This is the first time in about 9 years that I haven't been able to go to the festival (😢), and it's always surprised me how little it's been talked about in the booktube/bookish content creator space - I mean it's a literal festival of books! But saying that, it's been amazing to see that it seems to have definitely broken through something this year and I've seen so many more people going to Hay or talking about it 👏 Fab haul 😊 would love to see your FS collection! 📚

Algernon Blackwood & William Hope Hodgson (died fighting WW1 IIRC) both wrote famous short stories about occult detectives Blackwood’s is John Silence which came before Hope Hodgson’s Carnacki The Ghost Finder. Both also wrote longer novella/novel length books in the same British Library series as well. Arthur Machen was a contemporary of both Blackwood & Hope Hodgson. And if you need a reason to read H G Wells, he belonged to the Fabian Society for a number of years, but left, so he is left-wing.

If you are curious about biology I think you would enjoy "Why Fish Don't Exist" by Lulu Miller. It tells a story about taxonomists in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It has some sapphic elements which I know you like.

I love seeing people talk about their special edition books and why they got those perticular ones, so the FS collection video would be great! Also, while you were unboxing and organising, I noticed you have quite a few books on witchcraft..do you think you could also make one on those?

I have the same Perrault copy from Folio! The British Library series on Weird Fiction is amazing! I have the one on Depths and Ocean stories. There's one on my radar about plants as well. Love the new setup!

Neverwhere is quite sly in its use of language and it slips in sideways to talk about some important issues. It’s my favorite Gaiman and I recommend it.

Jean I think you'd really like Neverwhere. It's largely about the mythology of London, and the stories associated with it, coming to life in an underground version of the city above. It's urban fantasy, quite dark in setting though not so much tone. And mythology and legends play a huge part. Enjoyed your book haul video! Thanks.

I went to Hay on Wye festival for my first time this year too! I wanted to see your talk but had a clash with another session. I highly recommend going for a walk near the town. I went on a nature walk and it goes from a side street in the town into a wood, then meadows then a river beach! I loved books 1 & 2 in the Wayfarer series, I’ve taken out book 3 several times from the library and need to get round to it!

Ooh I'd love to share my doll/toy collection aha. Right now I have no idea where I'm going to display them because most do not look right on my myth and history bookcases aha. But hopefully I'll find somewhere I can get max joy from them.
