I have taken a one week break 2 years or so ago. Really affected my energy levels. Thought about doing a month for some time now but have never gotten around to it. Also feel like the psychological addiction can become quite strong where one immediately begins to associate feelings of tiredness with 'I need some coffee'.
Yea I really felt low at the first week mark but my mood did take an upturn after that so if you are able to hold strong during that period, things will get better! Totally agree that linking coffee as a solution to being tired can easily spiral into an addictive relationship with caffeine. I think the same thing can be said to other socially acceptable things in our lives like sugar, fast food, social media, pornography and dating apps. Normally acceptable but could turn addictive if heavily relied on, which then can spiral out of control in a negative way.
@@brewinghabits Totally agree. I feel like managing these things in such a way as not to overconsume is actually a big key to happiness today. Most people I know spend more time on social media and eat less healthily than they'd like.
Last year during the pandemic, I try to not drink coffee for about 10 days, and if I remember correctly it was on the 8th day I also feels the craving about sweet snacks, later that day I ended up buying chocolate bar and a milk drink and out of curiousity, I search online about caffeine in chocolate and found that it contain small amount of caffeine depends of the cocoa powder used in the chocolate. I was surprised, it's like my body or brain have it's own way to get some caffeine but from different source since I was avoiding coffee during that time lol 😆
Haha the body knew some cheat codes to get caffeine without the coffee beverage xD I guess the same happened with me and having both decaf and some chocolate. Mini injections of caffeine that helped me in the early days of the experiment lol
I stopped drinking coffee for two weeks during a trip to Japan. Delicious tea was everywhere (and free in my hotel room) and coffee was really expensive, so I figured I'd save some money. 48 hours after my last cup I crashed! Migraine and zero energy. I got out of bed at 1:30 in the afternoon that day. After that I was fine. Unfortunately as soon as I got on the plane back home I started drinking coffee again 😅and the addiction came back. Might try again some day.
Best thing I ever gave up. Never going back. My anxiety and stress have vanished I sleep better heart not racing. Do it. Takes three days of mild headaches after that it’s easy. Just drink nice herbal teas like nettle tea. Craving goes. V easy. Best thing ever 👍🏻
There is some caffeine in decafe and chocolate, so I don't think this counts as 30 days without it. However, it is still interesting to see the effects of lessening caffeine consumption.
Hey, have you ever done a dopamine reset? Holy crap!! After the first few hours, I was shaking. I only did 18 hours. The next 2 days, I was just off and uncoordinated. The day after the reset, things were already brighter and tasted better. Flowers had such a strong, beautiful smell. I highly recommend it!! My next reset, I plan on being a bit more strict and possibly breaking or at least lowering my dependency on certain things I consume.
Seems like you have your routine downpacked! I've had some good decaf in the past but those were few and far apart, I should perhaps explore more down the road with decaf coffee for scienceee. Cheers!
@@brewinghabits I roast my own, but have had good decaf from sw roasters and black&white. More studies (like one out of Australia recently) show coffee benefits.
@@brewinghabits Well since it sounds like you’re in the coffee business and I’m just an intermediate amateur, you probably know better than me, but I like swp Ethiopians if I roast light. For medium, I typically do Colombian or Guatemalan. Colombian EA decafs are getting easier to find, but I personally don’t find them any better than SWP/MWP.
@@chuckv8838 I've only dealt with a handful of decaf coffees (all SWP) so you might be more knowledgeable here than me! I've had a above average one from Peru and a subpar one from Colombia. Will have to look around for some Ethiopian decaf!
Bubble burst…. Decaffeinate= significantly less caffeine… but not caffeine free. Probably why you experienced withdrawal when u actually stopped caffeine
@@brewinghabits a good way to start this experiment the next time around (based on knowledge shared with me by friends that work on the tea industry) is pair your coffee drinking with tea drinking concurrently. Caffeine from tea has a slower decline in your system, so as you lesson the jagged rise and fall of coffee caffeine the tea helps you experience withdrawal less severely and can dissolve cravings before they start. That way when you quite “cold Turkey” your body isn’t in shock and subliminally sending you messages to drink by accessing previous neurological patterns around coffee caffeine intake
I think this more gradual approach would be great for someone who drinks multiple cups per day. With my situation, I usually keep it to 1 cup per day and even though it was quite the harsh few days, the "cold turkey + 3% caffeine from decaf" wasn't too bad for me +___+
