I am from the Philippines and British passport holder. I worked abroad (UAE/Scotland/Norway) since 1978. In 2022 I returned here in the Philippines to retire. Bought a condo in Manila and just finished building my 7 bedrooms all en-suite retirement home in the province 2 hours drive by car from Manila. I adopted my eldest sister and her husband who are in their 80's and do not have children and only finished grade 5 in school. I also adopted my younger sister whose contract was terminated in Dubai because of Covid. If I will not allow them to live with me in the provinces - they will end up begging in the streets! I also built a pet area for their rescued 50 plus dogs and cats from Dubai and Manila. The Bible says we are the extension of God's helping hands. Do you think I will have a peaceful sleep thinking my sister's are begging in the streets while I am enjoying the fruits of my hardwork abroad? My conscience tells me to help them and God will pay me back - and I thank God I am blessed to be a blessing to my family who ended up poor to no fault of their own. I am Westernised in my thinking but I kept the compassion in my heart.
Your blessed by God and you share your blessings to your sibling. Your role in life fulfill. God bless you long life to enjoy yout fruit of your hardship.

I love how he explained the culture more than the "dating" aspect. He appreciates wife not because she is Filipina but because she is wonderful as a person. I love how he did not encourage people to go to Philippines just to date and get married. I know people wanna retire and find a wife here but that's not the only thing Philippines can offer. There are misconceptions about women here. Foreigners thought Filipinas are submissive like any other asian countries do. Filipinas have values different from neighboring countries cause we have mix of west and east culture. Filipinas are family oriented like asians are and ambitious and confident like westerners are. They will not bow on you because are a man. They will like you because you are worthy husband.
Having a Filipina wife has given me valuable insights into Filipino culture. Although my family and I reside in North America, we frequently visit the Philippines.
This guy is no complainer. He is just like a Filipino enduring everything the nature throw in to him. Very rare to find in the west these days. American learning Filipino resilience.
@@rounder400 The Philippine economy is growing fast. It is fast approaching the economy of Thailand which was already miles away from the Philippines just a decade ago.
@@rounder400 Yeah life is all about balance, Filipinos don't need to change all the way to "being a complainer" but also shouldn't be too passive as in accepting everything, nice middle ground would do wonders.
The new generations now a days the majority of the Filipinos family don't live with their family. Some of them have to leave the nest to find a better job and a better life but the one thing that haven't change is helping their families when they can. I love the dynamics of a filipino family we take care of our elders no matter what and we always take care of each other.
thats correct, most reasons people cant leave home is because its expenisve to move out. Its not actually unique in the Philippines also, staying with mom or dad for ages also exists in many other places, even in the west. not this video completely, but too many videos always pushing the narrative of stay with family versus leave and move out, too many old things that arent old anymore, things change and evolve, and besides that its simply too expenisve. plenty people can comment and say they bought and built this and that and helped this and that, good for them.
@@arnoldbuenavacz8026 yea buddy sad to witness and see physically however it's true.as a Filipino we are not afraid to tell the world like it is, live and learn my friend.

This guy is telling the truth what he experience living in the Philippines, especially living with his in laws. That's nice to know. yup...100%. Thanks god Bless.
It doesnt work out the same for most people even locals in the families fortunately , just too many conflicts and complaints You find some that like to power-trip because they may own the home , etc...
@@CollosalTrollge It doesn't much affect local males. But it's disgraceful if he's a foreigner and from the West. They are expected to have come here with high valued currency and capable of buying for a local woman at least a residential lot. Dowry or dote in our language is still applicable if the guy is a foreigner. This is a poverty-stricken country and we don't like welcoming poor immigrants.
Thank you Max for this content and showing content representing the Filipino people! Adam has great appreciation for Filipino culture and it's people and the positives of its society. I'm filipino-Canadian but always appreciate other Western cultures loving our country.
Very well said! Thanks Adam & Max. A very cool way that an American & Russian talking with each other loving the Philippines! Your all welcome here. Thanks guys 😎💖
I'm an OFW. since I was a girl. until I got married. from dubai, malaysia, qatar. now I'm in Europe. I saw how much and how important we Filipinos are in other countries. not because of racial pride but I saw that I'm Filipino only those who know how to help. because most people still fear God. I hope that the Lord will always bless us, my countrymen who are of another race. God knows. We are here on the surface of the world. We are just visitors.
Philippines 🇵🇭 is a mix of different culture Eastern and Western combined... So often most of the Filipino population can speak English...and family bond is close and strong in asia.
Not really. It mostly just Filipino, Spanish, and American with a hint of S. Korean. That's not to say there arent any eastern cultures there but thats not true at a large scale.
Lol...the problem is the most family members within will always depend and cling on for any kind of support(especially financial support)to those who earn big and well enough without being dependent and resourceful on its own. Common Filipino family mindset....
@@charlesjosephdiputado804 Nope.. I'm 47, single, and none of y my siblings ask for money unless I give it to them voluntarily. It depends on how parents raise their children.
@@vareseources No offense but i think you live in the different case and mindset of life but it's most a common tradition especially to the poor class of Filipino families, it's a tradition to always obliged to support at any means even to the distant relatives and even to close friends. It's a bit of annoying reality in the Philippines...
@@charlesjosephdiputado804 it's not a tradition. It's called proper parenting and good education. Born and raised in Silay City sorrounded by sugarcane fields. Worked here in Batangas for 25 years. If you are an expat and is married to such family, I feel sorry for you. Anyway, most of the expats, especially older people, marry uneducated Pinays so no wonder why. @@charlesjosephdiputado804 I was born and raised in Silay City, surrounded by sugarcane. I've worked here in Batangas for 25 years as a sociology professor at a premier State University. What you are saying is not a culture but failed parenting plus illiteracy. No offense to women married to foreigners, but most women married by foreigners, especially those older expats, are uneducated women. People with a sense of pride, even poor people, don't rely on their family members. This is why education is very important... One of my brothers-in-law, a farmer, refused to take money from me and my siblings and only asked us to help finance his children's education if we had extra money. Now, he has two engineers, a teacher, and a seafarer. When prioritized, education can change everything. Those who rely on their family members for everyday needs have no plan for their future. Despite having 4 working professional children, my brother-in-law still works in the sugarcane field. He will be retiring this November.

I very much enjoyed this video. Max and his interviewee are both well spoken and thoughtful people. This is not your average video about living in the Philippines. Thanks!
Salute to him for his effort to learn tagalog...though he's a foreigner....better than most FilAm who doesnt even speak simple word and they are proud of it.😮😮😮
just to give you context, the past Filipinos are mostly nomads. Thats why we have "bayanihan", where houses can be carried anytime theres a need to move. aside from that, the Philippine land is pretty rich, early people were originally farmers, they make a lot of kids to help with the farm, thats basically why the Philippines have extreme family ties... not to mention, in the past, wealth can be measured by the number of kids you have or how big your clan is.
I find this interview so interesting even with regular topics that has been brought out to some of the same type of videos. Great job, Max for your interview, and for Adam for being so natural. Both of you made the conversation truly refreshing and interesting!
They do not have the same sense of humor at all. I've been married to 2 Filipinas. (37+ years). Go to where they grew up and diug deep into their way of life, then you truly understand their culture. Big cities are plastic and about $$$. They are the most hospitable culture in the world. I have been around the world.
Hello everyone? If you want to know ANYTHING about how the Philippines really is, Keep watching this guy video! I been here in the Philippines for 12 1/2 year now and this guy is telling the truth!!!!

I really appreciate foreigners living here who are trying to learn the Filipino language even if they know for a fact that we understand and speak English. I see at as a desire for them to connect more to the people and immerse in our culture.

grandma says GOD will bless you more for being kind to your sisters & families & their pets So nice to hear that even you are rich now you still have a heart of a Filipino caring & helping your family & their pets NICE COMMENT THANK YOU GOD BLESS
It was my first time to travel overseas (I went to Taiwan btw) last May and I am finally getting why foreigners say we are warm or welcoming. The knowledge of English certainly helps a lot but I think we smile more often and are easier to get closer to? You can see this reflected even in the service business. I have a very small sample size but in the hotel we stayed at and restaurants we went to, the service people were polite but very curt in their interactions with customers. I am not sure if we Filipinos smile way too much or the Taiwanese smile very little. It made me appreciate our people more.
I miss my old country, we lived in the present, and overcame limitations with the spirit of bayanihan, helping each other resolve immediate problems. Abroad, you learn to anticipate road blocks as you have no back-up, and friends disappear when you need help. However, I have no regrets moving to America 🇺🇸 where I actually matured as an individual and responsible citizen. I am grateful for the life I made here, with many American angels along the way!
Families in the Philippines want to remain as a unit. Everybody work but share always even in activities like going to church together, outings, parties or celebrations.Religion play a prt in boosting trust and enforcing faith that when troubles come, they will get assistance and help from the Lord; They live by wht they have and act each day according to what they have. There is so much resiliency and resignation. Acceptance is not a problem either.
Not true there’s a lot of broken families in the Philippines.Lots of kids are raise by one parent or grandparents. And there’s a lot of elders living alone because their children did not take care of them for financial reason
Great! you have a good conversation. You still have plenty places to explore in the Philippines. Am a filipino, I love exploring places like bukidnon and DAvao specially from January to March. Am residing in Dipolog City, it is also a good place to stay.
There is no place in the world like the Philippines. Simply the best people. Welcoming and warm as well as tolerant of outsiders. Even the "dangerous" places have their charm. Thats not something you can say about anywhere else in the world.
They are filming this in BGC which is a very select area of the Philippines and by far the most modern area of the country. Of course it has the full look and feel of any modern city in the U.S., but that will get old quick if you're staying for any length of time. Once you venture out 10 miles (even less), it becomes much different. You are quickly reminded that you are in a different country, but not in a bad way. Yes, some very poor areas, but the look and feel quickly changes. Amazing experiences to have. If anything, do not get used to BGC area and embrace the Philippines for what it is.
I like the conversation between these two guys ! It is good for the man who is married to a Filipina because he has accumulated Filipino culture.Godbbless you two andabuhay !
Not moving out of your parents house until you're married is an Asian culture, not just a Philippine culture. Plus, we love being with our family so much we don't mind being with them until it's time to go and move out and when that happens, we look forward to all get togethers because as I've said, we love being with our families.
@@artjazzworld6534 AFAMs are expected to buy his Filipina wife and her family a farm. Not to live with them in their house like a poor husband and freeloader. That is the basic role of AFAMs here.
Well said. Appreciate your honesty and opinion and respect to the filipino culture and people. Mabuhay kayo. Please continue to spread positivity about the Philippines. God bless you and your wife and family.
I like this guy's attitude towards the language. A lot of foreigners, and even some Filipinos, refuse to learn Tagalog just because majority of the people can speak English. He is right about making an effort to at least learn the language since he chose to live here, might as well make the most out of it.
I just got back from the Philippines. My third trip there. My wife was born and raised in Manila and came to the states when she was 13. We took our 11 year old daughter there (she's been the two prior trips as well). We stayed with my wifes family in Tagaytay. I love everytime we are there and can see us eventually retiring there. The people are so friendly and it very much feels comfortable for me when we visit.
When the security guard (from whom u asked where parking was) turned from serious face to a smile, it simply means “Haay salamat, i wont have “nosebleed” with you.” 😅
Sometimes, it's a matter of how you manage your salary. I've worked as a call centre representative but I was able to travel in or out of the country while I share my salary with my parents.
Nice interview Max, I love it. Thank you so much for making this interview often. I think it would be more insightful for your Kababayans, if you could also make the subtitle in Russian language.
I really liked this interview. Well done. Good questions, with just as good of answers. I feel the same way he does. I could relate to a lot of what he was saying. None gugmental too. More of being respectful. Well done.
What it is being a Filipino, we learn to respect from day 1. We were taught that way. Because of that all humbleness, caring and loving anyone makes us very strong individuals and proud of all accomplishments we possibly do. We love to feel welcomed. So thus we welcome others as well. For foreigners we welcome them the same as we welcome anyone else. Because in my own opinion it’s an obligation to make anyone accepted and not ignored. We have that satisfaction of helping others is a good feeling. And helping our own family is the best heart felt feelings ever. Maybe because as someone having nothing like me. Our neighbors and family friends gather and share whatever we have even just one day to be together. It’s in-bided in our culture so strongly this way. And there’s no stopping it. We are only humans being planted on earth 🌍. We nourish ourselves and neighbors, friends and family. Like plants 🪴 do. God Bless every one! Thank you for sharing your vlogs about my Country and my culture. Stay safe and 💜💜💜🌺☀️
Even people who have good-paying jobs, have their parents encouraging them to live at home, to save enough to buy a house, or to just have more savings, even if the kids are married and have kids. Parents in general like to have their kids close by. They like being involved with their kids new lives, to have some continuity, to help with rearing grandkids, doing things together, etc.
Exposure is not the problem of learning about other cultures in ds high tech generation, but d most important is that " the Filipinos are good at being flexible and willing to accommodate others".They are open at others.
My wife and I live part of the year in BGC and part of the year in the US. There is a big difference between Detroit and BGC. For example, if you want to each at Japanese restaurant in Detroit, they are scattered all over the place. You need to drive to different suburbs to go to one. In BGC, where we live, if you google for Japanese restaurant, there are over two dozen that are within a 15 minute walking distance. That is not possible in Detroit or any major city in the US. Most people don’t realize this. That is why living in BGC is so different.
Wow, Maine and San Francisco, that’s polar opposites lol. Maine is North East and SF is Southwest. Inflation is crazy now, feels like USA is unaffordable for the masses. Rent in Maine is $3k just for a single room during the summer, unbelievable!
Common mistake of some foreigners: when you decide to live in another country, make an effort to learn the local language, evennif you know how to speak English
It is very confusing for some but Filipino is the National Language.Tagalog is just the foundation from which it was built upon. Bisaya is a language too largely spoken in Visayas and Mindanao. It's just that Filipino was declared the National Language earlier times. One good thing about Filipino (language) is you can use it anywhere in the Philippines. But learning Bisaya would 100% be helpful too.
Not all foreigners come to Philippines to mingle with the locals. They come here because they money has more value in the third world. Westerners like privacy. They not interested in having gay locals hit on them every 4 minutes. The female travelers are find it very creepy when every 4 minutes someone tells them they are so beautiful and that they should join the Miss Universe.
@@88KidlatYou are so wrong. Filipino refers to the language, if you are speaking or writing in English. Tagalog is not the English term. That is why the subject in your school is called Filipino. 😂😂😂
One thing id say about the philippines, for expats from any country, is that when it comes to judicial acts that concern visa/residency/owning condominium/part ownership of corporations/business is that it is very easy. There's tons of successful koreans/chinese/indians/americans here who came from nothing and built themselves up and have fully assimilated. That's the kind of freedom you get because after all, our constitution and laws are patterned after the US. You don't get that kind of opportunity in other places in asia, nor the worse antagonism that exists in other asian countries.
English is our 2nd language and its being taught to us since our pre school. The new generation now specially, most of the kids now speak better english because of youtube, a good number of population of the new kids now mostly dont speak tagalog and more fluent in english than our own language
Although these foreign expats are part of the reason why real estate prices are shooting up in the Philippines but hey! Im not complaining. They are welcome addition to the Philippine community. We just love all of them, especially the "good" ones with respect to our culture.
Family traditions in most countries in Asia has its extensive relationship common between the family and relative members but the family tradition in the Philippines is the most stressful one, why???Even distant members will always depend and cling on for any kinds of support at all times and seasons especially to those who earn big and well enough...
That's true. We have to cater to a foreigner by speaking in English for them to feel included in the group. Hence in the long run, it would be better, if one learns the local language.
I’m married to a Filipina for 31 years in the states and now our son is married to a Filipina also. I find them to be very compatible, fun, and sweet people. The way they treat people will make you love them. It’s the best country in Asia for an American and most westerners, from my experience. I can relate to the idea that they are similar enough to feel at home around them but different enough to be interesting and fun. This is the same for spouses also. You will always feel the magnetism yet they will be more compatible than any person you ever dated. Granted, you have to pick the right one, however this compatibility, combined with the nuances are gifts that keep on giving.
