Honestly rewatch it, VAR ruined the game for Argentina because L.Martinez was actually on the same line btt it they counted shoulders 💀 which in soccer/football, it whoever steps over the defender .
If only Brasil didn’t bottle the 98 final and also won 01 copa america.. Then it would've been 94,98,02 wc 97,99,01,04,07 copa 97, 05 Confederation cup.. 😐Zidane and a young brasilian team lost to hondurus in Knockout😐
nah I doubt it only because people don’t like to value the Copa America at the same level as euros but imo would put Argentina as a top squad if they win the next Copa America (Edit: Guys I see your replies I don’t agree with what I said I’m just saying what everyone else thinks, and like I said I believe Argentina has to be a top 5 country team if they win Copa America)
@@godlclutchgodog2054 im a messi fan , don’t know where your coming from but I’m saying from different perspectives people wouldn’t want to count Argentina as top squad because they believe winning the Copa America or the finalisma aren’t valuable trophies
Honestly, Argentina have always been a team on the cusp of greatness. They’ve only ever achieved it when they’ve had great defenders. If Argentina can keep their defenders fit and performing at a high level, they will win Copa America.
It is not about the quality of the defenders themselves, more about playing a team game where the forwards and attacking midfielders help in defence, and the Center-backs and defensive-midfielders help in ball progression. It makes the opposition hard to anticipate who is going to play the ball and who is going to receive.
@@didierrodriguez8778 you mean when cristiano 200 penalty had the referee in his pocket when he dived and win a penalty against Spain in the 2018 world cup group stages, or when after playing France and Brazil 10 times , he had zero goals until he was awarded 2 penalties at euro 2020 against France ? Cristiana Politico and his 41 extra penalties 🤣 more than Messi has some refs in his pocket maybe too.
You can argue the old guard before 2014 defenders were way better than what they have today. Walter Samuel, Zanetti, Cambiasso. Maradona as manager severly undermines his team without them in 2010, especially when the 3 were in prime form just having won the Champions League Treble with Inter.
This Argentina already deserves respect. They won everything in a FIFA senior trophy in the cycle. That is legend status. To get to the next level to compare to Brazil 94-02, Spain 08-12 or Brazil 54-70, they need another Copa America AND Finalissima. If they go back to back in the WC, then no doubt at all.
Argentina is already on the same level with those teams because argentina got to the finals of the FIFA confederations cup 2005, of Copa America 2007, world cup 2014, Copa America 2015, Copa America 2016 , then won the super Copa de South America ,then got to the Copa America semi finals in 2019 ,then won the Copa America 2021 ,then won the finalisma 2021 ,then won the FIFA world cup 2022 .so argentina has already been to 8 finals and 1 semi finals in 18 years,MESSI WAS AROUND FOR 7 OF THOSE FINALS AND OTAMENDI WAS AROUND FOR EITHER 6,7,OR ALL 8, I don't know if otamendi was there in 2005 and 2007 but I know he was there for the rest.
@@randomgamer4915 and on the 8th day God created you ? To tell us what to count , what to value and what not to value ? In my opinion that's a bit arrogant. Are you portuguese ?
They could’ve won 2015 and 2016 Copa America. If you watch the whole 240 minutes of football Argentina outplayed Chile both times but was very unlucky. They could’ve won the 2014 WC final too. Imagine those three titles ON TOP of the three 2021/2022 titles!
That's why I've always felt people were way too harsh on Messi. It was just a matter of luck. But I feel this team has a cohesion that no Argentina team has had in decades. Since 1986 there's always been something missing and now they got that.
Could've should've would've. In football, you take your chances and make the most of your opportunities. This is still a great team. But not an all timer
The copa America might not have the same value as the Euros but also considering Argentina‘s 38 game unbeaten streak they definitely deserve to be in that conversation.
If the World Cup was held this year. In South America Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay will be favorites. In Europe Italy, Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Croatia, Spain and England will be contenders.
@@francescotrombetta8548 more than most national teams... only France, Argentina, Germany and Brazil have reached two World Cup finals in the last 30 years
Yeah as a team, that Spain team was the best but this Argentina team has also been pretty solid with long undefeated record (can't remember their previous loss before the Saudi game). Additionally, the spirit and emotion along with the leadership of the GOAT, and support from all over the world, this Argentina dynasty is as great story as that Spain's revolutionary domination
Everyone knows those teams are op and argentina in 2014 was a beast of a team but aguero got injured,di maria injured and messi was sick if argentina had scaloni back then then 2014 argentina team would have actually been as good as 2010 spain or 2002 brazilian team bc messi was a different beast back then
That is even more impressive because they won it with fewer world class players and the young players stepped up too, not just Messi. Winning the WC with an average team >>> winning the WC with a super team.
@@kingdemon6586they scrapped it for like 30 years so you can’t use it to compare silverware if it’s against teams after 1993 from when I think it was stopped
Germany was the best side in 2014, but they were not a dynasty. You can’t even mention them. Germany failed to even reach finals of Euros post 2014, plus they were eliminated in group stages 2018, 2022. France actually could be called as a dynasty. In 2016, France were 2nd places in the Euros. In 2018, they won the World Cup and in 2022 they made it World Cup finals again. Argentina currently is bigger than Germany. Argentina won 3 back to back trophies.
I'd say it's only Brazil who can stop them in a regular game match. Uruguay and Paraguay can potentially hold Argentina up if allowed to take into penalties! For me, those are top threats for Argentina in America.
@@nickrodriguez3663 Well... On paper I get that Colombia clearly has better talent on their squad and maybe even Ecuador as a team improved compared to Paraguay. But when it comes to just challenging Argentina in showdown, both of those teams continue to disappoint against bigger teams. Paraguay to me is just up and down that can surprise a team who'd be sleeping on them. As for Uruguay, I picked them because they got Federico Valverde who should be the best because he plays for Rrrree-Al Madrriiii!!! 🤣🤣
@@sab-vl4jg Ecuador has the 3rd best team on paper and performed decent for such a young squad at the WC. No way you have Paraguay over either of them in any matchup.
If argentina wins 2024 copa america and 2026 world cup(messi will play 2026 world cup)then they can probably be around or at least close to italy's 1930-1938 team(italy's prime) and brazil's 1958-1970(brazil's prime)

Argentina is already one of the best international teams of all times. They're the first team in football history to ever win the Top 3 tournaments in a row and never playing at home in any of the 3 (only France won the WC, Euro and Confederations Cup/Finalissima in a row between 1998 and 2001 but they won the WC at home). They won every one of these titles defeating the reigning champion in the final (Brazil in the Maracana for Copa América, Italy at Wembley where they had won the Euro for the Finalissima and World Cup against France who were then the world champions). And they won all those trophies without losing a single game in 3 years (36 games in a row). Argentina has just lost once in their last 4 years, or 47 games. That's unheard of in national team history, not even the Brazil of Pelé did something like this. Facts tell us that this is one of the most impressive national teams of all time.
If they win a second Finalissima they'll be in achievements the greatest team in history. It will be their toughest match though, against an amazing Spain.

I'd say that Argentina reached this status regardless of whether they win the next Copa America in 2024. Argentina won three major trophies, and winning the next one would up the bar a bit more, but regardless it's really more of a matter of enjoying this period for the nation. It's definitely not easy achieving these things. There are have been many times in the past with great players who unfortunately weren't able to win many things internationally.

People can have opinions, but facts are facts and they're stubborn. What this Argentina team has achieved in the past 2 years is unmatched in football history. Not even Spain won the Euro, the WC and the Confederacions Cup in a row (they lost to the US in 2009). France did win this Grand Slam between 1998 and 2001 but winning a WC at home is always easier than winning it abroad. In terms of consistency, this Argentina team is unique. Winning everything and losing only once in the last 4 years (or 47 games), that's unique. If it would be so simple, other teams would have done it. But no other national teams has ever done it. If Argentina wins the Copa América 2024 and the WC 2026 then we will be talking about the best team of all time. Even though haters will still ne finding a way of dismissing these achievements.
Come on... you wanna compare them to Brazil's iconic hatrick world cup winning team that was led by Pele? Their at Spain's 2010 world Cup winning squad at best. Not ever! They still need to win 2 more world cups to be part of that conversation.
This has aged nicely, now on to the finalissima. Against Spain. Spain didn't "dominate" during the world cup. They actually lost their first game (like Argentina) and won the remaining games by a slim margin. They played well... Not denying that, but they were less exciting to watch than previous "great teams".
Both those games they got unlucky. Netherlands were bested and didn't get a chance on target till the 70th minute. And they tied in the 100th minute with 10 minutes added. Not to mention, Argentina dominated them in the extra time. I would re-watch that game because your memory might be hazy.@@kingplatform2255
Argentina have been playing in lots of final for the last couple of years. Only the last two that click. So, it's a perfect team now. If Messi was little younger, it could be final again in the WC for sure. This Argentina team working together with Messi so well. Higuan and some of the older guys was playing for themselves. But this new team was all about working well with the captain, everything just connect so well.
People underestimate this Argentina team,i mean has a country do what Argentina did? Even spain didn't win the Confederation cup , Argentina played 4 straight international finals and won all Current Argentina team is the best in history
But there is still a curse after winning two consecutive world cup in a row for both men and women, this happened for Italy 1950, Brazil 1966, Germany 2011, and USA 2023.
Although it is possible FIFA may want Brazil to win 2026 world cup by knocking out Argentina and France early, possibly before reaching knockout stage.
What a joke 😂 first mentioning Finalissima which is a friendly game with no value apart from an ugly trophy. Second, Argentina with Messi had to play five copa America in the span of eight years to actually win one. The final was gifted by Brasil. The WC showed one of the weakest teams we have ever seen win. The level of the rivals was so low but they struggled against Australia and only won on penalties against a weak Holland and in the final against France. Losing their advantage in the second half (not a coincidence). Let’s not talk about Messi being a player owned by Qatar and the corruption with FIFA, the penalties for no reason, all the strange new rules for rhe WC and the referees. Don’t ever compare them to that beautiful Spanish team or other good teams in international football.
Spanish team more stack no shit 😂 but all u need is a team with a goal and good system And at least 1 world class player to work with him and luck . Argentine may not have all the best player in one team like a dam club team but they have the best player of all time who kill for him 😂.
