm" > JUKE BOX HERO >My 5 decades in Rock n Roll. If you want facts and not skimmed over talking points.
The song "Double Vision" was a huge influence on me and still is to this day. I'm always trying to emulate it's minor key, energetic, sleek, clever, rock and roll cool.
Lou Gramm & Mick Jones are in there as songwriters, but the band is not - I agree that is a disgrace. Lately, some band that long deserved to be in there, finally got in. Let's see if they do the same for Foreigner...
Foreigner is a super group. They all had massive talent with great lyrics, vocals and instruments . What a phenomenal band. Kelly Hansen has done a fantastic job replacing Lou Grammatico. But Lou is the master on vocals.
Unsual Heat was not overlooked by me. I like Johnny Edwards, I still listen to that album and Shadow King was great also and I still listen to that one as well. Get Real !!
If you're looking for more Lou Gramm vocals like how he performed on the first few Foreigner albums, I would check out Black Sheep's catalog. Arguably Lou's greatest vocal performances show up on their records imo
Only One Lou..And HE STILL HERE ❤💙 And Always. Stop this at other will take his Playse...So Crayzy.. J am a Big Fan of Lou Gramm..Så låt han vara det.Marie💙❤
Hipsters HATE Foreigner which is part of why I love them but the main reason is that I dig the tunes. I love their brand of fist pumping, lighter raising, stadium filling, hard rock!
In 77 I was 14th . And Lou gumm was they best rock singer in they 70 .to me .and today Lou is still holding it .the real foreigner. Not like today. Mick .should use his head .what I think anyway 🤔
Foreigner "4" sold more than 6 Million in the States alone, and another 4 Million + in Europe and the rest of the world. The Hot Blooded single went platinum. Foreigner Records was one of Atlantic's best selling albums EVER through the end of the century.
And amazingly, a lot of rock fans don't know who they are, until one sings a few lyrics of one of their songs. I've had this repeatedly happen and don't understand why. My wife and I seen them 4 years ago at Riverbend. Kelly was then the lead singer, and sounded just like Graham. It was an awesome show. Just recently seen KISS on their final tour. Great music!
For the first 4 albums, yes. Then (in '84) Mick Jones turned them into Journey. Not knocking Journey, a lot of people love them (I'm not one) but that's fine. If the crybaby-gospel "I Want to Know..." had been by Journey, I still would have hated it, but could accept it because that's what they do. Foreigner lost MILLIONS of fans permanently, never to get them back, and they were never the same. I still LOVE the first four albums and totally separate early Foreigner from 1984 onward. Mick Jones destroyed the group. Lou Gramm hated singing the above mentioned. I have a Foreigner tribute band I LOVE, and they will not sing it. So when you say a 'great band', you have to specify. It's not like the Beatles of the Eagles where you can make that statement.
It would be nice if at least one original member could still tour with them (meaning, Every show) .... but heck .... Mick's now 78, and Lou is 73 and had brain cancer .... Gagliardi and McDonald are gone ..... sigh .... depressing .. 8-/
Just to set the record straight, the last few years of foreigner has been a tribute band with no actual members in it. Why are they still call it foreigner as beyond anybody's reason of thought.
Shadow king had the potential to be a great band! To me they were like a harder rock version of Foreigner, kinda like Hardline with Schon being a harder version of Journey.
Shadow King should've been a new chapter for Gramm and the band going into the 90s. Lou returning to Foreigner in 1992 was a business decision that backfired (1) Atlantic pulled the plug on Shadow King after one concert to force Lou back in Foreigner. (2) Lou really was never going to get past "I want to know what love is " (3) Atlantic records dropped Foreigner from the label for good after the compilation release of 1992s "FOREIGNER BEST and BEYOND (3) 1994s, Mr.Moonlight ( non Atlantic)Lous new full album and his last Foreigner album ever bombed and charted far worse than Unusual Heat Foreigners 1991 album with Johnny Edwards.
Wow ! You missed the dismissal of 2 members before the recording of the "4" album, the animosity caused by the songwriting credits on "I want to know what love is" between Gramm and Jones, the fact that Jones didn't produce a song for Van Halen, he was brought in for the whole 5150 album, Gramm's solo album "Ready or not" was released in early '87 and Foreigner's "Inside Information" was released in the fall of '87 so they didn't compete with each other and both were successful albeit not as successful as hoped! Also, you failed to mention that when Lou Gramm released his 2nd solo album, Mick Jones also released a solo album around the same time featuring the single " Just wanna hold" . So do better research next time or talk to a Foreigner fan and lastly you completely omitted the fact that 2009's "Can't slow down" was sung by new vocalist Kelly Hansen, ex vocalist of Hurricane! Nice job of your retrospective!!
This is how the internet is dumbing people down. You get someone who can't be bothered to do research, such as this genius, then posts a video with incorrect information. People who don't know any better eat it up and believe they learned something. The only lesson to take away from this is to never believe anything you see on the internet. Do your own research if you want to learn anything. Or don't and be a dumba$$, I don't care. It's your life.
Great. Thanks for sharing. I was just sharing the original Foreigners effect on me in college, specifically the years 1978 & 1979. I didn't say I knew the entire history of their band. LOL
I think , in the beginning, mick jones and lou gramm Happened to foreigner.( Although their band were great! ) In the later years on their downward spiral Mick jones happened to foreigner 🤡
You forgot to mention Jason Bonham who played the drums from 2004 to 2008. Fm radio in my opinion failed to play some of the better songs on the double vision album like lonely children my favorite song on that album
Actually, Mr z. Back in 1978, FM radio( in my area) did play various cuts off of DOUBLE VISION, they played "Love has taken its toll" and "Back where you belong" just to give the album more exposure. It did sell better than the first album. Rare second albums do that.
So gramm left after jones insisted on the majority of the writing splits starting on the song i want to know what live is and from then on took almost all the splits (% of writing credits) historically they had split them near 50/50 but starting in that song moving forward insisted on 95/5 and then all of it.
Humble Pie, Moutain, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple. Led Zeppelin, Genesis, King Krimson, Rolling Stones, Yes, Kinks. New Order, The Cure, Sex Pistols. Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Black Flag. Jerry Garcia, Grateful Dead, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, The Who, The Beatles, YardBirds.
Thing was, their first album was epic- kick ass rock, progressive rock, blues rock; not a loser in the bunch. Double Vision had several great songs then Head Games only a few. Sorry, I cannot accept your analysis. Do better.
I went out and bought that subscription and yeah and hit the lock button on dead and here I am leaving the car may h*** up what else you want me to boiler pines up?
The BULLET was fired the second Mick decided to screw Lou out of song writing credits for all his work on "I want to know what Love is". When Mick did that, it set in motion a series of events that assured the end of Foreigner. Also, Micks desire to make more keyboard songs really shifted the bands focus and caused confusion and alienation among the bands members. The same thing happened to REO Speedwagon. All the hits were sappy ballads. Nothing wrong with ballads but it really puts you in a box, like what happened to Journey.
Very simply put Jones insatiable ego and kicking Lou Gramm out of the band. Sorry at that point they were just a Foreigner COVER band. LG was Foreigner in terms of vocals and you can credit the other guy with a nice effort but he never had the top range that LG had. Listen to Urgent during the early days nobody comes close to LG. Difference is night and day anybody who doesn’t think so never heard LG in his prime. like saying my neighbor looks like Halle Berry and my neighbor IS Halle Berry
No mention Dokken bass player Jeff Pilsen who joined the 2000’s & played with them for quite some time…..WHY NO MENTION OF THIS???? JEff was a great vocalist too which was a major reason why he was chosen I’m sure…
@@bwithrow011 Well, I'm from Europe and I've never heard of him before. I have all the records and Lou's and Mick's solo albums. Never seen him mentioned anywhere. Interesting. So, if I understand correctly, he's just a replacement singer?
@@bwithrow011Checked out some clips on RU-vid, not impressed, sorry. Thank god the original band had Lou, this Kelly guy would have gotten them nowhere,...
The weird thing is the current members excluding Mick Jones, have served the band longer than the original members. But now Mick is not touring their really just a cover band!
Your style of narration is hard to listen to. Drastically dropping your volume on the last word of a sentence, and your strange enunciation of some words are just a couple of reasons you should consider using a professional narrator.
Bruce Turgon. Not...'Bryan Turgon'. I was in a band with him early 80's... briefly in Sacramento called, White Lies'. Bruce ended up in Steve Steven's Atomic Playboys, Warrior ( MCA records) before that...and, in the 90's....Did join Foreigner replacing Wills on Bass. Guy lives in Redding, CA now. Where i also grew up and lived in the 70's.
