This is too funny but the sad reality is make no mistake this happens in 95% of garages in Ireland. The big shiny showrooms are not built by you being loyal, they are built by upselling and scaremongering you into parts and labour. And what's worse is you pay say 2 hours labour for pads and disks and they have it done in like half that.
My local garages were chocka so I had to go to Halfords. Hand brake wasn't holding - took it in, sorted, paid. Next day car starts rolling down a slight hill with handbrake fully on. Had major problems trying to get them to sort it until I contacted an area manager. He was an independent and arranged for the car to go to a different Halfords who stripped the work done and rebuilt it. Their statement was that the new parts were sound but the adjustment was bad. Halfords are a franchise, but unlike Mcdonalds you won't get the same burger in whichever store you visit. Had a good outcome in the end as the Area Manager sorted a discount on the original bill.
Well they pay their own wages then. But not all of them are dishonest. That's just stereotype that's going around. Usually people who are in it for the money are crooks. People who are enthusiastic about their job won't be crooks.
The worst shower for this type of bullshit are atlas garages, unbelievable.. Drop your car in after the nct.. they ring you and tell you items which it has passed on.. need replacement.. plus the couple of smalls bits that it failed on

Just reading the comments - typical IRISH know it all attitude to spending money - don’t service the car It costs money and it doesn’t need it the garages are all out to rip us off so drive the car into the ground then complain when there is a major problem with the car & Blame the garage the car was bought from 2 years ago - the brits didn’t bate is hard enough !
No no, you make a valid point but where your wrong is the mechanics who do rip people off who know no better. I’ve seen it happen to women, to pensioners. Find a good honest mechanic and your set. Stay away from the chain places, robbin bastards. Finally, if you can do the basics yourself esp the oil and filters, do it.
