For those of you who went and actually put in the effort but still fell short, RESPECT. There was a number of people in my platoon that didn't make it, but one stands out in my mind. He gave it his all, but somewhere along the line, he started having extreme pain issues. After some examination, they found he had preexisting back and hip problems, so he was removed. He had the heart and mind for it, but not the body.

We had a female that was for lack of a better term, a bad b***h. Mentally and physically strong. She dislocated her kneecap on a run in the beginning of red phase. Went on crutches for a little bit and then came out of the gate swingin. On our last APFT before graduation she dislocated it again. She popped it back in and kept runnin. She was cryin her eyes out from the pain but she passed. She ended up getting medically chaptered in AIT sad to say.

Back in the day I went to Jackson for basic. I think it was my first or second night at reception I approached a female at the front desk and told her I wanted to quit. I was just homesick. Well being the nice person that she was she talked me into staying. I did stay and it was never brought up again. I did okay and now am a Veteran. Trust me it’s worth it guys and gals! Don’t quit!

its not always that or maybe they didnt see it that way for me, coming from florida, i have not experienced the cold, and went to basic in end of summer beginning of fall, was bad at pt (specifically the run) and was trying hard to pass (2017, started with 23 minute 2 mile) my closest was 16:56, then it got much much colder, went from 17 min 2 mile, to a 18 and a half minute 2 mile. my guess is that the CO and Drill Sgts thought i had given up and gave me either to recycle at beginning of red phase, or leave. i should have recycled but was mad since i was for an mos i didnt particularly want. Right now i am working out again to be able to go back in, making sure i dont go to mepps till i get my shit up past 70%

During basic training I was miserable, depressed although I was quite fit. Then I noticed how some guys were enjoying the training. After some introspection I realized I had chosen to be friends with a group who was always moaning about conditions. I actively made friends with those guys who had a more positive attitude - and suddenly I started having fun! I enjoyed the PT, the running, the drilling. So, a bit of advice: make friends with people with the right attitude and you will most probably be better off for it.

I went through Great Lakes Navy boot camp in 1965. The best advise I got was that you got out of the experience what you put into it, so I worked hard and got through all the PT (it was TOUGH). The lessons learned in the service I’ve carried with me into my seventh decade of life and it’s worked well.

Even if you decide to quit, you still have to stay for months, sometimes even years until they finish processing paperwork. We had a guy who was in basic for 16 months who decided he no longer wanted to train, and I heard from a friend he’s still there.

When I went through OSUT in Ft. Benning we had a few quit during reception. Going down range we had 12 people quit. The 12 people who quit had to get dragged along through training they watched us graduate. Just do yourself a favor to save yourself in the long run. DO NOT QUIT, DO NOT GIVE UP! You will be out casted, you will be stuck on all sorts of "fun stuff" just don't do it! Becoming an American Soldier is one of the best feelings that you did something many people can't or didn't want to do.

Mark technically you can just say I quit or I refuse to train during BCT. Various things can happen. The ones I seen in my platoon who refused to train the DS' talked with them to see what the problem is. The ones who quit watched us graduate and I assumed got sent to the Return Home Unit where they sit and wait for who knows how long. Maybe @Team Swartz has a better idea. I would not recommend quitting

Nailed it right on the head there! Your "why moment" aka your "oh shit" moment is completely normal it happens to everyone. Personally I got over being homesick by not talking about home so much and focused mainly on what I had to do that day. Your mind is gonna be in 10 000 different places you wont really even have time to think. We had a guy quit literally on day 2 of reception. No idea what happened to him. The Drills would always tell us, "THE FASTEST WAY OUT OF HERE PRIVATES, IS TO GRADUATE!" There was a holdover in reception that was there for over 15 weeks. If you quit, you become the lowest piece on the totem pole. Remember this phrase, "theyll get to you when they get to you." They become the lowest priority to process paperwork. There were a couple holdovers that stayed in our bay during training and we were told to avoid them like the plague. Attitude and who you associate with play a major factor and yes your Drills will notice this. I hung around with my bay leader. Dude was 35 and former Navy. Being that I was 26 at the time (my birthday was on day 0 lucky me right?) when the Drills saw us together they pretty much left us alone. SOUND! OFF! Dont piss off your Drills by not sounding off. The louder you are, the happier they are. Study. Study. Study. Study. Study. Study your blue book. "You can get smart. Or you can get strong!" Pretty self explanitory. I cant stress this enough, your Drill Sergeants are NOT your friends. They are your MENTORS!! This is the biggest thing that will help you in training and your Army career...RIGHT TIME. RIGHT PLACE. RIGHT UNIFORM.

About 3 years ago I joined the Louisiana National Guard. Towards the end of basic and beginning of AIT I passed out during a run twice. I was immediately told by doctors that I was gonna be discharged. I fought for months to stay in and was put in a hold over unit. It is not fun and games guys. You’re more likely to get home sooner if you finish training than being discharged. Listen to was DS Swartz is saying. Don’t quit, keep in mind that you’re only as strong as your weakest link so don’t forget to motivate your peers, and it does get better. I’m am going on a journey in the next year to try and rejoin so I can finish what I started. Good luck to everyone on their own journeys.

I can personally validate everything you are saying. In 2011 I arrived at Ft. Leonard Wood for basic training shortly after graduating high school I was supposed to be 31B Active and I completely broke down and quit on myself at reception. I was there for 10-11 weeks before I was sent home and I can say now at the age of 30 even with a college degree and certifications getting jobs or even an interview has been incredibly difficult even though I’ve never put down on job applications I was “in the military”. And coming from a family full of veterans and those still serving it’s a shameful feeling that never goes away. So from direct experience absolutely get through training the path I chose is no good in any way imaginable.

Sucks that I got a toxic company. When I was transfered from Fox to Charlie, it was much different. The drill Sgts actually cared for their trainees. I had a rough time with this situation. I had Scoliosis, and 4 fused vertebrae in my neck. I went to MEPS for both the Air Force, and the Navy, and was denied by both. At that point the Army guy wouldn't work with me. The Marines did. After a year of chiropractic treatment they got me a waiver! I'd been doing PT with the Dep the entire time, so I left for Parris Island immediately. Carrying the packs was my ultimate downfall. They destroyed my back, and the neck pain was absolute agony. I started out doing 18 pull ups after a few weeks of training I was only able to do 2, and my SDI sent me to medical the next day after seeing that, and I was discharged. It took me years to even begin to come to grips with it. Not making it still hurts.

MOST people you said it. But not all, it all depends the reasons why you are a hold over. Trust me, if they see you that you aren't mentally fit for whatever reason (home problems etc.) and you try to do something harmfull to yourself, they would send you home ASAP. I'm talking about 3 to 4 weeks to get you chaptered out. It all depends the reasons... They don't tell you that because they don't want a lot of people doing the same thing and "cheating" the system...

Tylor Lyons Hooahlujah!🙏🏼 I have to say this fist but consult your physician if needed. I’d suggest going KETO Diet and Intermittent Fasting... I went from 190lbs down to 163lbs in 2 months. Checkout Dr Berg, FledgeFitness and Thomas DeLauer for accurate info on the two. They are legit and back up their videos with scientific research and studies. They aren’t just regurgitating others advice and tips just to make money in a video.

I hung the phone up and went awol right then. Made it home in time to talk to him a bit before he died. I went back to ft benning after and turned myself in. Ft. Jackson 1983, one week before the “Superbowl” I was approached and had to report to my CO. They layed it out for me and said they were not confident that I would not pass the push-up phase of the PT test. They gave me two options, #1-Quit or #2-Recycle and I chose to Recycle. I was transferred to another BT and restarted from Day 1, when people found out that I was a Recycle I had so many recruits approaching me with questions of the training and I couldn’t talk about any of it. The upside was, that I was given extra time to work on my Push Ups, and I got alot of perks because I already passed all of the task training. So I was asked to do things that were not a shit detail but rather easy, it was the recruits who chose to “quit” after 3 weeks who had all the shit details and they were still there after I graduated….LOL😅 Stayed in for 8 years, hated to ETS but I just couldn’t get promoted after the DOD changed the point system and I was an E4 for 7 years. I went in as an E2 and my MOS was so desired no one E5 and above would not get out.

Was lucky. Started to do cross country at 15. I had plans to join the Army. I knew all about injuries and being careful. Did my basic in 93. Airborne was my favorite school. I was always told to slow down. I was always first in runs the first 4 years. After I got out of the Army/ I met a lot of teens who wanted to join. I would tell them to start running and when they were in basic. Don’t give it 100 percent. Don’t push too hard and pay attention to crouching or road marches. Years layer I met these teens who did well in the Army and thanked me for all of the tips.

One more thought I have, basic should be no strings attached you can quit whenever. I mean the military isn’t for everyone and those who it isn’t for shouldn’t have to worry about legal reprocussions or loosing potential job prospects because they couldn’t hack it.
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 8 месяцев назад
Trainees aren’t held against their will. One can quit but will be processed accordingly. Like buying a car or using your credit for whatever purchase you make, just because “YOU” decide you don’t want it anymore, doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences. You make a large purchase with credit and decide you don’t want the care anymore for example, you still owe the money and will reflect so on your credit report regardless if you made a less than smart decision. So, if one chooses to prematurely get discharged because they made a mistake, their discharge will reflect the reason or the choice they made to meet the requirements for a discharge. Failure to adapt, failure to complete active duty for training, mental health, etc…

In this day and age when i see videos like this that talk about people who fail or lets say quit trying at basic i find it shocking. In the world of utube where the military tells you exactly what is expected of you AND tons of sites like Team Swartz and veterans telling of there experiences in basic there should not be any real shock when you experience it yourself. I went into the Army before the world of internet and i went in thinking the worst like all hell will break loose and i waited and waited then all of a sudden IT's OVER. Trust me i'm not the type of guy who comprehends things quickly. I even had a small issue when i had to zero my weapon. Once i learned how to relax and breathe properly i qualified as an expert and i missed 2 shots towards the end because i got to confidant which is always a mistake. be humble in all you do. Fear is good to a point it keeps you alert and sharp.In today's Regular Army the benefits are way over the top then in the 80's even in the Nat. Guard today has great benefits not when i was in.Another not talked about benefit in the regular Army is things available to you in your off time.When i was in Europe there is the AFRC ( Armed forces recreation center) which is like a travel agency. they offer weekend or weekly trips all over Europe for very small cost. For example me and my roommate took a 10 day leave and stayed in there German Alps at an AFRC hotel for 19 dollars a night back in 1983 Sure that's along time ago but trust me back then civilians would pay at least 100 bucks a night. Bottom line don't go into training thinking a made a mistake. Think of all the doors and opportunities you will be experiencing with some of the greatest friends you can ever have. Many Guardsmen were in the regular Army first. I say experience both worlds if your heart is not into staying 20 plus years in the regular Army.I spent 9 years active and guard. One of my great regular Army friend/roommate retired not to long ago from the NY NG as a command SGT Major (CSM) Good luck

josiah arriaga Just do your best and learn everything. You won’t fail if you act like you give a F. There's a third reason you might not complete Basic Training : Failure of background check for a Security Clearance. About 4 or 5 weeks into Basic Training, we had a guy who failed the background check and he was removed from our training barracks. We never saw him again. I don't know if they gave him an opportunity to pick a different MOS that didn't required a security clearance or they allowed him to be discharged. All I know was that he wasn't training with us anymore.
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 10 месяцев назад
Depending on the reason but usually when that happens is because they lied on their application by not disclosing it at time of enlistment and usually results in an erroneous entry discharge or fraudulent discharge. If it’s disclosed but minor, a reclass to a non-clearance position will be offered. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

We got our phones for 5 minutes to let our families know that we’re graduating but he chose not to hand his phone back in. He got caught and he was offered a day 0 restart for the 22 week cycle (we were one of the last 14 week cycles) but he refused to restart so they chaptered him instead and I think he ended up staying there longer. I was never a fan of him anyways.

Trafford Hunt That would be rough to restart from day 0 and in my opinion too harsh of a punishment. But I get the theory behind the DS’s logic. Team Swartz I kinda just watched to view the comments hahaha. But he didn’t need to be chaptered out if he would only restart. He was also caught steeling other trainees laundry and he had no sense of decency or respect throughout the cycle. Our DS’s would always warn us about the things we could do to get us restarted but he thought he wouldn’t get caught so he got offered a restart so he could relearn the army values. Even though he brought it all on himself, it’s a shame that he marched to honor hill with us but then he made a decision that he’s gonna regret forever. I trained British Army recruits, inevitably some will leave. The Army is a unique environment and not everyone is suited to that life. We did not keep anyone who did not want to be there.

Do not refuse to train. I made it through first try at Fort Benning but the people that refused to train were told that they will get recycled for the entirety of their contract. 3 years of being a holdover, no phone.

Re-Re-Re-Recycled! But actually, You won't. Due to COVID getting so many recycled, even those who definitely need to be recycled get through. Just finished BCT at Fort Jackson. Of course, you can quit, or break your leg.

@Nathan-jh1ho
@Nathan-jh1ho 3 года назад
@@christynguyen3427 when I was there, they will make sure you do qualify. If that means giving you fully loaded mags instead of 10 or 20rd ones. But they've changed up rifle qual, so IDK. The ones back then was very easy to pass, if your rifle is actually zeroed

I went in 91. First week sucked. But then you set a goal. Ok I will do another week. Each week will get easier. You will have new friends week 5 you won't even be counting anymore. We had shark attack and I remember thinking what f was I thinking. Looking back we really didn't get messed with by the DI's reason being they have scheduled training to get you to. They can't waste half an hour messing with you.

Back when I went through Basic,86/87, if you failed PT,they'd put you in, Remedial PT.I remember when two guys broke down and threatened to kill themselves.The Drill Sergeants were ALL OVER them.I also remember a couple of guys who were left behind behind from the previous BCT class because they were waiting for their AIT school to have enough people to fill out the roster.
