-------------------------------
The Black Keys appeared to come out of nowhere in 2010 with tracks like ‘Tighten Up’ and ‘Howlin’ For You’. Their album Brothers saw their blues rock sound appeal to larger audiences -- and finally! After nearly a decade and five albums later, it was well deserved and perhaps overdue.
The success of Brothers resulted in extensive touring and promo events, and the boys still delivered a quicker and catchier effort with El Camino just a short year later. Even with rock at quite possibly it’s lowest commercial state, The Black Keys released two smash albums at once. In 2014, the pair returned with Turn Blue, scoring their first ever No. 1 selling record. The group had spent so many years as an underground act, but when they finally achieved mainstream success and were quite possibly at the peak of their musical careers, they vanished. Which begs the question, what happened to The Black Keys?
-------------------------------
Did The Black Keys Break Up? / Have The Black Keys split up? / Are The Black Keys broken up?
No, the Black Keys are still together, they’re on an indefinite break and say they’ll eventually return to creating music together again.
Are The Black Keys Working on a new album?
As far as we know, not yet.
Did The Black Keys ripoff or copy White Stripes?
No, they’re just both really into blues and garage rock.

genuine question as I came pretty late in the game to any Black Keys -- is Gold On The Ceiling looked at by many of the fans to have become such a ubiquitous mainstream hit that it's not really one of their true "respected" type works anymore? even so I got no shame in saying I am insane for that song. Especially considering where the Black Keys as a whole band don't really hold too major a place for me honestly in the pantheon of things most meaningful and impactful to me in my life (I'm 45), not like I've ever sat it down to chart it out on paper, but I think Gold On The Ceiling may very well be within my top 100 favorite songs ever, considering every genre tossed in there. And trust me even a lower number in that grouping is still very high in the grand scheme.

It is nowhere near their worst album, and tops most of their old work. Many of their old fans are just salty as fuck, they want the keys to be nothing but the old bluesy gritty sound. The confuse their preference for that sound as it being "better."

If you've been a Black Keys fan for 10-15 years, it is definitely their worst album. Mainly for the reason that it sounds absolutely nothing like the band they had been for a decade, its essentially indie pop. Which is fine, I'm all for experimentation, but being such a huge fan of the blues that album really let me down.

Charlie Forbes Despite the drama I feel like Jack White and The Black Keys are actually pretty different even though they come from similar blues and rock influences. The black keys have more of a soul/alt/rockabilly element to the band due mainly to Dans vocals in guitar playing and Jack White has more of a dirty, animalistic, punk vibe. Both bands have exceptions to these descriptions obviously. I lean towards the Keys for my love of Soul/RnB stuff but I love Jack Whites vibe as well.

Personally I think their potential next album will be their most experimental, a bit more like The Arcs. I know a lot of fans want their garage roots back but looking at what dan is doing and what pat is producing it seems they’ve outgrown that. Bit of a hot take: their next album will be their best album

Amazing video as always, but I have a question about your sponsor. How are they raising the money that they donate for you?
@Middle8
@Middle8 6 лет назад
When you open a new tab, an ad appears on the tab, you don’t need to click on anything or ‘wait to skip’ it just loads and goes away once you go to a new webpage. The ad revenue is donated to charity with some going towards operating costs.

This video got me hooked on the black keys, only ever heard them on NBA 2k14 and 15 and loved everlasting light. Now they’re my favorite rock band. Thanks Middle 8

I do not consider The Black Keys licensing their music as selling out. I see it as a bonus 30 second clip of Black Keys magic when I least expected to hear it.

School of Rock featured one of their songs, I remember I was 12 when this movie was released. It was an instant (and still current) favorite and it changed my entire musical landscape. I was so into Thickfreakness and Rubber Factory and remember downloading and listening to these albums from parent directories, which I'd spend HOURS doing in the 2000s. They represent such a huge transitional point in my adolescent life and I appreciate everything they've done.

Awesome video! In March I was fortunate to Dan perform in Southern California when he was doing a tour for his Waiting on a Song solo album. I got to stand in the very front row less than five feet away from him because it was at a small venue it was truly special. Later on the tour, I think in Nashville, Patrick came out as a surprise guest and the two did some songs together, I would have killed to see that live. I'm sure the Keys will be back together soon.

@GradualCrew 6 лет назад
Also, I forgot to mention about how Patrick had a broken hand last year and couldn't play the drums at all for a while which was part of the reason Dan went on to do some solo stuff while he waited for Patrick. I wouldn't be suprised if they were in the studio as we speak!

Yeah, I mean it’s not like The Rolling Stones or The Beatles recorded there or anything (among tons and tons of other huge artists). Or that the Muscle Shoals studio is named in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” (one of the biggest songs of all time). A real hole in the wall.
