Bertalan, this video was captivating. You totally articulated my own internal conflicts - torn between fear and curiosity - of learning about my own genome! And really liked how you clarified the difference between what Dante Labs does and other places like 23andMe. Love what you're doing on this channel - let me know if you'd ever like to put together a collab of some kind!

Thank you so much for the feedback, David! I'm very glad it was helpful and the collab idea sounds great too!

You have pointed out the medical applications nicely. What I am using this whole genome testing for is genetic genealogy. My goal is to get every living paternal line and maternal line from my countries of interest (based on my family tree) tested with this type of top level test. By doing this we can use the raw data to compare with others around the world and recreate the connections that are long forgotten now. It is extremely exciting to be involved in this type of research. And maybe I will also pay attention to the medical applications down the road. For those interested, you want the 30X test that Dante offers. Full price is currently $599. But if you catch a sale that can be way less. Even full price is a bargain compared to years past. I did a video on how we use it for genealogy, if you are interested.

I think Invitae Corp. is the best company to sequence the human genome. They have a great platform

Very cool, planning to do the same sometime in the future! Did it get any cheaper/more robust in the meanwhile? 3.5 years later I would assume so. :)) How accurate is consumer genome sequencing? I.e. how likely is it that they've made some errors for some nucleotides? Also can you post-hoc submit your genome to get the newest interpretation of your genome now that you have it? Finally, how do you store it? Cold storage, USB flash?

How did you manage to get the results? I have been waiting since November 2018. Three test failed/lost and Dante labs have had the last sample since the beginning of March...

Hi Nick! I've received emails from other users with the same experience so I see this must be an issue for Dante Labs but I can only share my own experience and I got the results after about 8 weeks. I'm sorry you didn't experience the same.

I would like you to do a follow up video on the privacy/ethical considerations. It is my understanding that you more or less give up your rights to your 23andme samples/info. I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of a Henrietta Lacks situation...

You've convinced me genome sequencing is still a vanity project. It seemed you learned nothing you did not already know.

You're more than wrong. You can know genes you have that can give you cancer and other diseases in the future and knowing that, change your life style and do more rutinary checks to catch them on time if they present.

i'm a bit hesitant to do it because i have done already 23andme (old version in 2012 with many traits, health risks etc), promethease , ancestry, 23andme and the genographic project... thing is all the risks they give you is not sure and some genes are still unknown and it seems a still vague for me...as well you have 250gb of data you can't upload to other website to have more tools etc. so you have all your dna and then what? what is the value compared to 23andme? also the sequencing format may change in the future and you would have to do it again or modify a 250gb to a new format.... can you think of something useful for me i missed ? many thx
@Medicalfuturist
@Medicalfuturist 5 лет назад
Don't mix up the service companies like 23andme do and whole genome sequencing. I received completely different reports and your whole genome doesn't change over time therefore you only have to do it once. My two cents here.
