@@mid_nowhere why would you willingly watch ads? I would rather not watch a any ads espically not a 2:30 one... When that's not what it clearly was from the start at all.
@@DylanLandro In my mind, this was a video about how we are represented online. The story concludes with the point about taking ownership over the way we're represented online and sharing a version of ourselves that reflects who we are in real life. That wasn't an ad, it was supposed to be a story about how I actually feel and think about our lives online. I guess I didn't do a good enough job differentiating my video essay from the ad read at the end. Sorry to dissapoint.
I felt like this video ended at the climax. You had the momentum, then peaced out. If it was intentionally an ad, it was well made however for the story we were left hanging so hard.

Look, I get you have to advertise, but I was expecting a story or something informative in return. Just disappointed since this could have been really interesting.
It has to be clear from the get go "IN" the video. Description is that part no one reads. Oh... and RU-vid's guidelines also requires s few thing missing in all this.
This video seemed to flow quite nicely and seemed to be going somewhere but then just ended rather abruptly with the ad details - left me wanting more though, i suppose... :-)
Hey Jack so after hearing you on Colin and Samir's podcast I revisited this video with a new perspective, that perceptive of this being an Ad, and its definitely serving that purpose. While I look at it that way, its a phenomenal piece, I hope that Format is actually taking this piece and promoting it on socials or even as a pre-roll cause I think it is that great piece of advertisement. I also look forward to your video on ads. I'm glad I was able to revisit it with that perspective, granted my initial thought was like that of many others as it can be a turn off when coming to a video and not expecting to be served a full on ad, granted now a days with creator brands partnerships their are many formats for ad whether the ad has nothing to do with the video or entirely and I think that space with influencer will grow tremendously and is something I look forward to observing. Cheers!
Edit was amazing as always. You mentioned that guy who did the exposed video twice with no explanation. I guess it's a setup for another video. I avoid channels like his because RU-vid will flood my homepage with similar stuff. Rise above ☮🌎💚
I wish I had known about this prior to my divorce. I coulda told the judge, no really, what she's saying about me isn't true,,,just check out the real me on my website.
I liked this a lot and thought it was very well shot and edited. You lost me a bit when you started talking about websites because I knew where it was going (actually I was expecting squarespace). I feel like it's fine to just sneak a sponsor in at the beginning or end when the video is unrelated but I when the video is an outright ad it should be sign posted properly to avoid seeming disingenuous. Good work nonetheless.
Thank you for this feedback Jonathan! I didn't intend for this to be an all out ad. I was trying to make a video essay about my personal experience with sharing myself online and how it can be difficult to share your whole self. The part about Format was intended to be separate from the conclusion about sharing a version of yourself online that is more similar to the real you. I'm bummed it didn't come across that way to so many people who watched it but there's no way to know how people are going to feel until the video is already posted. Such is the struggle of sharing videos online.
@@JackCoyne Good to know. Everything is subjective and I'm fairly cynical as is. Thanks for taking criticism in a polite way. I genuinely really enjoy the stuff you make.
So...i googled Jack Coyne and got (positives) RU-vid, twitter, linkdin, medium, But no whoever the sponsor of this video ... not a great advertising outcome.
okay what is this video... you introduced a topic, showed a video of you being "exposed" which you said you'd get back to, got to step 2, then just gave an ad read and the video ended...? this is geuinely just an ad and 0% content. I get the hustle but this isn't the way to do it bro
Hey Abe, bummed that the video didn't work for you because in my mind the intentions were clear. I wanted to make a video essay about my personal experience with sharing myself online and how it can be difficult to share your whole self. The part about Format was intended to be separate from the conclusion which was: it's not easy to come across online the way you intend and If you want to come across online like you do in real life, you need to create a space online to share that message. In my mind there was a clear story here about feeling like I have a fragmented presence online that doesn't accurately reflect who I am and wanting to figure out a way to resolve it. I didn't realize that message wasn't going to come across you to or other people who didnt get it until the video was published. That's the hard thing about sharing youtube videos... you don't know what folks will think until after you share them.
