In my job, I’m in charge of designing and developing the required hardware and software to characterize and test electronic chips. To understand why engineers even need to develop hardware and software we first have to understand the tools required.

As an EE who transitioned fully into Software Dev, I cannot emphasize more how much we really suck at the core fundamentals of CS. I can automate with Python and do stuff with Arduino, but I remember struggling so much at my job when I first encountered data structures. I was like wtf is this shit. I got fired because i did not know what those funny arrow thingy was (de referenced pointer to struct). I malloc'ed the fuck out of a puny 8051 when they hardly had any footprint. Also, I used space, not tabs

@@AVL-Tree Electronics Engineering is a subset of EE and is very much related to software dev. As an EE major with an electronics focus, I'm forced to take an Assembly course that essentially teaches me about how CPUs process surface level languages like C++ in the background and I will be taking a machine learning course as an upper division elective to get an even deeper understanding of this. Electronics Eng. and Computer Eng. have a lot more in common than you think.

Hello! Thank you for this video. It's very helpful.I have one question?Do companies offer practice for newly graduated students so they can learn what to do during the work. For example let's say that a student doesn't know how to operate the softwares that the company use.Do they train you about this or at least give you time to learn the softwares?

Yes, especially as a new grad..they can't expect you to know. Most companies will have a "training" period or at least let you shadow an experienced engineer.

I'm a EE major. I took an Intro to Programming class at my community college for dirt cheap that was for CS majors. I got an A in it and it helped me out for my follow on "Programming for Engineers" class the next semester when I transferred to my 4 year school. Learning a programming language is like French or Spanish; you have to practice in order to be competent. Both of those programming classes where the easiest compared to my other major specific math intensive courses, so you'll be fine. *But definitely look into familiarizing yourself with Matlab,* your school should offer the software for free.

It looks like your a Test Engineer. I do the same but for Military. Stay away from Government contracts or work. Funded by project. Project over so are you. You better save some $ for a few years and don't live paycheck to paycheck. Forget about Cars. Every young guy out of school wants a flash car. The economy is due to a downturn and it happens every 8-10 years because capitalism is like an unstable control system which is not part of most EE required classes today.
