Vande Bharat train project with Indian Railways. Alstom, the renowned French multinational company specializing in rail transport, has emerged as the lowest bidder for the prestigious Rs 30,000-crore tender. Documents reviewed by Moneycontrol reveal that Alstom secured the bid with an offer of Rs 151 crore per trainset for manufacturing and maintenance of 100 aluminum body Vande Bharat trains.
With an optimistic outlook, Henri Poupart-Lafarge sheds light on Alstom's commitment to providing quality infrastructure and cutting-edge technology to the Indian rail network. The company aims to manufacture all 100 aluminum Vande Bharat rakes, showcasing its dedication to bolstering India's railway sector.
The competitive landscape saw Alstom competing against a consortium comprising Swiss railway rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail and Hyderabad-based Medha Servo Drives. Despite the stiff competition, Alstom's strategic bid positioned them as the frontrunner in this significant contract.
The winning bidder stands to receive Rs 13,000 crore upon delivery, with an additional Rs 17,000 crore allocated over 35 years for maintenance, highlighting the long-term partnership envisaged between Alstom and Indian Railways.

Very short sighted thinking. Aluminum rakes would have meant more efficient light weight, sleek looking trains. This would have reduced the power consumption as well. We would have also been on our way to becoming atma nirbhar in terms of this technology and supply chain for this. I am sure the benefit of this technology might extend beyond railways too. One day when it becomes too late we will be forced to import and be wishing that we had invested in this. The railway minister should take note, intervene and set this moving again. This is the chip fabrication moment of railways and we cant afford a pause.

Very true! Plus Aluminium is highly recyclable compared to stainless steel. Our trains would have become even more environmentally friendly due to that.

bhai mujhe ye personally feel hota hai ki apne trains ke external body frame smooth nhi hota hai. Jha jha joints hote hai vha vha halka sa bend dikhta hai frame mai. agar ise kisi tarike se smooth kar paye to trains ke aesthetics mai 4 chand lag jayega

Hindalco is working on the Aluminium extrusion process to help in the manufacturing of Aluminium Rakes. Although I have a lot of respect for Sudhanshu sir, I do think he doesn't have the full information this time. Basic infrastructure is being first set up so that we don't need to be dependent on China and we can make them at very competitive pricing. This is similar to the basic infrastructure which was first set up before Semicon fab could be set up in India.

not fully but semi, as private trains will attract more foreign as well as upper middle class economy, whereas the govt sector can focus more on providing better facility lower to middle class or BPL sector in low cost.

Sleeper version already aane wala hai bata chuke hai. Unko sleeper banana hi pad rha hai because longer journeys won't be possible without it. So dw, aa rha hai sleeper version.

Alluminium trains would be a disaster in indian conditions. Everyone should understand this is not Europe and their standards should not be benchmark for our trains. Soft alluminium can't keep up with the brutality our trains go through on daily basis

When tracks are still not ready for 160kmph, then what will be the use case of aluminium VB which would be 200+ kmph capable. Better to concentrate on upgrading network to which will let current version for better optimisation.

Vande bharat sleeper trains will be made up of stainless steel and aluminium.. I think we must appreciate the fact that this government is doing something different from rest of the previous government.. As we get more experience in manufacturing the train we will enhance our ability in quality manufacturing as well..

Dear we are not even able to run vande Bharat at full speed. It is 50cr cheaper per train. Once we'll reach at utilising it's speed potential 100% than we will move to next level.

Bro almunium coaches life are low compared to stainless steel ,or high speed train above 200 km per hour is not possible on present conjusted railway tracks ,its a right decision for indian railways to go with stainless steel,also aluminum cost is also more than steel

SAFETY OF RUNNING TRAIN IS GENERALLY CONNECTED WITH W / SPEED RATIO . IF IT IS MORE THAT 1 THEN IT IS SAFE ELSE IT CAN FLY OFF THE RAILS. WHEN YOU WANT SPEED THEN RAIL WHEEL CONTACT IS ALSO TO BE MAINTAINED AS SUCH YOU CAN NOT WORK WITH A WEIGHTLESS TRAIN / VEHICLE.

Maruti Vande Bharat is more faster, lighter, cheaper, energy efficient, better/smooth fit & finish, less maintenance and longer life (45-50 YEARS). Whereas, Tata Vande Bharat is heavy, sluggish, consumes more energy, uneven body panels. Requires more care (maintenance) and less life (25-35 YEARS).

I think its good decision bcs we need keep in mind our weather conditions r much harsher n fr that aluminium wont be good option it would hv more wear n tear plus we got many areas where got peacefuls living near train tracks who throw stones at trains just out of shear hate fr India so all such things kept in mind aluminium trains wont be good option fr time being..... First upgrade tracks to 160km than we can launch new train sets. BJP has no vision only superficial work like example vande Bharat.

Correct decision taken by our govt. It would be extremely difficult to maintain and repair aluminum coaches, that too on time. We could achieve some technologies but we don't actually need them. Stainless steel is much superior overall from a larger perspective.
