As you guys know, i am a diehard Mizzou fan, so check out my playlist of all the videos i have made related to Mizzou football! ru-vid.com/group/PLCwDMhVtyOHhfp9XgdD-DOrBYOOmAKMDd
Fr he coaches at Glendale High School my school plays them every once in a while I know many of his players his offense is all pass no run very very fun to watch
this is sad to see what happened to him. I played against him in the playoffs in 2010. We pulled off a huge upset against kenton that no one thought possible because of him. In college I also had a chance to play with two of his favorite receiver targets at UC. they both had high praise for the man. It's awesome to see that his story has continued in an amazing after putting up the cleats for the last time
Not many adults handle that many tough circumstances and setbacks (some obviously self-created) w/o cracking. The fact that he kept getting back up and back at it over and over tells you a lot about him and his family. Not surprised he ended up in a solid spot with a productive life.
@@benbaer4697 Such a dumb response to my comment. His skin color has zero to do with my comment, which was about how this individual responded to some very difficult circumstances. Others, with the same or different skin color, will each have different circumstances, but in the end the key factor for all of them will still be how they choose to respond to those circumstances, not the skin color of any of them.
Zachary 1707 The expectations and pressure are incredible for these guys. I remember what it was like when I was in college at that age. No way I could have managed that kind of stress. Most people can’t.
agree - but if you can't block out high expectations in high school, how are you going to do it in the NFL? The process of testing players - physically, mentally, emotionally, and character-ly, WORKS. Some guys aren't going to be NFL-ready until they are 25 or 26, and if they flip out after not being drafted at age 22, then a flaw is exposed. If they have great stats but bad arms or feet, the scouts figure that out very fast. Etc.
That's a big reason why a lot of "good" high school players disappear in college. Especially at top tier programs. In high school they're used to being the best player (or one of the best) on their team to being just another player on their college team. It takes dedication, motivation and determination to excel at the college level and that's where a lot of guys fall short.
I watched him play at Kenton High School for 2 or 3 years. He was amazing and had a cannon of an arm!! My boy was on the team and we were at the game, when they went to the State Championship and lost in a very competitive and great game to watch!! It’s a shame to watch him implode like that, but life happens!
Thanks for the memories, those were good years for me as a Mizzou fan. I drove to Columbia SC that first year in the SEC and watched the Gamecocks dominate them....they have some classy fans luckily lol.
As a Bearcats fan, really enjoyed watching his Brother play. I thought for sure his Brother was going to come here too. Sad to see what happened, but glad he didn't let it to define his life. Thanks for the video
The first thought I had was I remember this dude Johnathan Gray that set tons of high school records for rb in around 2010, got recruited, and went to Texas, never heard about him since.
Played at Aledo High School and was in my son's High School district, was a beast....Now lives in Austin and is starting a sports performance business...Funny how things work out sometimes.
man i remember when i was in HS when matty was still at Kenton and when they were still good lol. my uncle and i would watch mizzou games just cause he was at qb
@@AdderTude So there were 316 "position" players better than the "BEST High School quarterback in the HISTORY of high school football" in the class of 2012? Think about that for a second.....like I said....C'mon man! So then for instance the....the 30th best WR in the class of 2012 was probably ranked higher than the "BEST quarterback in the HISTORY of high school football. Yeah...makes sense.
@@gregd6706 Think about how many high schools there are in the entire country, dumbass. Mauk still holds the national record for career passing yards, attempts, completions, and total yardage, which have still yet to be broken. 317th in the entire country at QB is pretty damned good, considering most offensive HS stars are either WRs or RBs. Assuming Mauk would be ranked 1st in the nation is fairly brainless when such a ranking includes all positions on the field.
@@thelastmanonearth2631 Out of well over 20,000 high schools in the entire country (fifty states and one district). Most high school stars are either WRs, RBs, or defensive players. It's not that hard to fathom if you have a brain.
I remember watching that game at a Hotel in Scottsdale AZ.. All of my bpys all being from Missouri and Mizzou Fans were definitely more drunk after that game was over.. Imo thought Maty was gonna be the next big QB at Mizzou.. But instead Drew Locke Came along and kept #QBU goin!!
Grew up in Kenton and still live here! The HS football team hasn't been the same since Coach Mauk left. Maty and Ben were single handedly the greatest show on earth at QB.
Life doesn't go the way we think it should. You have got to roll with the changes..make the most out of what you are givin. Best of luck to Matt and his family.
he played my towns high school in highschool a couple times. he was INSANE. was always a fan of him after i saw him play for the first time. wish he would've been able to keep it all going.
He threw wayyy too hard. Good in the long intermediate to just plain long throws, but anything less than 15 maybe even 20 yards, his throws were almost uncatchable. But, the boy at least had that gun slinger arm
matty was so fun to watch at mizzou. his signature play at mizzou was roll out to his left and throw balls on the run 50 yards downfield even though he’s a righty.
I'm glad he is back on a good path. He definitely made some suboptimal decisions, he was a great MU QB for sure. Nice video. Thanks for not showing the notorious video of him. Well done video of him! He would approve I believe 👍🏽
Despite his downfall. WOW! what a ride he had and he earned it. From record-setting High School QB to lead and play in 2 SEC title games is off-the-charts for any QB. Just getting a D1 scholarship is "Winning"...my daughter plays collegiate volleyball. Of the 500,000 High School volleyball players nationally, only .08% get a free ride in her sport. She was a "winner" before she ever stepped onto the court in my opinion. Nobody will ever be able to take away what Maty accomplished. He will always be considered an elite D1 QB...which most of us only dream of.
Great work, Scott. I went to Missouri St but grew up listening to Dan Kelly do Mizzou football in the Big 8. I can remember being in the yard by myself with a transistor radio on listening to games with Steve Pisarkawics QB, Mel Gray, and James Wilder. Dennis Franchione was my high school coach, so there’s some irony. I once started a high school game for Fran and Payne Stewart was the opposing QB. Small world. #MIZ
Great job on Mauk. He was a great Tiger and got a series of strange and unfortunate events. One of my favorite players is Henry Josey. I remember his multi-touchdown game as a freshman and his winning touchdown against Texas A&M to go to SEC championship. Be great to see you do his story
Man just forgetting Matty mauks name reminds me of colt Brennan its upsetting that he was one of the best qbs in college history and he was the 10th qb taken in 2008
As a Fresno state alumni I despised him especially since I was in college when he was kicking our asses. But now I look back and feel bad for the dude. The Georgia game ruined him. I think even if he loses but put on a respectable fight, his career takes on a hugely different trajectory. The Georgia defense dared him to throw. They had like 7-8 guys in coverage and their rush still got to him. If he had done OK against them, bulked up a bit, he could’ve been at least a journeyman back up. He looked solid in the pre season and in Mop up duty.
I was a freshman when he was a senior in highschool. last game of the season, we were both undefeated 9-0. biggest game ever for our highschool. this guy was insanely good.
God bless him and this is what happens when people is jealous, and instead of being part of a solution they become a problem, but the story is great because he is enjoying the life he made either way good things comes to does who deserve them......
@@Scubasteve5022 exactly, overrated. Saw him play 3 times in high school. He ran through hugh holes and met up with linbackers 30 pounds lighter than he was.
I grew up in Northwest Ohio, where Kenton High School is located. The Mauk brothers dominated the sports headlines and the record books when they played, putting up disgusting numbers. The school was a Quarterback Factory for a decade.
His brother Ben played for Wake Forest and used to come give speeches at the local high schools when I was younger. I remember him coming and praying for all of us. As a Junior in high school, it meant a lot for him to come out and speak to us at 7 on 7s.
Dang, I remember when he showed up at EKU. I sort of figured it would be a winding road to get there from Mizzou. This is great context. I wish the guy well.
One of the greatest high school games I’ve seen was when Mauk’s high school team Kenton played Archbishop Alter in the playoffs. Alter ended up winning 35-32. Kenton never ran the ball. Never punted. Never kicked extra points. Always kicked onside kicks. On a side note, Connor Bazelak went to Archbishop Alter. Small world!
Chad Elliott from Grant HS in Sacramento CA is the best HS qb of all time. 47 tds vs 3 ints 3200 yard on only 220 attempts his senior year. Add that in your QBR formula and see for yourself
I watched him during the 2011 highschool state championship vs Norwayne. That was my school and being able to see them beat them was amazing but i never knew how great Maty was in highschool till now
I saw him play in the best high-school football game I ever watched. It was a final 4 game for Ohio high-school State playoffs. I had family on the other team and they had their best season ever at that school won by an average of 50 points in a 10-0 season. But Matty got his team the final score in a crazy back and forth shoot-out I believe he got a state title the next game. He was very good I remembered the name as soon as I Saw it on here.
Jake Browning played at the high school down the street from me. I remember watching him play in awe as he threw for 91 total touchdowns as Varsirty... the most dynamic football team I had ever seen.
I was thinking the same thing. Lol. Some people don't understand what a tragedy actually is. Seams like hes doing just fine and him and his dad are healthy.
He wouldnt have ever been an NFL starter. He just never had that potential. Good in college but not even an NFL backup. As shitty as it sounds that goes for most college qbs.
He reminds me of Greg Ward. Greg was great in college at Houston but he didn't have the "it" factor to be a starter, so he changed positions and now he is a starting receiver for the Eagles. Terrell Pryor, same thing with him.
NDSU has a reputation for sending their QB's to the NFL. Starting in 2013 Brock Jensen went to the CFL for 5 yrs. Next Carson Wentz went Philidelphia in 2016, next Easton Stick went the Chargers in 2019, this year looks like Trey Lance will go in the spring draft.
Did you live in kenton, cuz I grew up there watching him, my brother was a drum major there and went to Ohio State to participate with the OSU band, his name was Christian Asman
As one of his good old friends, and a top receiving target for him in H.S. . . Hell, I went to elementary school with the guy. He has always been an athletic guy. Definitely a cannon, threw 60 65 yds on the knees. Put a lot of time in the weight room and doing throwing sessions all year round. Agile, and quick. We went to state 2 years for 4x1 in track and field. He went for long jump as well. He liked to have fun with just about everything, jokes, pranks, games, challenges, and on Fridays. Family is great and very dedicated, always felt welcome. So the news with his father certainly rocked him and his friends and family. So decisions changed a few things but he is still doing great things and was one of the best of the Era.
I watched him his senior year in high school. Kenton is a very small town in Central Ohio. They ran the weirdest offense I've ever seen. They rarely punted and alway kicked onside after every touchdown.
Im from kenton and grew up with him.. we was in the same class and played in the state championship game our senior year.. we went 14-1 lost by 6 points in the state championship game
As with all uber talented QB's and players - there are so many factors that go into long term success. Some aren't even in their control. The stars truly do have to line up even for the best to see long term success at every level. I'll never fault Eli Manning or John Elway for how they handled getting drafted. Great to see his Dad is still with him.
@@BoomerKeith1 The browser version of RU-vid is the worst. But damn I might have to because the ads are getting out of control. Edit: browser version while using on cell phone.
Loving the highlights of them losing to my Bobcats in the state championship. He balled out that game. Best high school player I've seen. Best of luck to him now.
His high school Kenton is in the wbl conference where my high school is also in I was like 7 years old and Kenton played my hometown wapakoneta I remember being at that game for two quarters because there were so many fans from literally states away I had to sit on my dad’s shoulders just to watch the top two teams in the conference fight it out for the wbl title this guy was legit wapakoneta is known for producing stellar defenses but he literally made us look like a jv team it was badass to watch him but also sucky cuz my cousin was out qb at the time and I feel like it may have been the last regular season game but yeah this guy was a legend around my area I’ve never seen so many people watching a high school football game people were outside the stadium just trying to catch a little bit of him it was insane
Great family! Anyone that grew up in Ohio knew about the Mauk dynasty. Legendary, wish the whole family nothing but the best #proudtobeawildcat #hardincounty #KHS2003
I was there at his second incident. Guy I knew wanted to pick a fight before he left FieldHouse and happened to pass him and an O-linemen on the way out. He told him " You fucking suck at football" then started scuffling with them. I gave him a lot of shit after he got suspended
I live in Hardin County....I played basketball and ran track against his brother Ben, he beat me by like 200 meters in the 400 meter. Talented family but never materialized into pro careers.
How sad is his story, what bout brother ben. Getting hurt at wake forest as a freshman and didnt go well left went to Cincinnati and alonst lead the beatcats to a orange bowl victory, nice to have both record setters here in hardin county ohio, and how fitting that wilson footballs are made in same county. Ben and coach maulk never punted on 4th down with there spread offence,
