The San Antonio Spurs are not the same as they once were. While they were expected to fall off after trading away Kawhi and seeing their old stars retire, it's been a pretty hard fall off. Hope you enjoy the video!

Once Kawhi requested a trade from San Antonio, they entered NBA purgatory, where you aren’t good enough to compete for a title, but aren’t bad enough to get a good draft pick. The Spurs have handled this better than any team could have, finding young, talented guys with their later draft picks and in free agency, but they are still just another team.

The Spurs have always been one of the smartest teams in the league (if not THE smartest) They always set things up perfectly. What needs to happen is the Spurs need to move on from Pop. Either let Pop retire or let him coach some playoff team with championship aspirations. Maybe he can go to the Nuggets or Rockets or 76ers or some other team. Edit: Also make Tim Duncan the new Spurs head coach.

The problem with the Spurs is that even though over the years Pop has created a dynasty, they never really got BIG free agents or top draft picks. They would sign some aging stars or guys to help with the Stars they already had but never anyone too crazy. The thing is the Spurs model depended completely on them finding hidden talent in guys others overlooked and building talent and a team identity from the ground up and it worked for them for over 20 years. But when Kawhi demanded to leave he through a major wrench into that whole process. Now the spurs are stuck with aging stars who are past their prime and young guys who aren't developing under Duncan, Ginobli and Parker. Therefore these new guys aren't going to develop as well as they were able to before. It's crazy to see, but one guy deciding he didn't want to be apart of the Spurs through their entire franchise off.

We had a good run (over 20 yrs). Not bad for a mid-small market ina tuff Western Conference. Well run franchise, like Indiana Pacers and Utah Jazz over the decades (small markets, mainly winning). Detroit Pistons and OKC Thunder same as well. Detroit is going through tuff times now. But things go in cycles. Our Spurs havent had times like this since '97. Before that , mid-late '80s (pre Robinson yrs/post Iceman/Gilmore years. San Antonio uswed to choke so much in the playoffs ('80s and '90s) but5 NBA titles later, finally happy. We are rebuilding now and not freaking out. Pop is about to retire, but we have good young players and developing players in the G League. Great front office and scouting as well. Build mostly from within. Don't usually draw big time free agents. LaMarcus and DeRozan are solid vets, but nothing spectacular in the playoffs. We dont have cornerstone players like Robinson, Duncan, Parker or even Manu anymore. They all got old, retired. Kawhi took off on us. Murray has the ability to be that kind of player though.

It's because for all of his famous coaching career, he was known for developing these guys into the hall of famers they are now today. He got lucky, had a winning team who he coached extremely well (winning team dosen't equal success, great coaching does). When you have that many good players together, it becomes increasingly hard to get them to gel. Look at basically any superteam that's ever existed. The ones with good coaching excelled. The ones with bad coaching almost always had a player that took on that on-court coach type of role as a leader. And then there's the ones with bad coaching and nobody stepping up as a leader, which is what leads a stacked talented team to a downward spiral. You take any great coach with a team with no identity, and they can do their best, but are not a wizard or god and can only take them so far. Look at DeJounte Murray. He's a great example. This man was not suppose to develop into the star he is today. Just like Kawhi. They both began as not "role players" in the way we think of them, but players who played a specific role, in their case, usually defense. And Pop helped coach their game to the point where Murray is a triple double machine on offense and one of the leagues BEST defensive guards. Pop still to this day doing a phenomenal job at developing those young guys and teaching them to play team ball no matter who is capable of carrying the load or bla bla bla. But ya man put some reshpek on this man name

I dont think anyone wants to be in Spurs in 21 season since they have no stars in the roster in that year unless Dejounte Murray rises and improves to become a star. If i were them im gonna go rebuild thru the draft develop young players then surround him with good role players just like what they did with Tim and Robinson back in the days.

The winningest trio in NBA history retired and nothing was ever the same for the Spurs, we'll just have face the fact that this rebuild thing is happening and we are bound to lose a lot of games, maybe even miss the playoffs and finals for a while, something that Tim, Manu, Tony, and Pop gave us the privilege of not having to experience in a very long time. It was an amazing run, but it has to end like all things.
