Welcome to the THREAD TO MEND spinning and knitting podcast! In today’s episode, I present to your garden update and the progress I made on @StephenWest ‘s Bubble Cardigan using Stephen & Penelope’s West Wool Bicycle, @BrooklynTweed ‘s Loft, and Biches & Bushes Le Petite Lambswool. I show the Corriedale fiber I’ve scoured to prep for spinning into another 2ply yarn, and I question which handspun yarns to choose to knit @andreamowry ‘s Vellichor knit tee.

📦 I always love watching cleaning and organizing videos. I'm a professional organizer and really love it. I grew up with my mom doing it. I am not a minimalist and I have a ton of stuff but it's all really organized. 😂

Another enjoyable podcast! I’m so glad that you are in a better place now work-wise! I’d love to see your de-stash. I have accumulated too many garments over the years, and need to do the same myself. I have things in my closet that I once loved, but no longer fit my style and I no longer feel good in when wearing. I have made the vellichor, and I would recommend making sure that you are happy with the contrast between the main color and each if the contrast colors. As in any colorwork, you don’t want to do the work and not have it show up! I love your Steven West sweater - can’t wait to see the finished project!!

Love the garden tour and my suggestion for an evergreen, winter interests is a Lenten rose, hellebore plant. This plant blooms in February for some wonderful winter delights!

Hi Taylor, I'm glad your new job is going well. Your Corriedale handspun looks lovely! I'm looking forward to seeing what you knit with all your handspun yarns. 📦If you're feeling overwhelmed, decluttering could be just the thing! I cleared out my closet recently (my mum helped with advice what to keep and to throw out) and afterwards I felt so much lighter! Also, if I declutter regularly, sometimes I find I don't mind getting rid of something I wanted to keep a few years before. I'd like to watch your decluttering video!

📦 Have been enjoying your videos and will pretty much watch any of your content. 🙂 You mentioned being unsure whether to put out a design that requires weaving in lots of ends. I find it helpful when a designer includes advice on some of the less enjoyable tasks. Not that I mind weaving in ends, but depending on the yarn weight and fiber content, some methods produce a nicer result and getting that guidance in the pattern can make for a more enjoyable knit. I’m currently working on a test knit in worsted weight yarn and I decided to use a version of the “weavin’ Stephen” method from Stephen West. I’m first weaving in the new yarn so it’s secure, and then weaving in the tail of the ball that’s running out. This might be my new go to for woolly wools since it adds almost no bulk.

📦 I feel you about being worried that I'll regret getting rid of stuff! However, I often force myself to get rid of stuff (small apartment) and I don't think I've ever regretted it... And your garden is so lush!!

Spending time to think about is good BUT after spending 5 mins on a small task you feel better. Just do small small tasks but many. Just like I made sushi for the kids despite the main dinner for hubby. I slowly n gradually even tried bubble made from ice cream for them. Now I am feeling better watching Taylor Owen after so much.

I love today's podcast. Love all your knits and ideas. I think you speak so perfectly to everything. I have a couple of your patterns to cast on and can't wait, but it is always time isn't? I think do what makes you happy. I love to see people organize but I'm one of those people who always regret giving things away, so maybe box them up and put them in proper care bags in the basement? 📦📦 I think a decluttering video would be inspiring! I bought Velichor when it first came out, too, and have struggled with decision indecision ever since. I can't seem to land on a color scheme. 😕 You definitely deserve to cast on all the things and not pressure yourself to just design. And there is always so much to learn in any given pattern. If I was interested in designing, I would probably try patterns from lots of different designers to get ideas about not just the pattern and mechanics of the knit, but the way the pattern is written up - the layout of the actual pdf. I'm just always curious about what I can learn from others.

Absolutely! I have learned everything from working the patterns of fabulous designers! Some inspire me to do things similarly, others inspire me to take it easy and remember that layout and photography doesn’t have to be 100% perfect just to make something! Important, but perfection is never reached.

So happy that you are loving the job! The handspun is looking beautiful and I would not be worried about asking people to weave in ends. We all will weave in ends for the projects we love!! Or we do the weavin stephen and that's that!! Treat yourself a little, but in moderation. If I showed you my stash of things I must have, it's shameful

📦 definitely can relate on sooooo many levels! I often regret months or years later when I get rid of something and think on organizing so much I than don’t do it. Maybe I missed a video or got interrupted but I missed the chat in between the difficult co-worker (I’d label as a bully) to now your new job you are talking about. Is it completely different place/job/people or transfer area/same boss?? Either very happy for you…life is too short to be dealing with bullies during each 8 hour work day 😵‍💫

Our peach tree when loaded with peaches we make a post of two by four with a short piece across the top like a T we use to hold up a worrisome branch

📦 decluttering can be stressful but it can also lead to a greater feeling of relief. You’re holding onto these items because you spent time and money searching and purchasing them, but now they no longer spark joy. Instead they spark anxiety. So do yourself a favour and put them back into the universe. Whether you choose to sell or donate them. They’ve done their original job now let them move on. I wish I had a job that allowed me to wear my hand knits, but I 1) have a uniform and 2) work in food so I’d rather not ruin knits with sweaty, greasy yuck. I greatly understand multiple pets = child. I have 7 cats in my household. They are definitely a handful, I’m just thankful they all get along nicely. And on the subject of weaving in ends? Who cares 🤷🏼‍♀️ a lot of designs feature multiple colour changes which necessitates ends to weave. People will deal with it or they won’t. It’s up to them. I say if your heart wants to design a stripy, colour changing cardigan then go for it ❤️

I really enjoy your garden updates and tours! I apologize if you've already talked about this and I just haven't seen it yet (I'm still working my way through your videos), but I'm curious about your compost bin. It's a very different style than what I'm familiar with. What is the brand? How long have you had it, and are you happy with it? (and, I guess it would be useful to know if you've used other methods and have an opinion about the one you're using vs. other styles). 🍂🪱🌱 Congratulations on your new job! 📦

I love these bins! I’ve been using them for a few years now and they are still good as new. We get a lot of rain, so i half hazardously cover then when a tarp which I then remove to lay down over the ground when I open them up to turn everything out and toss back in. This allows me to turn more air into the mix and guarantee proper moisture to really get the heat going.
