I think, in general, what they really mean when saying that is "stop chasing the bottom". It's a thing that comes up in the TCGplayer Pro Retailers FB page, anyway, as many sellers set their rules to TCG low current listing minus a cent. When everyone does that, prices tank as sellers are just trying to catch fast sales, rather than good sales. If we all stop doing that, prices will be a little more profitable for everyone.

⁠@@foenix8094​​⁠​⁠sorry I’d like to apologize and retract my first statement. Price fixing is the correct term of what I’m thinking of. But let’s discuss. You keep using the word “donate” people are exchanging membership for better pricing, it’s not a donation. Call it what you want. It could even say donation on patreon but at the end of the day you are paying some monthly amount for better pricing. It’s a common tactic in many industries. I don’t trade cards very often at all so I don’t donate to PSA for their membership. In the flip side. Folks like myself are the ones making it harder for shops. I try and sell out of my house. I think the real abusers are the “hype” economy folks that created the bubble that has been imploding floor about a year now. Half the time they are the folks walking into stores demanding things like one piece at MSRP knowing full well they are going to run to whatnot and auction the packs off at some gross price.

@@foenix8094 Anybody can do this. Everyone is jealous they don’t have the willpower and work ethic to make it happen. This sounds like being a good business mind and knowing how to be successful to me. The old LGS model doesn’t work alone anymore. Adapt or die… Amazon doesn’t care about holding the line. But what do I know? Bash the little guy!

Market price does go both ways, I remember selling aftermath booster boxes for 39.99 it’s a market and it’s fluid

@@rng-gamez yes it does. for example, this store would sell Lorcana for $15 a pack because its market price yet refuses to sell Paldea evolved boosters at $3 which is market price at that time. Can't have it both ways. The whole market price excuse was just bullshit. Is a store reputation worth a quick cash crab?

@@rng-gamez Fair enough, I was taking shipping, credit processors, theft, etc as a wash in cost of operations as both occur whether you use your own platform or a third party one.

Yeah but with some of the prices he is selling at he is making roughly $4 a box after shipping, payment processing and that isnt counting what ever wages he is paying unless he is doing it all himself. Even if you get 1000 boxes that is only a total $4k profit if they all sell, and I just dont think he is selling that many boxes, maybe a few hundred. What is the point at that margin. He talks about cultivating a customer base, but the fact of the matter is those people are not there for his personality, they are there because he is cheap, plain and simple. If they liked his personality he could then raise his prices and at least make $20 a box profit after expenses and they would all stay, but that isnt the case. You can't build your business on the cheapskates and penny pinchers, let them go to the retailers that race to the bottom.

@@ChaseDaTruth Derium and Alpha Investments both sold product at these low margins. Derium used to say they were making a dollar a box. They're doing fine. Alpha Investments often sells at a loss. his Patreon and RU-vid make him enough a month to afford to do this. Rudy has said there's not that much more work between shipping 50 boxes and shipping 1000. He, Derium and RNG all seem to think that high-volume low-margin selling is worth it. A lot of businesses have this model. Grocery stores are at an average of 2% margin. But they sell football fields worth of product daily and what they sell, they're customers can't live without. I personally wouldn't have thought this low-margin game works for game stores, but it seems to.

I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t. If I charged $20 over market a box I’d be robbing people. The facts are is that low margins and high volume are what drive the business. Smaller stores can charge more for their products and survive on selling 10-20 boxes for a release, I cannot. I also enjoy the whole process of scaling a business I’m just going to keep my head down and continue what I do best.

@@rng-gamez Yeah, if I sold 10-20 boxes at release, I'd throw a party. So, at this point, I don't see the ins-and-outs at that scale. And if I can't, neither can anyone who doesn't own a store.

It’s a good start but things change so quickly when it comes to opening sealed boxes for profit. Sometimes you can make a killing when getting good deals but the flip side is very often there are months that it’s hard to get good deals. So it’s good to do but only if you have a good base already to make it viable

Getting value back out of box is rare. Getting profit out of a box is mythic.

Looks like a have a lot of sleepless nights ahead of me.
