I'm so glad I found your channel in my plethora of homeschool video searches! I'm planning to homeschool my rising third grader and kindergartener next year. Coming across a newer homeschool mom who has children same age/grades makes it less stressful than watching more experienced (albeit still very helpful) homeschooling moms lol
I was homeschooled from 2000-2010 but attended university starting in 2009. My little brother was also homeschooled. A couple of notes for you: I think that your intuition on not following the same schedule as the school system is spot on. My mom let me focus down different subjects almost all at once. She staggered the subjects a little but it was like 80% of what I wanted to learn and then 20% other. I think homeschooling over all was good for me and it provided me with a good education. I also knew a girl who started studying to be a nurse at around 12-13 and was a RN before she could legally drink. She blew everyone out of the water in her classes during nursing school. There are a couple of pit falls with homeschooling though... It's hard to develop a lot of social skills while homeschooling. Myself and every other homeschooled kid were obviously behind everyone else socially in university (and in the military for my case). I would say by around our early to mid twenties most had caught up but some people.... never do. Especially if they don't get out of their parents house at around 18. I've also noticed a lot of people who are homeschooled are single a lot later in life than most people or just never date. I recommend either high school or at least starting them in university at 16 or something. People need to develop socially away from mom and dad amongst their peers. I also recommend finding sports that they enjoy to help them find new friends, be social and fit. Homeschooling can be amazing though especially if the child is motivated. I know a bunch of people who were homeschooled with degrees and high paying jobs. Take care, much love

Oh no, not the socialization myth/stereotype! I get that it happens, but not nearly as much as people think. Besides, show me any school anywhere that doesn't have students who struggle with socializing. You can't. It doesn't exist.
@@katie7748 girl, what are you going on about? I’m not referencing here say I’m referencing my own experience. If that experience is a common pattern, then it’s not a myth. Yes, young people in the school system do struggle with socialization. However, homeschooling can be isolating which can exacerbate the social struggles of youth.
I am still just trying for my first baby and I already want to try homeschooling to start with. I think it would be best for at least primary school. Vacationing whenever you want sounds amazing so thank you for sharing your experience!
I'm a homeschool mom from the 90's. before the internet :) My kids are both homeschooling their own, things have changed a lot!! Sounds like you've got the right attitude, are on the right track and that your open to change if something isn't working for you!, It's a process for sure! Enjoy the journey!!!

Oh yes! Sick days are so much better in homeschool. Cuz you don’t have those sick days when you know they’re well enough to do some school but you also know they’ll make the class and teacher at public feel uncomfortable having them there. You just do your couple hours of school while they’re coughing and blowing their nose, and then they have the rest of the day to do whatever they feel like.
“He wanted to do his work because he’s excited to be done for the year.” With your year-round schooling you were going to have to somehow make it so there is an endpoint because they need that motivation to get to the endpoint.
Yes! Maybe I didn’t explain too well. The kids are done with their core school work for the year and had 3 weeks off. Then started some Spanish and math review, which is still very light. I haven’t decided when they will start their next school year, but it will be earlier than the public schools around us. We finished before them, and don’t plan on waiting around and scheduling our year according to public school if that makes sense.
We’ve made friends through sports like soccer, baseball, dance and robotics. But we also have joined local homeschool park days as well as barefoot university this past year, which is pretty affordable and meets once a week for nature walks and stuff.
