What I Bring Hiking for En Plein Air Painting 

Hi Jaclyn. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad). I'm pretty new to your channel and I'm a fellow artist and hiker. Besides all the Art Kit for Plein Air and all the stuff you take on your one day hikes (I sometimes go hiking for several days at a time, sleeping outdoors), I wanted to share with you a piece of equipment that I believe is really important and it's inexpensive and extremely lightweight, but it has served me on some occasions very well and it might save your life. I don't recall the technical name for it or brand (since I live in Europe brands won't be applicable to you in the U.S.), but it's those thin aluminum large sheets that sometimes are used in accidents to cover a victim... They are extremely good to maintaining body heat and can save a hickers life in an emergency from frost bite or worse. I've had to use them on an emergency while hiking up in the mountains and they helped keep me warm, even though I was well equipped at the time (clothing and all). And another thing I also recommend is a means to be able to make a fire somehow (flint tool, matches, etc - more than one tool is always better). Catching up on your videos… and i just want to say, how beautiful you are and lovely your personality is!!! ☺️ alsoooo. I always wear a hat to protect! Especially in my 40s became very aware. Wish id started young! And ppl forget about hands!!! And i can see the age on mine!!! Plus im an avid hand washer doesnt help. Ha

Would love to see your actual setup. I did see your minimal art kit, but I mean do you always sit down and sketch?

We live at a prairie/wetlands FP here in Illinois. I'm trying my hand at getting out and drawing/painting around our vast array of park. I'm going to try and get up with my husband who does a morning hike and I want to paint the sunrise while he's doing his less-than-hour hike up and down hills. So, I'm new at this, happy to find other who get out there and do this. Thanks for sharing!
