Life was hell on metropolol . Was on 25 mg with sweats, chills, memory loss, kidney failure & nightmares. The cardiologist said double it. along with 2 more heart pills. Jabbering day & nite, no sleep. Pharmacist told me how to get off & life is good. I know where I am & who I am, I can also sign my name!!! Doctors are pill pushers,
I think all medicines for hypertension have side effects, in d long run it will manifest in our body, mental & emotional state of health. Bad if it will be d culprit to kidney, liver & other organ disorder. I think better go to natural healing, look at seniors who lives in the farm and eats fresh fruits & veg, fresh air, no stress lifestyle and at peace because of spiritual closeness to God they live much longer, this is my observation of people living in cities compared to those living close to nature.
@@sydneykriegshauser2538 Yes had that too. It is dangerous because blood pressure and heart can get out of control. So if you reduce do it in small increments
Been on this for a month now and it has saved my life! I was going 180-190 every other hour and now I’m down to less then 100 all day and around 58-78 resting. On it for SVT here.
I've been on it a while now and I only went from 160 to 130 an that's cu I stopped doing meth 😅🤷 but sometimes I get up to 223 what dose did you have for that time period
@@raeinorshine_06 fosho yea it's been a few years now i was doing it every day stopped a while and went back to it ida dropped about a gram a day or so but I'm on 100mg extended release and it's been a few months now since like November I started 25 then 50 then 100 but I drink an godly amount of coffee so maybe it's my fault 🤔 lol I'll stick to it and see what happens haha thank you for this lmao fr cuz I was bouta stop it 🤣🤫
I stopped taking my Metoprolol. Because of side effects were so bad it was ruining my ADLs. Since I stopped taking it I can breathe better I have no more chest pains or arm pains. I can sleep through the night now with no night terrors. I can go up and down steps right now. I can ride in a car without shaking and panic attacks. And I don't wake up with any headaches anymore. And my ears stop bleeding. I occasionally wake up with my ears bleeding. I take my husband's medicine now which is a lifesaver for me. After they diagnosed me with Afib they tried up my Metoprolol is what got me sick worst. The fact that I can sleep better now. Is a game changer.
I been taking this medication for Afib and tachy I’ve missed 2 days, 2 doses, this video didnt really help. Had issues with the doctor and pharmacy back and forth but Thank goodness I get my refill tomorrow.
If you don't want to be on it tell him! It's your body! Unless you have a major reason to be on it. My Dr. just prescribed it for me (iFIB) and I have never had pains or health problems in 70 years! Haven't gotten the prescription yet and won't take it after researching it for myself! Dr. never explain anything about side effects!! I will not create a medical problem for myself that I didn't have originally. Diet can correct most anything. Common practice is to give them statins!
I don't know about others, but if I miss a dose my heart gets a bit grumpy (LOL) for a lack of a better term. But if I take it a bit sooner, it's ok, no gaps! I even talked to my DR a couple of days ago, and asked can I take 1/2 25mg every 8 hours instead of 1/2 every 12 hours, he said absolutely! So now I take roughly 36mg a day (instead of 25mg), or 1/2 X 3, since it's the quick release/acting tartrate, and life is good! No more grumpy heart! :) And by "grumpy heart" I mean, my heart didn't like the gaps, or me missing a dose, it would act up a bit. I have WPW, (...and a catheter ablation was performed) and WAS having bad (220+ BPM!) tachycardias! Now I get a bit of AFIB, controlled by Metoprolol! :) *UPDATE:* Well, that was then, NOW I still have AFIB, but had an incident where it (the 150 or so BPM)lasted over 48 hours! Now here is the low down on this. I had watched videos, and I could have sworn, somewhere in one or two of them, I got the impression, that SOMETIMES people experience sustained episodes of AFIB. Well, I decided I would go to ER on Sunday, if they didn't go away, or if my heart didn't get back to a normal beat. They were like WHY did you wait so long????? I explained. THEN, they explained! If you wait too long, even more than a 1/4 hour sometimes, BLOOD CLOTS can form!!!!! HOLY SHIT I thought, i went 48 hours!!!!! So, NOW I am on a blood thinner until further notice, and I have to check my BP and BPM very time I am supposed to take a Metoprolol, and IF the SYS BP is below 95, OR my BPM are below 55, HOLD, don't take the pill until things improve. It has taken up to a couple of hours a few times, so I get up and stay busy for awhile to work it out, so to speak.
Well if your heart rate was going up to 220+ even with an ablation then by all means you need some help in controlling the rate!! ?#GoodGriefCharlieBrown!😜 My heart rate is usually around 70-75 without metoprolol. So I Stopped taking it several months ago and feel a LOT better. I am not tired all the dang time anymore! Yay! Lisinoprel of 10 mgs per day works fine in controlling my blood pressure. Also adding *magnesium* is a game changer for sure!!😉😎
@@dannyd3394 I had already started taking only half of the dose prescribed for me which was 25 mgs. It made my heart rate too slow and I felt very tired all the dang time! Then after a bit I triedseein g what would happen if I skipped taking any of the drug at all. Would my heart rate zoar back up?🤔 Would my blood pressure increase?🤔 Turns out I had to increase my blood pressure medication just a bit. I take 10 mgs of Lisinopril, and it is controlled fine. My heart rate did NOT go crazy at all. It's usually around 70-75 bpm which is completely normal!😉 On a side-note: The reason I was prescribed metoprolol in the first place was because I had developed Afib. Although I do Not take the metoprolol anymore I DO take a blood thinner every single day to prevent blood-clot! AFib can cause your blood to to clot during an episode... Which can lead to Stroke! I am NOT willing to take a chance on That!!😉
Taken this many years. It causes no symptoms or reactions in my case, and I have no idea if it ever helped me in any way. I tend to have little reaction from drugs. Once in the hospital for extremely severe pain from a kidney stone, they gave me morphine. It did absolutely nothing, and did not diminish the pain in the least. I mean ZIP, nada.
I have a naturally high tolerance to opiates, also. I don't know if it is quite as high as yours, but...I have also taken metoprolol and had no problems with it.
Never had issues with it as well. I was on it for 8 years, off 4 years then back on it again but 12.5mg because I got older, Gained weight and having palpitations, pvcs. Losing weight currently and I'm doing well with that drug. Getting off of it once I lose weight.
To see if my metoprolol succinate was causing side effects my doctor took me off for five days. My heartbeat was not steady and my BP went up a little. Went back to taking my pills.
Do doctors take you off because you’re bp is fine & you don’t need it anymore or because if you don’t take the medicine it can be bad because you’re bp can be to high because of the medicine?
@@dannyd3394 To be truthful, i could have stopped taking my pills without my doctors permission. It was strictly to see if the pill was causing the side effects.
what happens if you miss 1 dose? nothing, 4-5 doses? then your light headedness clears up and you stop stumbling. I've missed about 400 doses now and don't miss them at all.
Glad to hear you got off it. I am on very low dosage (12.5mg), just yesterday I tried to skip and observe if I could get off it. I felt good for most of the day but by evening my resting heart rate got upto 90, so I panicked and resumed. Hope you could shed some light on your process.
@@mazikeen1022 I have been off metoprolol for several months now. I feel much better. Try adding a good quality magnesium supplement and I bet it helps bunches with your anxiety!!😊
Took the medicine for 11 days and stopped. I felt better in 24 hours. No fatigue, itching, joint pain, nausea, plus my libido came back. My blood pressure is lower now. We'll see about the afib. Quality of life over quantity of life. Death will come in the end. The real concern is if I die once and live twice or live once and die twice.
Loved one with neuromuscular illnes was put on tropol xl, was diastrous, no sleeo, blurred vision, hallucinations, nightmares, nerve pain, muscle spasms, halted digestion, and hunger, weaned off then all hell broke loose, neck veins engourged when cardiologist put right back on it and doubled the heart med. Took 5 days to kill my loved one at only 52. My heart is crushed💔💔💔 i hope there,'s hell to pay👹🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I am new to taking Metoprolol once daily for VTAC, which is a terrifying sensation. Since starting, I've been slower and more tired than usual, and I haven't exercised for fear of increasing my heart rate.
Hello, how are you doing now. I advice to take it slow on working out. Try to take baby steps and see how your body responds. Also, it might have something to do with the dosage Dr’s gave you. How are you doing now?
@@amidfofanah9748 thanks for asking. I still feel the same. A bit active as usual, but no workouts at all... no weights and no running. I have a stress test scheduled next.
@@seeemsee Hope and pray all works out and the Dr’s will find a resolution. I think I might have to get a stress test done as well, I noticed when I feel stressed my heart rate increased and it takes awhile for it to go down so I take my med early. Also, do you take the 25mg, 50mg or 100? And how’s your sleep?
@@amidfofanah9748 my dose is 50mg once per day (for about four months now). My sleep has actually never been great, but I aim for 7 hours and generally function well through the day. Cheers!
Since taking this medication I experience constipation which led to me developing a hernia.. I can't sleep well at all, and I am more depressed and anxious then I ever was. I also have a skin problem. The change of skin color from the palm of my hand to the top of it has a very defined border. Kind of like what you would see on a burn victim.
@@dannyd3394 Metroprolol lowers your heart beat. I was told that if you stop taking it cold turkey your heart beat could increase to a rate that is to fast until your body has a chance to adjust. A faster heart rate might increase your blood pressure. It is recommended that you taper off to avoid this issue.
@@dannyd3394 I don't know what your dosage is. Personally, I was taking 50mg once a day. I starting taking 25mg for a week, then 12.5 for the 2nd week. I don't remember having any issues.
I'm not even going to watch this video. This medication nearly killed me. Swollen throat, shortness of breath, tremendous weight gain, swelling of legs, water retention. The dimwit doctor that prescribed this to me wasn't able to identify the side affects. Eventually, I ended up in the hospital with heart attack symtoms. Even those dildoes didn't recognise what was happening. Once I read the side effects, I immediately stopped taking it and instantly became well. Funny, even my blood pressure dropoped and this was a blood pressure pill. Thanks Daniel Hoffer of Sharp Rees Stealy Clinic in El Cajon, California!
It was prescribed to me after I went to the hospital with AFib. Along with 3 other scrips. It had the exact same side effects on me, so I stopped taking it to. Feeling much better without it.
I didn't experience any of those horrible side effects, thank goodness, but it made me so frigging tired all the damn time!? And it really does NOT work well on my BP. I have another med that controls my BP very well. So, what I did at first was I lowered my dose by half, and then Quit the drug completely about 2 weeks ago! Feel much more like my old self these days!!😉
Damn really? I'm on this medication & I'm fine & it's actually helping me with my hypertension. Crazy how other people's bodies just react so differently. Good luck to you though
@@Jonny_956 is it bad if you don’t take it the pill because the medicine make your bp higher if you don’t take it while you were already on? Or because just the persons bp is just to high?
I lost my hair bald spots everywhere and it keeps falling out in spite of special shampoos which are expensive but have to keep taking it cause I have high blood pressure
I was able to find a well hidden study in 2011 that showed 100% of people of any age or gender taking Metoprolol became diabetic within one year of starting the drug. It took me several months to wean myself off of it because stopping it abruptly caused my heart to skip beats, race and in general go nuts. I later learned that the whole problem with my heart (AFIB), which caused me two strokes was the pain meds prescribed by doctors to treat back & knee issues caused by a drunk ramming my car with a 15 passenger van at over 70 MPH. I also discovered that taking 500 mg's of magnesium dissolving the tablet in my mouth, crushing the crystals, letting them break down in saliva for 15 minutes or so gets the magnesium absorbed in my mouth without affecting my bowels not only stopped the AFIB but lowered my BP to a healthy level, since Magnesium, known as the "MASTER MINERAL" is involved in several hundred critical body functions. Many involving the cardiovascular system.
Nope. That Can't be True. I have taken metoprolol for over two years now and my blood sugar is well within the normal range!!😉 (But I totally Agree with you about the benefits of Magnesium!)
@@TalkingGIJoe Yes. I agree. In fact I came across a new study of metoprolol with the results published in 2018. It showed that actually this medication did NOT make any significant difference in heart attack, the severity of a heart attack, or surviving a heart attack. The results involved thousands of people over several years. The article stated that the results were very surprising as that's the main reason most doctors prescribe this medicine! The conclusion was that doctors really need to consider this when thinking of prescribing metoprolol!!
Interesting...I've been taking this for 1 year and I am now a pre diabetic. I eat almost zero carbs & sugar. 19 BMI I was shocked! Just happened to run across your post, thank you! It seems to make me super fatigued, bed to couch. My BP was 96/72 at the Dr yesterday.
I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one. Is he saying, take a catch-up dose as well as your regularly scheduled pill, or don’t take a catch-up and just resume the next day with your normal dose. After hearing it twice, I think he means the latter-- but, yes, it was unclear. In a real setting, though, the patient would have him reformulate the answer.
Can you take metoprolol succinate ER every 22 or 20 hours instead of every 24? I feel like I'm dying every single day as the clock reaches my time to dose, and it's not improving with time. Surely people metabolize this drug slightly differently, right? I have to take it early on a regular basis, and am afraid that may cause problems. Not due to any bad od experiences, but due to the average half-life of this drug.
Ask your dr. about changing you to Metoprolol Tartrate (you take it twice a day). It worked much better for me than the once a day extended release version. 👍
I’m the same. About 2-ish hours before my next 24-hour dose, my heart rate starts going back up higher than what it usually is when I’m on Metroprolol Succinate. I don’t think mine lasts the full 24 hours either.
I just started taking 25mg of metoprolol once a day for hypertension 4 days ago. Im 28 and my heart itches every time i feel digestion now. Has anyone else felt actual sensations in your heart that you didnt before taking metoprolol? Does this go away?
I should update this! I was taking too much metoprolol! I went down from 18.75 mg to 12.5 mg and the pain went away! I only get it when I take my pill now. On 18.75mg, my heart rate was slowed to the point that it couldn't keep up with the oxygen demand of my body, and I was experiencing unstable angina chest pain. Very dangerous! Luckily I'm 28, but you might not be, so this is why it happened; I quit alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, kratom, and other supplements when I was prescribed metoprolol, and my lifestyle changes lowered my BP making me no longer fit to take that dose of metoprolol! If I would've kept taking that dose, I would've eventually been very hurt, if not killed. Be careful on this drug guys!
I should mention; i went down from 25mg to 18.75mg within the first 4 days of taking metoprolol succinate ER for aura migraines and stroke level BP. Once that was under control, it was clear 25mg was too much.
@@AbbadonOfTheKeyPlease look into magnesium. Many are deficient and it helps with so much stuff. You may be able to come off completely with magnesium.

If you take it at noon and midnight, miss midnight, then take it at noon the next day. If you simply miss taking it by an hour or two, and suddenly remember, take it. If it is more than 1/2 of the time gone between does and you remember, wait until the next time you should take it. They basically don't want us to "double up" the does. Metoprolol has a "half life " if you will, of 3-7 hours, meaning it will be half OUT of your system in 3 to 7 hours, this is the quick acting Metoprolol, the TARTRATE. I THINK this exists at all, to make it easier to clear you so the hospital can use THEIR FAVORITE if need be, like if you go to ER in the middle of the night, they don't have to wait so long to clear your med so they can use what they NEED to at that time. Too much of these kinds of drugs can reduce your heart rate to dangerous levels. *_ALL OF WHAT I HAVE SAID IS PARAPHRASED FROM READING DETAILS AND DOCTORS EXPLANATIONS!_* *_CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU STILL DON'T GET IT!_*
