I think that the Astrodome should just be renovated, but keep everything intact and then re-add seats and restore the original scoreboard, making it a tourist attraction similar to the Colosseum.
That area isn't prime real estate. Just look across where Astro-world was. It's dirt and grass still. If it was prime. Something would have been built there and the surrounding area years ago.
The Houston Astrodome shouldn’t die as it’s an absolutely Iconic venue ,I enjoy you’re channel Bro but let’s be honest , you would bulldoze the Roman Coliseum if you could. Am I right …..
the thing is roman colisseum is a major tourist attraction and ppl actually would pay to go to that place. Would ppl want to go in and pay to look at an abandoned astrodome? Also with so many spaces for parking theres nothing else around it that can attract ppl from coming there aside from ppl watching football at the NRG stadium.
@@eddietran5803 I was sarcastically asking a broader point , D.G. Really doesn’t appreciate many stadiums that are older than 10 years. Sometimes I wonder if the stadium building lobby has him on the payroll 😂…
Do a video on the Roman Colosseum. It is abandoned and in disrepair and should have been torn down 2,000 years ago. It was great when it was used for gladiatorial combat but now it just sits there. They could use the space for a parking garage or something. 😀
That'll never happen. The building is just way too historic, and you'd have riots galore, while people would literally chain themselves to it, if that's what it took to preserve the place I'm sure! L.O.L.!
One of my absolute favorite PPVs took place there in 2001, WrestleMania 17 but the WWF/E in 2001, lt’d be an absolute shame if the Astrodome doesn’t get used again in the future.
I went to see the Astros play the St Louis Cardinals back in August of 1985, while on a trip to Houston with my Family. My Father's friend and future co worker in Houston bought us good tickets and we all went to see the Astros in the middle of a huge thunderstorm. I'll never forget the Astrodome, because I was there. I still thank the late Carlos Nava for the tickets. He was awesome!!
I don’t think Ginger understands that the Astrodome is a historic landmark it can’t be demolished because of its significant place in sports and American history. If I owned the Astros I would renovate the Dome and move them back home but this is probably impossible. I really hope the Astrodome is saved because it really is a cool stadium and I wish it was still used for sporting events.
Imagine if even an XFL or USFL team could hold games there, that would be better than nothing although they’d probably have a lot of reconfiguration to do to accommodate for a football team since it’s more designed for baseball. I think that would be pretty cool.
The Civiv Arena was (maybe) the first retractable domed arena. It hurt cutting her down - tons of history. But we don't have a rotten shell laying there taking up space and being a potential hazard.
The only reason it isn't demolished is bc it's a Historic landmark. I honestly think a park or concert venue renovation would be the best thing for it.
NRG Stadium was completed in 2002, in time for the Texans' first season. I enjoy your videos, but you really do need to slow down and get your facts right. There are many mistakes in every single video. Please take your time and stop rushing to crank out content every day.
She was the first of her kind and should be restored to her original glory! or taken piece by piece shipped to the baseball hall of fame and rebuilt there some place because like I said she was the first of her kind.
I was thinking the owners of the astrodome could fix it up and the Astros play a few home games a year in the astrodome and have like a throwback night but that may not work because it’s so old
To me it has always been an easy answer. Everything is ripped out. Rent it to Hollywood as the worlds largest sound stage. You can make a whole movie there and never have rain issues. Largest green screen in the world. Easy money
There's been a number of people come along with different development proposals. They've talked about making it a hotel/shopping complex, an amusement park, a museum, a park, etc. The thing is, nobody has the money to execute those proposals LOL. You can have all the ideas you want. BTW there's nothing wrong with NRG. Stylistically it's not great but it's a pretty good place to watch a game...if you can afford to go to one.
personally i would gut the building and build hotel rooms on the outer ring of the dome like at the sky dome except it would go all the way around plus bars and restaurants , and nrg park is a perfect location for a hotel with all the conference halls there. in the center build a new arena for the rockets and possible nhl relocation team.
I grew up in that Dome. I worked as a clubhouse boy from 1980-1983. I knew every passage-way and even got to see Judge Roy Hofheinz's personal hotel room and there is a bowling alley and movie theater inside!
also one thing that you forgot too mention is that the astrodome cant be demolished because in 2019 it was proclaimed as a historical site. & when its proclaimed as a historical site the chances are very slim for demolition & besides another thing that was one of the reasons why it wasnt demolished before being procailmed as a historical site, demolition was very expensive that it was even speculated that the cost of demolishing the astrodome came too a whopping 500 million dollars, equally as much money as of building a brand new stadium. I was born in houston & yes many people love the astrodome & im optimistic on renovating it again. Hope this info was useful but well good vid anyway
How about turning it into something crazy and unique. Leave the roof framework, but take out all the roof panels. Rip up the floor and put in natural exotic trees and plants. Turn it into a giant arboretum.
As a Pittsburgh sports fan, I couldn't agree with you more. The Civic Arena was a groundbreaking arena with a retractable roof. We had TONS of memories there, but now the silver roof is made in to Christmas ornaments. Better fate than being a rusting shell.
This guy doe’s not know what he is talking about. First he says NRG was built in 2004 wrong it was built in 2002. Then he says I don’t know why they did not tear it down when the Astros left for Minute Maid Park. They could not do to the Houston Rodeo and it’s a historical landmark it can’t be torn down even if they wanted to. Then he says the floor is dirt now lol know it’s not I was just in the Astrodome a year a go I work at NRG park.
I think the Astros should move back into the astrodome since this stadium matches the space age theme of the team unlike the ugly minute maid park which is designed to look like a historic building and I actually want to see Minute Maid park demolished so Union Station can be restored as a passenger rail station.
I was just thinking of this last night, and while it surely won't happen, I can't help but imagine it: When the Detroit Tigers left Tiger Stadium in 1999, there was the same talks about what to do with it. In 2001 it hosted a independent professional game to see if having a Frontier League team would fare there. They ultimately didn't go further with that, but perhaps it would work in the Astrodome. The team, luke it was suggested in Detroit, would play at home when the Astros are on the road. Again, I already know it's a far-out idea, so yo don't have to tell me how unrealistic it is. But I'm interested in hearing from others who would like to imagine this.
Top Ten Things to do with the Houston Astrodome- 10. Shrine to Jose Cruz 9. Like Houston Summit turn to place of worship. Have fans pray for longer purgatory for Bud Adams. 8. Change to hockey rink. Lure NHL franchise there. 7. Hurricane Katrina refugee reunion center 6. Revive House of Pain motif by allowing the mafia to store dead bodies there. 5. Round the clock rodeo 4. Nay, round the clock "Rock and Roll Rodeo" 3. Put back the old scoreboard. Charge admission to see that shooting cowboy and grunting bull go nuts 2. Revive Bluebonnet Bowl 1. Keep it the Eighth Wonder of the World with four words- "World's Largest Strip Joint!"
Exactly I had NO IDEA it was right next to NRG ….you would never know it …it’s literally on top of it …..but the astrodome ……..yes refurbish and rebuild
The only reason I continue to sub to this channel is because of the inaccuracies. This time the culprit is saying NRG opened in 2006...when it was 2002. No research done once again. Also, you remember the days of the Astrodome? Aren't you, like, 24?
It's hard to listen to someone who is so cynical about a building he has never been inside of. It basically put Houston on the international map, as the city was simultaneously leading the mission to the moon. Although not perfect, as any pioneering structure would inherently be, it is still astonishing to walk inside and experience its fascinating roof structure. And, it was hand designed by local engineers without the aid of any computers. Its necessity to be successful resulted in it being constructed with specifications and materials far above normal standards. It would have to painstakingly deconstructed with cranes because implosion would be insufficient enough to implode the roof. I have personally visited its inside in recent years and it is still in remarkable structural condition. It will outlast any current thrown-together stadium and, will have a great future ahead, with a little imagination.
I'm genuinely shocked that the ASTRO dome still exists... They should absolutely tear down that dump. Renovate..😂..Yeah right.. We should start a gofundme to put the ASTRO dome out of its misery with DG as our spokesman
if I were a Texas oil billionaire I would buy the joint and turn it into the world's largest gym and smoothie bar. I would put the leg equipment in the upper deck that way you have to walk down, all the way down to leave
If it was the first of its kind to make history why would you delete it or completely demolish it??? That’s like saying in 40 years let’s demolish and delete the demon 170 from history
What an over the top negative take. Houston is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. There is need for many things, schools, hotels etc… With some imagination the dome could easily be repurposed ; gut the seats add hotel rooms, retail, restaurants, the aforementioned botanical garden, satellite campuses for the nearby colleges, maybe even a NASA science academy. It’s centrally located so it would be a great meeting place. One item not mentioned in the video - there is a light rail station across the street so it would be convenient. The narrator keeps on saying that it’s ugly. I don’t see that. It’s iconic and the exterior could be cleaned up and restored to its previous glory.
Yeah, you need to take a look around the area. It's a shit-hole. The Astro-world complex is STILL a vacant dirt and grass lot for a reason. If the area was remotely prime real-estate there would been a build up of the area, including the Astrodome years ago along with everything else in the Houston area. Face it, the transformation of downtown pushed out low income people into areas like where the Astrodome currently sits. No one wants to invest there.
Been to many Astros games at the Astrodome and man I was always fascinated by it. It’s a Texan thing to never let anything die and I was shocked when they closed AstroWorld right across the street. This video is about 10 minutes too young, how many different adjectives did he need to describe how much he didn’t like it, edit your videos better bro!
They should demolish the stadium and build a new football stadium better than the one that is there now, it's Houston, Texas, they have money for those things.
I enjoy watching your videos but you got a decent amount of facts wrong in this video. Respectfully, consider doing real research instead of babbling off on your on opinion and making things up. Here are a few corrections for your future reference: -NRG stadium was not built in 2006. -There are still seats remaining in the upper deck. They have to stay there, It was included in the no demolition clause when it was placed on the national register of historical places. - The floor of the Astrodome is concrete, not dirt. -The interior is not gutted, the only things that have been removed is the majority of the seats, the field, and the exterior ramps originally built in 1989. Virtually everything else is intact. -The reason the Astrodome still stands is not because people "don't want to part with it", rather because it is a Texas historical landmark and cannot be torn down. You also claim that the building is "not doing well at all" yet studies in 2021 show the building is solid as a rock structurally. This is shown on the astrodome conservancy website.
