Jake, are you going to be AD or reserves? I’m asking because I’m reserves. I just re-enlisted for this career field. Got a bonus too! Unfortunately, they’re telling me that I shouldn’t have been given this job if I wasn’t planning on being employed in this profession full time once tech school is over. I currently work a full time job, I have 2 years until retirement, I can’t just quit now. I have never experienced this before and I’m trying to find out as much as I can.
@jakesmith789
@jakesmith789 3 года назад
@@Chatsy0088 I'm guard. I started phase 2 about a month a go. There are 3 phases for reserves/guard and 2 for Active Duty. I had to wait a year and a half to start school but you have to be committed. Tech school alone is about a year and a half. Phase 1 is all bookwork and testing all the time.. pretty much a final every single week for 4 months. Phase 2 is where you do clinical rotations and start doing your job. Phase 3 is just your upgrade training but then after that you have CCATT courses to be scheduled for and CSTARS and some other ones. A lot of training up front but well worth it in the end. If you don't want to go through this long haul you could probably go Medical Admin 4A and then do a couple years and retire. With 4H you will test for both your CRT and RRT. It really makes it worth it to leave the military with credentials.

@Only1Diamond

Hello, I am glad you found it helpful. Everyone moves after Phase I as Phase II is not taught at the same location. You may be able to stay in the local area (Texas) but that is only if the Air Force has a need for you there. Everyone's situation varies however, based on their status (ie. married, single, prior service, first time enlistee, etc). It is hard to provide information without knowing your exact situation. Your family would not accompany you to your first phase of tech school.

Child of Promise that’s tough. Yes search for Registered Respiratory Therapist. The VA is a direct fit. Most civilians will work on the ICU side- there are less jobs on the Pulmonary Function Testing. Good overview but she uses a lot of jargon that may be unfamiliar to many people. RTs have direct patient contact- much more than physical therapists - only nurses have more patient contact than RRTs. If you don’t like blood this is the wrong field. I was a RRT for 20 years (RRT in 1984). This young lady is quite smart to bet a business degree to go with this technical training. Healthcare is a business- good luck & well done!
