Jose Lezcano is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. He rides in New York in the spring, summer and fall and spends the winter in Florida. His big break came in 2008 when he won a Breeders' Cup race.
Lezcano attended the Laffit Pincay Jockey School in his native Panama before moving to the U.S. in January 2003 and launching his career at Gulfstream Park where he earned his first win in March 2004 aboard Cloudy Gray. He spent his first season at Monmouth in 2005, finishing fifth in the standings overall.

Whenever jockey look back, left and right, slow it down,they usually wait for other horses to come up and win. If he not slow it down, he can win very easily.

He put himself and others in more harms way then not by checking inside. His focus should be in front and gliding the horse in into a clear path forward. The most crucial part of the race to keep the momentum and instead kept waiting for I believe the 3 horse to come but had no room. But if you know horse racing then you know this is just another day at the races. Nothing is real these days- nothing lol

For those of you saying this was some sort of “safety” issue or similar, you simply haven’t watched enough horse racing. And you definitely don’t pay attention to top jockeys like Lezcano who routinely dodge and weave through extremely tight spots completely neglecting safety in many instances in order to give their horses the best chance to win. His horse was clear as could be, he has ZERO safety concerns. That’s the first point. Secondly, this isn’t the way you race ride 12.5k claimers. Possibly in much higher stakes, every blue moon, a top rider will try to get an advantage by “race riding” in such a manner. But the fact is, with cheaper horses at North American tracks, the name of the game is to try and set reasonable fractions, and then get separation at the top of the stretch. This practically guarantees victory, especially with cheaper horses. Cheaper horses usually aren’t good enough to overcome large deficits at the top of the stretch. These are practically the cheapest horses on the grounds at Aqueduct. You don’t think Lezcano is aware of that and aware of the situation? He NEVER rides like this. He’s always focused on getting separation or gaining on the top horses - not looking around to see where the competition is at like he’s on some sort of Sunday morning stroll in the park. Lastly, this was the first race on the Sunday card out East. A race that is usually not at all in the spotlight as the majority of racing fans aren’t paying any attention to this race. Most of them haven’t started even watching the races this early. The perfect race to put a fix on as it’s an “unimportant” race to most bettors, especially horizontal wagers. It was obvious that what Lezcano was doing was looking around for the 5 horse to make sure his mount got passed by McCarthys horse. Once passed, he knows his mount well who isn’t good enough to re rally for the win, even under heavy urging so it’s ok to go ahead and start urging AFTER the 5 horse has passed you. Watch more racing if you think this was some sort of safely concern or something by Lezcano. The way he rode this horse is NOT how you win races in North America.

Simple explanation, fix race..
@robertprestonsr2453
@robertprestonsr2453 2 года назад
Horse TRAINERS do NOT FIX races to LOSE... They try to dope horses to WIN... Drivers or Riders FIX races, usually by keeping FAVORITES out of the money... Sometimes they do this on their own and get others in the race to hold them good horses back... But more often than not, the FIX comes from outside the race track... and... you better not win if you are not supposed to .... because of what might happen later to you or your loved ones.... And, incidentally, you cannot fix a race for big money if you do not have a good, large handle amount of cash bet in that race on horses that are not gonna be in the money that time... But if the fix is in, they NEVER tell the TRAINERS... because that is simply like informing the enemy about things they should not know about... One other thing that you don't know unless you are out there: It isn't hard at all to LOSE a race by a head or neck...

People are always making accusations that the jockey fixed the race,always negative responses never positive,the way I see it Jose Lezcano reads the racing form or Past Performances 🤔 maybe he thought he had a lot of horse and was always aware of the horse he thought he had to beat in that race,as you can see he is looking back trying to move before the five and practically block him out,he starts race riding again when he sees 👀 the five on the move but by that time it was too late,already surpassed,only lost by 1/2 lenght,, bad ride maybe by a veteran rider,not done maliciously on my opinion..

So cheating in NY racing has been prevalent for years, and I don't think it would be fair to point the finger at Jose Lezcano alone, a number of jockeys are guilty of it. The simple answer is he was looking over his shoulder for the 5. When he realized the 5 was passing on the outside (not the inside), he kicks it back in to ensure he runs second (as intended). Cheating in NY needs to be cracked down on. I know it happens everywhere, but it's BAD in NY state. Always has been. I'm sure some very important people had the 5 4 exacta cold. Lol

The horse was on his right lead on the turn. That's the wrong lead for turning left. He should have been on his left lead. If he had roused the horse while the horse was on his right lead while turning left, the horse would have been unable to hold his line, and would have drifted out very wide. There is footwork involved in turning, and changing to the proper series of footfalls in order to maintain speed and cope with centrifugal and centripetal forces involved. This horse did not employ the proper footwork.

His bad riding likely caused that horse to go off the wrong lead....and he basically almost went to a standstill in the stretch looking over at the rail for no reason(they probably had a 3/5 exacta).....if he doesn't get suspended, there should be a huge uproar.

Horses have 2 ways of "seeing"........both eyes focused on something, or each eye independently.....ever wonder why horses spook that are in front?....it's never the one in 3rd 4th?.....this is why.......switching eyesight freaks them out......objects can appear to jump out of nowhere......horses like seeing other horses in herd....some freak out in front and pull themselves up....... This topic is probably why horse was on wrong lead. .............if it was another reason, that's fine. Again.....pat day did this ALL THE TIME......great jock......

This race is clearly fixed. The key is looking at the #4 around the far turn. Notice how easily the horse comes up to the leaders WITHOUT ANY URGING WHILE THE OTHER TWO HORSES ARE BEING URGED and then when the horses enter the stretch, the two inside horses are all out and being whipped WHILE LEZCANO DOESN'T EVEN URGE OR WHIP HIS HORSE UNTIL THE OTHER HORSE PASSES HIM. He clearly had the horse to not only take the lead but draw out by several lengths. The whipping at the end was only a show. THIS RACE WAS CLEARLY FIXED! PATHETIC! Anybody that knows anything about horse racing can guarantee you the jockey was purposely keeping the horse back when he should have easily won. Sad. I would ask for a refund.

I always thought that high purses mean less holding of horses. But in the winter in NY those 12,500 races are nothing more then future fair horses. But the purses are so high for them why would a rider risk getting Sent down for dis honest riding. 🤔. The purses in NY are just to high. The jockeys get what 10% of the purses right. But guys remember how dangerous it is out there. And if once and awhile even in NY racing they do something so what. Why so what. THEY CANT FIX DEATH HEAD INJURIES AND SPINAL CORD INJURIES. THERE NOT REPAIRABLE NOT IN 2022 MEDICINE. REMEMBER ITS NOT THE OWNER OR TRAINOR IN DANGER,,, ITS THE RIDER. ANYONE WANT TO SIT OUT THE REST OF THERE LIFE IN A WHEELCHAIR ♿. I DONT.

I would rather play the lottery, because if I hit I will be set for life. Enough is enough, these people become millionaires robbing hard working people when fixing races like this one.

It’s plain as day. You can clearly see that he finally finds the horse he’s looking for (the 5 horse) when he peeks over his right shoulder and sees it looming up to him. The final nail in the coffin for Lezcano is this: watch closely the sequence where he finally spots the 5 all the way to the wire. He does NOT start seriously urging his mount until he is certain he’s been passed by the 5! Watch closely and you will see him start urging his mount seriously only AFTER he’s been passed. He spotted the 5 horse well before it got passed him, but refused to urge his horse until it was too late. Watch closely and you can see this minor , but extremely important detail

I've been playing the horses for almost 40 years with some success and have read, analyzed, and guessed payoffs for many races. The Daily Racing Form mentioned those looks Lezcano gave and also said "..seemed surprised by the presence of the winner then lost the advantage. Kept on under a drive while fighting inside that foe and just missed." I had to shorten but that's the meat of it. DRF's comments about a horses performance in any race are very accurate and I rarely disagree with them. Race callers usually get it right too. Some comments here did not bother to read the chart or analyze the payoffs in this race nor compare it to other races the same day. The exacta paid $32.40 for a 2 dollar bet. There was 142K in the exacta pool which was similar to races 6 & 7 with the same 5 and 6 horse fields. Race 7 was a stakes race. The rest of races on the card had a lot more money in the exacta pools. I would think if there was a "fix" the pool would have been much bigger. For an almost 4-1 horse winning, a 5-2 coming in 2nd and the 2-1 favorite failing, it's a very reasonable payoff. The horse was game coming down the stretch, that is obvious for all to see. Lezcano was trying to win the race. Why he took those looks is a bit of a mystery to me. Since I usually do not play Aqueduct I am not familiar if Lezcano has ridden this way before. Safe for me to analyze that in no way did he hold his horse back late in the stretch, he was trying to win the race. An exacta fix should be easily seen and it is not.

@@kingpro5857 So Lezcano risks his livelihood for what, to cash an exacta ticket for maybe 2K? He gets that for winning the race! Nice personal attack, I'll bet you do not even come close to my knowledge of the game nor my success on playing the horses. I have almost 40 years experience, you? That exacta paid almost exactly as one would expect for that race. Nothing to see here. It was one of the lowest betting pools for the exacta on the entire card.

Indian Bella was the better horse in the race, I been a fan of her since she won me a nice dd at Remington. Jose knows he has a good horse, on the turn his inside horse the jockey started turning hard and using his whip. Jose looked and wanted to be aware of his environment out of safety. On the stretch he did give effort and made progress and could have won but McCarthy on Indian Bella had the momentum and outmatched her opponent to win. Indian Bella was that much better in this race. Had I known she was going to run I would have took interest. I remember losing on races when the jockey looks around when they have momentum. Javier Castellano did that to me on a race as soon as he looked towards the finish line Santana finished by a head, I thought if he didnt look for that split second he would have won. Not a fan of the jock looking around but they need to for strategy and safety. I dont think he fixed the race.
