As a Vegas resident for the last 20 years, I can say the biggest issue here is cost. And the disconnect with the main stream media is how they are describing economy. Rent and everything went crazy during pandemic and its comes down to corporate greediness and price gorging. We all still remember and experience the rising prices in real time the last 3 years. It will boil down to how people interpreted who's responsible for prices going up. And the blame is all over the place...
@@mattvaldez2438 Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "the economy is good" because that statement obscures the very class bias it's laden with. Since my interests are with the lower rung of the working class, affordability is all I'm really concerned with and in terms of affordability for said people, yeah markets suck right now. We need the goods and services working class people depend on to be more affordable and there's very little a president can do to change this. Congress and Governors certainly can though.
@@christopherchilton-smith6482 this was a high quality and nuanced take - sorry, i was being a bit of a jackass. i feel like this election is about to get stolen under the noses of democrats and stuff like this episode just bother me so much because the conversations always come off as out of touch
What, POTUS can't wave magic wand & lower grocery, gas & housing prices? 🥴 Decades of readily available/reliable info re: economic & market basics, yet same complaint 🤯 (If I were POTUS, top 2 priorities would be raising minimum wage to $12/hr & bolstering consumer protection & investigations into price-gouging & predatory practices.)
This is a very very Doomer piece by the NYT, but I don't think it's incorrect. I'm a Vegas democrat, but I just don't know at all. I feel like it gets redder in redder every year.
Yeah, I was wondering abt landlord/tenant laws in county &/or state. AFAIK, monthly rent increase permitted only if month-to-month rental. I'm also used to law or lease provision that kinda caps rent increase at renewal (unless extraordinary circumstances).
I know most of these people are not college graduated. But they need to learn what policies Trump and Harris is offering and have done in the past. Look at their past record. Then they will see which party is working for them
I am an over 50, college educated business owner. Things in the 30 years i have lived here have never been better! The demographic disgussesed is just one piece of the story. How many people at the ball park are like me? There are a lot of die-hard MAGAs out here who say it's the economy that are doing just fine.
Nothing infuriates me more than realizing that the daily is once again wasting my time interviewing a 17 year old rather than reporting on the big picture
Why don't you explain what drives up the costs of housing. It's Greed of the people like Trump's Secretary of Treasury Steve Manucin who bought up Millions of houses along with other Billionaires who Trump gave huge tax cuts too. Apartments are also owned by Billionaires and have raised prices to almost double. So I hope they Vote for Harris because Trump is all in with Billionaires not working class people.
NYT is soooo scared of not being fair and balanced to those who are neither fair nor balanced - Business. 330 Million Americans playing The Game of Life. The One Percent playing Monopoly. And MAGA Congress making the rules for ... Monopoly.
Yup, problems re: private equity/corp ownership of single & multi-residential buildings only going to increase. W/ millions or billions in capital, corp entities will squeeze out individual buyers &/or artificially inflate housing prices.
This string heavy version of The Daily theme song slaps; great arrangement. Is there a stand alone and longer version of this? I would love to have it on my playlist.
For those complaining about the other party, go read the CNN article on the situation in Gaza, or Ukraine, or Sudan, or the people in Eastern europe whose home was swept away by the Sept. floods, Americans are so lucky to be able to compllain about owninng a house,
The podcast is about the cookie cutter homes that are financially unaffordable. I think it's the perfect illustration of the empty promises that this area represents these days.
Proud “ not college, educated“ here, voting for Trump based on the economy. Did I mention that I am not college educated. NYT Forcefully putting the “L” in Liberal.
You don't have to college educated but you have to be educated vocational or technical to compete with laborers from ither countries. This is one of the push from Democrats since Obama. Strengthen the labor class. Trump only looks out for billionaires and gives tax handouts to middle class and poor people of our nation.
IMHO, college degree was important decades ago (esp pre-internet), but is overrated in most cases today. (Don't get me started on scammy unis) There is difference betn formal vs RL education -- one doesn't need college degree to understand basic economic realities, but factual/reliable info IS critical. I'm not gonna argue abt your political decision. But do ask that you do quick google re: what folks are saying abt Trump's plans. 'No taxes on tips' is too flippant -- from both parties -- when folks are struggling across the US. 🇺🇸
