Illiterate people believe in the existence of devils and angels as physical beings distinct from anything else. Little they understand that these are two extreme attributes of humanity. They are living among us. Every town has devils and angels. I see them every day. I see them wherever I go. To have this unique power, all one needs is a good heart.

Even though I enjoyed watching this series, I think the BBC could have included at least one positive story. I have watched hundreds of interviews of by Punjabis on both sides of the border. Even though there was a lot of murder and mayhem, there were many positive stories that give hope to humanity. One thing that stood out, that I wasn't aware of before ( as stated by Punjabis on both sides) was that nearly all of the attackers were not from their own villages or areas. They were opportunists and thieves that came from outside. For some reason, this was never mentioned in any of the books that I read about partition, or in any of the documentaries. People have been led to believe that there were underlying issues before, when nearly all of the partition survivors say the opposite. Interviews of partition survivors are available to watch here on RU-vid. Anyone interested in this period of history should definitely watch them.

As a Sikh whose grand parents migrated from what is now Pakistan... Such horrifying stories can be heard of a relative from every house in Punjab ( India) and pakistan. Partition itself was a loss and a disaster, what was even bigger disaster was humanity was tortured and brutally dismembered by people who lived like brothers and sisters.. All in the name of religion... Our home was broken for a religion and by people who came as traders ....the man who drew the line ( partition) didn't even understand what it meant for people and what it will do to millions and millions of people permanently ...7 decades on and it still hurts to the core!! Whilst we the people of United India are to be blamed but the bigger blame lays with the British who broke us systematically and to the core with their divide and rule policy ( by adding fuel to fire for over 200 yrs) to create a monster for their own political gains and self interests. Sadly the very country which created the monster ( Britain) conveniently shreads it's responsibility and and portrays itself noble which it is far from the truth.

Today my mum was telling me the story that my grandad told. I'm from mirpur in Azad Kashmir. So at the time of partition there were loads of Sikhs living in mirpur and there were Hindu and sikh villages as well as Muslim villages. The Sikhs were leaving mirpur and killed on their way out and every one was hiding. And there were Hindus living in our village who asked my grandad to take care of their belongings as they have to go to India to be safe. They told my grandad that if they don't come back he can keep the things (nobody knows what happened to them) As everyone was killing eachother because there was literally zero law and order and everyone became crazy. Also whole villages were wiped out. People would shout ''the Sikhs are comming' and they would run and there was a man who killed his own wife and children and then killed himself. That is how bad it was. Everytime my mum tells me the stories from my grandad ( he passed away like 10 years ago. He was a very good man and so many people from all the villages came to his funeral). The stories make me so sad and tears come in my eyes. It was all the governments fault. The British, Jinnah and all the politicians who made us kill eachother just so they get the votes . How can they be so reckless with deviding such a big nation?!? I'm from Azad Kashmir/ Pakistan occupied Kashmir and for us the partition feeling is still there. K V I have been to indian Punjab many times to with my grandfather to visit his ancestral land, mainly Jalandhar, they greeted me with lots of kindness and did not seem to care that I was Muslim. Hindus however treated us much differently and gave us rude stares and told us to go back to Pakistan as we were not wanted. But Punjab is Punjab and is the same on each side of the border, there is no difference in culture or language. I feel you should visit Pakistan as I feel you will be suprised at the religious diversity, particularly in cities like Lahore and vast areas of Punjab as well as Karachi and Islamabad. Britain NEVER made decisions to separate Pakistan from India. That was Al Jinnah's decision to establish an Islamic state which ran on Sharia law and not on Hindu laws. That was his demands which the Indian government agreed to. The British were only assigned to draw the borderline. That was their only contribution to it. It is so wrong and plain illegal to falsify history and divert Jinnah's decisions on the British.

Nehru with red cliff commission included some Muslim majority districts in Indian Punjab. Where the Sikhs and Hindus started slaughtering Muslims. And more Muslims were killed in that event than both Sikhs and Hindus combined. My dada was from zilla Patti, adjescent to Zilla Qusoor in Pakistan. On 14th August they got to know that their Muslim majority district was included in Indian territory. His whole family was killed by a Sikh Jatha. Only he survived.

I am deeply sad after watching this story. I can feel the pain she must be going through. It is difficult leave your home your place and run just for your life. I can clearly recall my grandfather's tears every time when he talks about how his family had to leave their luxurious house in Punjab and came here in Indore, just because his brother is to leave here and just please was far from the borders to Muslims can live here peacefully. I asked him once why didn't you choose Pakistan as an option to which replied with all his strength, "wo mera mulq nahi hai, main wahan kyun jaata, mere baap dada is mitti ke khatir mare, main kyun kahin jaane lagta". Today when I see the nation getting polarised on communal lines I feel really pathetic and equally vulnerable. Where are we heading to? Again few politicians are dumping us to the same old flame of religion. This all is horrific

Maybe currently India under BJP rule focusses on One religion due to majority and our Rights as Hindus because we don't have other 50 countries option to choose from but back then when partition happened there was no BJP the only party which used to rule India was Congress a Liberal party loved by Pakistanis as well as Indian Muslims so then why did they asked for another Nation ?? Why did they asked to divide my land on the basis of Religion ?? Today countries are fighting for their lands but I am glad my Nation India not just gave away one but 2 parts of it's nation so that different religion can live peacefully in their respective Land (Pakistan & Bangladesh) now as Hindus We never want to see our Land getting divided again in future We will support a Party who loves our Nation and won't let it fall apart like they did back then We tried our best to be liberal and understanding but the opposite side never tried that's why they still attacked India 26/11, Pulwama attack, PSI Modi murder plan, Asking for Islamic rules when we already gave lands for the people so that they can follow their religion peacefully, Kashmiri Pandits Genocides, Vandalism of Temples, Terrorist attacks and the list goes on and on there is no guilt and no one even cared to apologize for our Sufferings Not Anymore We are done being peacefully destroyed We will support the party who will guarantee us that no other religion will be a National threat and No one will ask to Divide my Nation Ever Again

Why should you visit such place to recall horrible incidents of 1947. Locals had no hand in killings. It was outsiders job. This all is sad part of partition.

It happened both sides of Punjab. Unnecesary innocent people were killed. It was not supposed to heppen. Thousands Punjabis (Muslims & Sikhs) were killed. In some areas the whole population of villages was wiped out. At the same time numerous Sikhs and Muslims tried to save the lives of their fellow citizens of the other faiths. Many elders from old generation still remember their friends with good words. They recall and metion their moments of happiness and sorrows.
