Except he doesn’t actually give u any bananas, he just takes ur money and procedes to kill u. Believe me I’ve bought bananas from him before when I had zero and had 1 afterwards, ended up reloading a save.
Fun fact - banana yiga was the first yiga I ever encountered. So I totally thought he was a merchant offering a terrible deal. Then he said the “lie as slippery as a banana peel”, and I was like “haha okay see ya - wait what?” Then he was like “I will take your life” and I say out loud “what the fuck?!” Then, until I reached the gerudo desert, I thought that all the other yigas were mad because I didn’t buy that one guys bananas.
My first Yiga was just the moment I went down the plateu (saw him as my first npc) and then he was just like “How do you not know clan Yiga!? I will take your life”… I didnt trust npc’s until I reached Kakariko
My first Yiga encounter was leaving from Kakariko Village, right outside the Dual Peaks. She was crying and I chose to interact. She told me a story about the hero and then hit me with the "I will take your life". Physically, I freaked tf out trying to adapt to the situation and eventually managed to just run away.
The first one I encountered was a girl beside a bridge. I don't remember what bridge, but it was early in the game. She beckoned me closer, and I don't remember what she said, but she pulled out her tiny sickle and told me, "I will take your life!" and then I had a hard time killing her. Second one I remember most fondly- she was crying about something (I think it was a tuna sandwich) and I was like, "Aw, what's wrong?" not even thinking for a second that she could be part of the Yiga Clan until I started talking to her. Then she tried to kill me. Now I don't trust NPC's if they're not walking a trail, stay in one spot forever, or are all by themself around no civilization.
The guy just sold like 70% of the Clan’s Bananas to their sworn enemy for the sake of a disguise. He has to get them back somehow or he’s absolutely boned.
People asking where all the money is are forgetting that when you defeat a Yiga, it's not like a Bokoblin or a Lizalfos where they die, they teleport away. It's basically like your fighting them until they back off. So when you defeat a Yiga, the money they leave behind is basically what the Yiga dropped in the process of teleporting away
for me it was funny because once he reavealed his identity, there happened to be a lighting storm at the time. So guess what happened when he brought out that demon cutter... one shot.
I don't think Link's actually killing them, I think they're teleporting out. Probably to avoid the uncomfortable implications of Link killing people. (Professional Joke Ruiner)
@@richardmahn7589 Ganondorf's different, his humanoid appearance might not even be his real body since he often appears in pig beast form. Whatever he is, he's no ordinary man, unlike the Yiga.

The first time I encountered a Yiga (right outside Kakariko Village), I was scared at first. Then I stabbed him a few times with a Traveler's Spear, and he went down without a single attack or teleportation. I said "Huh, neat" and went on with my life. Now, when they started popping up out of nowhere and tag-teaming with guardians in Hyrule Field, that was a different story.

I remember when I first saw this NPC I was like who is this? Then I laughed because he just sold bananas. Then he attacked me when I refused to buy bananas and I was like oh, it's one of these guys And that's when I learned they're obsessed with bananas

I'm pretty sure that's the decision a few of them made when they abandoned their posts in the hideout to get a bunch of bananas that fell from the ceiling.
totally official yiga member avoiding tutorial: basically, if they aren't moving and they are just standing awkwardly in the middle of nowhere, they are a yiga.
Before I even knew much about the Yiga clan, I found one that starts talking to you BEFORE YOU EVEN SEE THE TALK PROMPT. I was like "Huh maybe this dude just has a really urgent sidequest for me" but nOPE My Fresh-off-the-Plateau-self wasn't ready.
That was pretty much my first experience with Yiga, I talk to a person waving me down and she starts talking up Ganon. And I'm thinking "what? who is this person? what's going on" And then she transforms into this fucking NINJA and I'm freaking out. This colorful pretty game is turning into a Don't Hug I'm Scared situation. I just barely made it out with my life. At that point I trusted absolutely no one that wasn't in a town. The second time I encountered one I was with Wolf Link and we double teamed him and I felt more confident about fighting them.
Seeing the "Traveler" on my travels is super nostalgic for me. It was an automatic avoid for me early in the game. Now.....I look forward to those battles.
Not in the sense of how long the game has been out, but like in broad scope of this game. I poured over 110 hours into this game and it felt like such a long time ago.
Yeah, I approach them with a sense of "Do you have any idea how many of you I've killed?" Early on, I expected there to be vastly different strategies from member to member. Nope. They all think the same strategy that's been the bane of.... *checks notes* ...359 as of yet, is somehow going to work "for sure" this time. Those poor bastards. I almost feel bad for killing them. ..Almost.
you know: try the same thing often enough and you will succeed. maybe you will make by your 400th Yiga make a stupid mistake that kills you to confirm the chances ^^
They didn't scare me, because I've already heard about them in Kakariko village before the first encounter. I've just thought that it's a nice little addition to the game.
I love these Yiga boys, sometimes I'm like "that is so freaking obvious dude" and a lot of the time I'm like "oh, this guy is pretty cool let's cha---OH SHIT"
My first Yiga encounter I was incredibly taken by surprise. I had trouble fighting him, I almost died a few times but managed to defeat him. I barely trusted or talked to anyone that looked suspicious after that. Then when I saw the Yiga Blademasters skip happily for bananas, that literally washed away my fear and wanted to talk to everybody hoping it was Yiga so I can have a fun battle. Eventually they just became as annoying as a house fly. A good bomb arrow can wipe footsoldiers clean off the map. If I don't want to deal with them, I ice them up and continue my day.
Josephstiltskin Watching my little brother play spoiled the fun for me. I literally went to kakariko just to hunt then all down after I left the plateau.
those things are more expensive than bomb arrows, you shouldn't waste them. they can one shot guardians (any kind) if you get a direct shot to the eye.
Josephstiltskin My first encounter had him jump into a campfire and stunlock himself to death, leaving behind a toasted banana. As you might imagine, I was very, very confused.
The first time I met the banana merchant was super lategame, so I had like 60k rupees and first thought the guy was legit, so I bought all bananas, effectively financing Link's headhunters.
It's disappointing they didn't make anything interesting happen since it costs so much :P They could have made him be like "I'm supposed to attack you, but since you like bananas as much as I do, I'll let you live for now"
Link, who has been the hero, and perhaps savior, of hyrule across all of his reincarnations, and has even been the hero of time once, just gave you an actual fortune for bananas. ...And you still try to murder him. Yeah, seems logical

+JustAnotherGamer Because the game would probably slow down to a crawl if it had to process 100 bananas at once. Also, it's kinda broken if you get 100 damage boost items basically for free.
Well luckily for you the Yiga Clan allies with you in the new Zelda game hyrule warriors, because the bad guy betrays yiga. This is ofc after somehow Sidon Teba and a few others travel back in time saving Mipha and the other champions altering the story line. Which I don’t quite understand how the robot fell out of the box this time and not the time before that. Kinda making BOTW completely pointless other than to sell the other two games. But we’ll see.
@@SouthParkStudio It’s a simple shrodenders Cat theory where the Guardian is just as likely to fall out of the box as he is to not, basically two parallel universes are born at this slight difference one where Guardian doesn’t fall out of box and BOTW happens and one where the Guardian does fall out of box and AOC happens.
*sigh* I remember my first yiga encounter. I was pretty new to the game and wanted to head to a new area, so I decided to follow some dude on a horse from a stable (I figured he'd travel to another place with civilisation). I spent SO long, following him slowly, taking shelter with him in the rain, all to figure out if it would take me to a new place. I remember approaching a fork in the road and to the side was a female traveller who was seemingly lost. I decided to take a moment from my task to speak to her and BAM, yiga assassin. I fell off my horse, and the dude I'd been following galloped away in the direction we'd come from :')
Yiga soldier: fool! While teleporting I have 2 pockets the one I take the money I get from you in which I keep closed and the other one which is my daily pay! Wait why do I keep that pocket open?
I always buy every banana from this guy. _Always._ Granted, I'm probably funding the same assassins who try to kill me on a daily basis, but they pay me back, either in money, gems, or more importantly, in bananas.
They move up to the Demon Carver when you get further into the game. Well, in most cases anyway. It's not as simple as with different enemy colours, since 1% of Yiga Clan encounters still have Vicious Sickles right there in the endgame.
That's strange then. As someone who's beaten all the Divine Beasts and Ganon, completed all 120 shrines, gotten about 500 Korok Seeds and beaten all the sidequests, they seem to drop Demon Carvers all the time for me. Like, 99.9% of Yiga soldiers I encounter are wielding it, with about 0.1% still having the Vicious Sickle. Maybe it's tied to something else in the game?
They mainly drop demon carvers for me, too, and I've done far less. Only 113 shrines, and just over 160 korok seeds (and all the divine beasts, Master Sword, memories, and Hylian shield). And probably an embarrassingly low number of sidequests.
Dash Box I swear if I was a yiga member and link paid me 10k worth of cash. You'd damn well better believe he'd be my newest best friend. I mean what's Ganon gonna give me? 0.35€ an hour?
one of my favorite moments of botw is raiding the yiga clan hideout. its a perfect balance of stealth and stress, but adds lots of humor as well, with the whole room full of bananas, and a chest with one banana in the center of a room, with a forgotten chest lodged in the ground with a ruby in it. really shows their priorities
The best thing about this video is that the creator had to show us the entire fight, which took at least as long as the whole banana-buying part, even though it was such a poor display of skill.
These small thing that makes this game a GOTY worthy, like I was suspicious that this guy might be a Yiga clan because he sells banana while often the only time you got bananas is form defeated yiga clan. This logic-systemic game thing feels so obvious and simple, but it makes me so immerse in this game
Funny fact is you defeat that guy and only a small portion of the money is recovered haha. By the way, how did you dodge that attack at 0:46? That was the luck of the Gods hahahaha.
I managed to parry it once. One of my top 3 proudest parries. Number 1 goes to when I parried 2 Guardian blasts in one during the Final Trial and number 2 goes to when I parried a White Manned Lynal 4 times in a row while smacking it in-between the parries.
This just plays into my theory that the Yiga Clan started out as a banana cult, but that was too embarrassing of a reason to start a cult, so they decided to 'side' with Ganon instead.

My first encounter with the Yiga: I had just gotten done with my first visit to Kakariko Village, and I had just been told about the Yiga. I was riding my horse back to Dueling Peaks when a guy stopped me and said "Hey, wanna join the Yiga Clan?". I'm like, "Hey wait, that's the group of traitors they told me about back there, HELL no!" And then he got mad and poofed into a ninja and started attacking me. I freaked out, I seriously did not expect that! My next encounter was then with one of the guys that sits there cowering in the grass waiting for you to talk to them. I was like "Oh, somebody needs my help. Maybe it's a sidequest." She got up and was like "I need.... salmon....". I thought "....ok, I'll find some salmon then." Then she yelled "AND THE LIFE OF THE HERO!" with that scary little piano key sound they make when they turn on you. That's when I really freaked out. "I CAN'T TRUST ANYBODY ANYMORE!" D:
I had that same first encounter with that Yiga member. I haven't went to Kakariko yet, and I was on my way. Then the dialogue. I was like, "What for?" Then they tried to murder me. They failed. I was like "This guy tried to murder me. LOL" and then i went to go pick another fight.
