Blake from our mountain biking sister channel, @gmbn, has got a pretty powerful sprint! So we set him a challenge, could he win a road race with the help of our GCN duo, Conor and Hank? Could his mighty sprint steal them the win in the last lap or has he bitten off more than he can chew?

@@TwistedOnyx369 I mostly ride enduro MTB and bought a value road bike to stay in shape about a year ago after injuring my wrists on the MTB. I see it like this: on the MTB I feel like a mountain goat and on the road bike I feel like a gazelle. I realized I need both to blow off some steam.

@@Robin_Hood381 That's really cool! I love riding MTB (only tried XC) and I find that just a few miles on the trails gets the endorphins up. Riding MTB also equates to better bike handling and confidence on the road for me.

@@Robin_Hood381this is my experience as well coming from mountain biking. More on xc so it's a bit close to road biking, but man the top speeds is different. Mountain biking for exploring the woods while road biking from city to city for traveling. Definitely fun, though my wallet initially took a hit buying two bikes 😅

@@gcn Seeing him on your videos does not give the full impression of just how fast he is. I thought I would try a 'half feather' up Bealach na Ba. He has the KoM at 24:44, so how about aiming for under 50 minutes. In effect twice his time....nope just over an hour. In fact, riding back down, I was not much faster than he was riding up!

Yes, ofc we like those GCN+GMBN mix vids. In real life pretty much every cyclist I ride with owns and uses both road and some type of MTB bike. Sure you might prefer one or the other but almost never it will be like you love MTB and hate road or the other way around. I slightly prefer MTB over road bike, but km-wise I do yearly almost twice as much km on road than MTB.

Put my 12 yr old MTBer into road training with his 14 yr old brother this spring. Coach checked back over all the TT records, and he was 7 seconds faster than their previous fastest 12 yr old. He went on to get silver in his TT category in the London Youth games (first ever road TT), then the next day gold in BMX, and won his 2 MTB series. Road coach wants him to do track in the autumn!

I have never done a road race per se, but I have ridden the Hotter Than Hell Hundred in Texas surrounded by thousands of other riders. Blake did fantastic for never have ridden at speed in a peloton before, besides Megavalanche on his hardtail, and that's pure chaos.
