thing i do not like about mg4.
I am MG4 owner form a couple of weeks and absolutely love this electric car. However there are several thing I don't like about my new MG4.
First one is the fact that MG4 doesn't have rear screen wiper.
Sadly this budget EV from MG doesn't have wireless android auto/apple car play.
The boot space is just ok and there's not storage underneath
Also no granny cable available with the car
Another annoying thing is that the car is not very efficient
This MG4 is SE model which means no SAT Nav available and also no wireless charging for a mobile phone.
This one is something that I'm hoping its going to be available after some software updates which is the car doesn't hold its presets
Unfortunately thers no reversing camera which was available on my MG5
These are just a few thing I dont like about the
Overall i am very happy about my MG4 and would highly recommend to anyone whos looking for a great value for money EV with some cool tech features

I agree about the rear wiper. IMO this is a must have for all hatchbacks, SUV's & estate cars. Water may run off the rear screen at speed but all the the other detritus won't. A pano roof (not an option) is also needed to brighten up that very dark interior (I believe this is available in other markets on the MG4 but not in UK). No grab handles & no interior lights in the back either &, heated seats & steering wheel are a must have on all electric cars to minimise use of the main cabin heater so it's a demerit not having them on the SE model. It's obvious they want to push buyers up to the Trophy model & even that does not have all the bells & whistles. A "nearly but not quite" score from me. Having said all of that I will still be looking at this car when the times comes to replace my wife's ICE car next year. Hopefully there might be a few used Trophy models available by then. Failing that I will have to look at other smaller used EV car models - not SUV's.

At last, someone saying the lack of rear wiper is a problem despite the manufacturers saying it isn't. Lots of cars coming through without a wiper, it's such an annoying trend!

I totally don't understand this. Honestly all the cars needs a rear wiper even though it's not required by the law 😭

@@DariuszTech If you have a reversing camera (especially a 360 camera) reversing is generally a breeze without needing the rear wiper. Other than that there's not much use for it, unless you want to watch out for others tailgating you. I have a big aftermarket convex rear view mirror attachment (they're like $15 on AliExpress) so when lane changing I can also see the opposite rear side window, plus I also have blind spot mirrors on each side mirror. And I keep the rear seats folded down as I very rarely carry passengers at the back. I would strongly suggest fitting an aftermarket reversing camera, and a dedicated screen for that on the dash. The rear view visibility does look rather terrible in your video.

Have absolutely ZERO issues without a viper. I cleaned the window and applied ceramic coating to it. All the moisture and water just gets repelled and i have a good clear view in any weather.

Regarding the noisey indicators I believe it’s because you hear them via the speakers but, I could be wrong…..Good vid. 👍

The star buttons can be programmed and I think the indicators can be quietened in the settings under 'chime'.

Hi, I noticed the two car seats in the back. How is this car for family? Have you done any road trip or camping? I am considering this car but I am a bit anxious about the space and the booth. We have had Golf previously and it was just about perfect with two kids.

We have 3 kids and 2 dogs. To be honest at the back seats there's more space than MG5 which we previously had. We won't be doing camping as have caravan 👍

I've seen the range issues elsewhere. What sort of driving do you do? Around town or motorway? Is the 3.4m/Kwh in recent cold weather? Doesn't the region level have an effect on the range?

It's mainly motorway journeys. Temperature around 10-15 degree Celsius. Normal mode with high regen

In Australia all versions of the MG4 have rear windscreen wiper and even the base model has reversing camera

Mg5 and Zs both default to normal, but my Zs does keep on regen 3 which is what I want... and is best for economy, plus saves brake pad/disc wear👍

Put some anti rain solution on rear window and turn down the indicators within the infotainment system settings as I’ve done this on my mki long range trophy connect zs EV. We’ve just ordered an mg4 trophy for my wife. Biggest bug bear for me no rear wiper and fewer buttons than my mkii zs EV.

Buy a shorter usb cable and clips,it will hide the eyesore. Use Rainx on the rear window.

It’s a bit of a blurred line these days - for example if they were to allow more options to be assigned to the right star button, which is done through the infotainment screen, is that a system or infotainment update? Lots of unanswered questions on a feature they’ve been trumpeting a bit. I’m keen to order one but I’d like to know that kind of thing before I commit

Cable ... coil it up underneath and just have what you need pushing through to the shelf 😉 (Or a shorter cable as someone else suggests. Me? I'll be coiling up my cable which is one of these magnetic connection types, so I can easily plug/unplug my phone. Another alternative is an adaptor kit - e.g. Carlinkit 4.0 - to provide wireless Carplay/AA; only downside is you'd still need to plug in if you need to charge your phone) Have you tried Android Auto? Do you get the Pre-Production hardware overlay message?

The pre-production message happens on a lot of cars if you have a Google, it will be resolved in an update, I believe its a software package that not been signed and is still probably on a Google developer version.

Lack of rear wiper is definitely a deal braker for many in UK /Ireland, MG did the same as Hyundai with the ioniq and said their "design" meant no rear wiper was necessary, complete bull and marketing crap.But just as bad is there are no grab handles in the MG4, none! Never had a car that did not have grab handles..insane cost cutting by MG.

most phones will be a usb-c connector as europe have mandated it as the standard charging connector but the mg android auto connector is usb=a. most memory sticks are usb-a but mg provide a usb-c connector. Bit of a strange choice

It seems you can't pick and choose optional extras. If you want cameras, you have to go up to a Trophy.

I have speaked with MG denmark about this "normal" and "regen 3" is stupied it reset every time, but it seem they don´t want to go to SAIC with this issue.

Basically you bought the wrong version if you are missing functions you want ;) , the rear screen on my skoda clears quickly once driving so this is not an issue, I just use wing mirrors, or as suggested Rainex, or a clothe to wipe it off.However is your opinion and if its that much of a problem, you can trade up.

Are yoy sure that efficiency is bad... I have heard so many reviews saying the efficiency is decent fof this car. Are you mainly doing motorway journey and how heavy is your foot. Thanks for your video, It was helpful and looking forward to more :)

I'm not heavy with the foot but from the cars I have currently tested this is definitely least efficient. 70% journeys motorway on normal mode with heavy regen

Yes it is true for the Trophy but not for the SE as you can't adjust the height of the boot floor on the SE, unlike on the Trophy.

Sadly the keyless entry from a driver side stopped working. No response from MG about the warranty to fix the problem

No you just press the button on the steering wheel and you can adjust the speed. But also can customize the option on the screen if you don't want some features to be disabled or enabled

3.4mls/kwh or 18.27kwh/100km aint bad 61.7 netto = 337km total range trip distance 80-10% = 236km ( thats ofc for the new car @150.000km the giving 70% left meaning at 7years your stil be able to do atleast 165km daily trips) 18.27kwh consumption with a wltp given of 16.9kwh that seems realy ok we all know the wltp and others are fake. you cant expect much more range of these small battery cars

The number will go higher in summer. On my mg5 I had similar figures at winter but summer we did over 200 mile trip on one charge with 50kwh battery getting 5m/kwh

No you have to physically lock the car with the key or the keyless entry button on the door. I had a friend driving pass our street one day and she rang me saying that the car on the drive has the light's on. It was on for couple of hours 😭🤣 so annoying

A shame about the efficiency, I've been driving a mk1 ZS EV (41kWh usable) for about 3 years and on long trips away from home the lack of efficiency and slow charging make it no better or possibly slightly worse than our previous 30kWh Soul EV which seemed to get about an extra mile from each kWh and charge faster. I guess you are seeing good charge rates from the big battery in your MG4?

I haven't had a chance to rapid charge as want to take advantage of solar panels at home. We might be going to Germany for Christmas so it would be good to see that kind of speed this car can take 😁

@@DariuszTech That would be a good Ev road trip, I've heard good things from people with the big battery, I'm hoping we get some real world feedback about the smaller LPF battery version soon. From 7 years of EV driving for me it's all about how quickly you can charge up vs how efficiently you can use that energy once you are away from home for any length of time. Enjoy the car, we are taking one out for a drive while the ZS EV is in for it's next service.

I can't fault the efficiency in my MG4 SE SR A quick trip to town last week (3 miles each way) gave 8 m/kWh on the way there and settled at around 6.5 m/kWh for both there and back after getting back home. Motorway commute to work easily gives over 4 m/kWh at 60-65 too

No space? Are you blind? there is a whole empty boot full of space, that's what it's for. Oh a quick tip, I spread an old doona in the boot to protect it and stops my shopping rolling around, I also put my Jumper charger cables and plastic petrol container etc...underneath it at the back just to look a little neater.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. However a luggage capacity of 363 litres, the MG4’s boot isn’t the biggest in its class. The Kia Niro EV offers an extra 112 litres of load space, while MG’s own (admittedly more expensive) ZS EV provides 470 litres. In my opinion is just ok

Everyone of your dislikes are nothing some could have been solved with the higher specification Trophy model just ordered a Trophy so i should be quite happy if those are the only problems
