She had three consecutive top-12 pop singles in 1966 and 1967. Her first smash hit, Born a Woman, sold over a million copies and earned her Grammy nominations for best vocal performance female and best contemporary solo vocal performance, male or female. Often described as a country singer, Posey’s musical works have varied. Born in Jasper, Alabama, in 1945, Sandy Posey grew up in West Memphis and graduated from West Memphis High School in 1962. As a teenager, she was reluctant to share that she could carry a powerful tune, but eventually, the fact came out. Soon after graduating from high school, Posey got her first professional gig as a background singer in Memphis with Hurshel Wigington, the man who later established the vocal group The Nashville Edition. Word about Posey got out fast, and soon she was recording for Sam Phillips at Sun Records as well as for producers at Hi Records and American Records.
She was named the second most promising female vocalist behind Nancy Sinatra by Record World in 1967. Meanwhile, Billboard had her as the Number 38 top U.S. artist, right behind Bobbie Gentry. She performed on the TV shows, American Bandstand, Hullabaloo, Where the Action Is, and Hee Haw. On top of that, Sandy Posey sang background vocals on such smash hits as Percy Sledge's, When a Man Loves a Woman, and Elvis Presley's, In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, and Kentucky Rain. With such a mind-blowing portfolio of music success, it’s surprising that Sandy Posey isn’t still in the spotlight today. So the question is, what happened to Sandy Posey? Join us as we take a look at the life and career of Posey and find out where she is today.

I first heard Sandy Posey's beautiful voice coming out of a Louisiana bar juke box while serving in the Army in 1966 and I have loved her ever since. When I saw the video of her singing "I Was Born A Woman" she looked so sweet and innocent I could never forget her. I'm glad she is still around and apparently doing well. Thanks for the update.

Sandy Posey has such a beautiful voice and style and she is such a tremendous natural talent. Her husband is such a great Elvis impersonator too. Real stars of music. One of the all time great female vocalists who did it her way and lives her way out of the spotlight. She is shy but a real shining star of popular/ light country music. What a success story born in Alabama but made it big in Memphis and Nashville. Just like Elvis did born in Mississippi and made it big in Memphis.

She also was a background singer on the big Percy Sledge song, Take time to know her. She was wise. She wanted to live a normal life rather than beat hertself into the ground like so many. Good for her.

She was smart to realize her limitations and lived her life accordingly. She was already into her 20's when the Beatles arrived. They changed everything overnight. Plenty of big time male and female vocalists saw their careers end as they were suddenly deemed old fashioned. Records were being bought by pre teen and teenagers who wanted the "new" sounds.

Her style of music was christened "country-politan". People in the city were listening to country music but wanted a more contemporary sound. Easy on the twang. 3 hits in a row was no small feat.
@brianbeecher3084
@brianbeecher3084 Год назад
That was around the same time as “These Boots are Made for Walking” which launched the so-called countrypolitan movement in music at the time, which included much of Glen Campbell’s catalog.
