It doesn't make sense that someone would give ALL of their family's money to someone as an investment and without even checking to see if it was a legitimate company. How would they pay their bills and live day to day with all of their money in an investment? That is VERY STUPID!!!

@@tutuldok Most people with functioning brains would invest an amount of money they can afford to lose. But not every single dollar you have. How would they plan on living day to day and paying bills if all their money is in an investment.? They must have done a lot of dumb things in that time period to have social status. I want to know exactly how much money it was that he gave the guy. They don't really talk about how much anyone is worth financially on the show.

Perhaps there was a real Maud Beaton, who died sometime in Paris, and this con artist appropriated her identity. Maybe she was her companion and knew all about her family ties. And so, it was very convenient for her, because the real Maud was an orphan, and the rumors about fatherhood were started by a con artist in order to receive loans like her prototype.
