But early this year I came across your video on RU-vid and followed the UC boot camp series for three months. Am completely healed now. Am no longer anaemic and I have normal bowel movement. Hello there Kenny and thank you for your very helpful videos. My story has many similarities to yours and thankfully I have had a similar outcome. I was diagnosed with UC in 2010 at age 54. I completed a course of medication and felt much better I also changed my diet and gave up meat which wasn't a problem as I ate very little anyway. I was however a big fan of milk, cheese and eggs. In 2013 I experienced a minor flare that didn't require steroids but I was prescribed a mild anti inflammatory which I take to this day. From 2013 I have been whole food plant based and I have been in remission ever since. My last colonoscopy was years ago and showed a normal colon and I am symptom free. Like you I can eat animal products if I want to and often do when eating out but I don't have any difficulties afterwards. I also made my own Sauerkraut and still do sometimes plus I drink smoothies and include starchy vegetables like potatoes and rice every day. I enjoy plenty of salads and nuts and seeds plus beans and lentils. My diet is full of fibre and I agree with you that this is likely helping my gut microbiome to thrive and keep me well. Although the foods I eat daily are different to the ones you consume I believe that we are both supporting our digestive system in a similar way and this is the key to UC remission. I have been very impressed by your videos and they have persuaded me to revisit fermentated foods and reintroduce them to my diet. As you say, different things seem to work for different people plus our tastes and circumstances differ as well ( I didn't miss meat but cheese was hard to give up, fortunately I like vegan cheese so I don't feel too deprived!). Take care and sending best wishes from the UK.

I couldn't beat mine with diet. It definitely helped - sometimes. I live on a dairy farm in New Zealand so have easy access to raw milk and there is a berry farm up the road. I lived off berries, home kill beef, greens, sweet potatoes, raw milk, kefir, sourkraut and bananas for years and my health still steadily declined. I'm on an IV infusion every 8 weeks now and that has helped a lot. I still try to eat healthy to help my microbiome.

Hi Kenny, how do you know you're not just currently in an extended period of natural remission? I seem to have a fairly mild form of ulcerative colitis which consists of having about 1 flare up a year, lasting about 1.5 months on average. Symptoms usually stay mild to moderate, although occasionally approach severe for the odd day. The rest of the time I have complete 100% remission without adjusting my diet in any way. Since UC is generally thought of as a repeating 'remission - flare up' disorder, how do you know you're not just in a long remission state which has come about naturally rather than because of your very specific diet? P.s. I know you had an extreme case and have done a lot of research on UC so I genuinely want to be proven wrong, i'm not just trying to provoke.

Wow your wife has an amazingly strong body. Good on her! and thank you so much for your videos. My UC is not that severe, I only have proctitis and usually don't bleed (just mucus) when I'm having a flare up, but the low mood, the tiredness and the bowel irritation does bring me down. I think my trigger is sugar and I'm sure my high sugar consumption in the past messed up my microbiome and caused UC in the first place (I got it diagnosed 3 years ago). I made the mistake to eat too much milk choc and other sugary stuff the other day and I'm now paying for it. I'm currently on a kefir/blueberry banana walnut filled diet and I've been doing intermittent fasting for a long time anyway. Will now go and buy some pickles, thanks you to this video :D All the best to you and your wife :)

Kenny, i have followed you for many years. Close to when you first started. I really envy your round diet! I wish I could. I tried but to no avail. I went into remission in 2001 and relapsed in 2016. I went into remission by following a low carb Atkins like diet, but after 15 yrs I succumbed to my wife’s cooking.I thought I was near the end. I tried your diet but nothing. I tried a few others including purchasing from MTHYGG, which I now regret. I envy those it works for. So I went back to carnivore basically. And after 4 years I have remission. Just had a colonoscopy, doc is worried because I have plenty of scarring etc. He isn’t thrilled about the diet but acknowledged that it seems to keep bleeding and open sores at bay so he has given it tacit approval. I do follow your morning routine. Coffee, coffee 4-6 hrs at the piano and then a jog. My wife comes home and we go for a walk has she has just come through breast cancer and things are looking up in that department. Then I head off to my evening gig. My meals are bacon and eggs or sausage around 1pm. A steak or a burger around 7. No Bread, no fríes. No carbonated drinks as they hurt too. I “snack” on lunch meat occasionally if I’m really good. If I absolutely have to have something sweet I will take some heavy whipping cream and add erythrotol. Can’t do it much though. I also eat grilled chicken, tunal w olive oil, some fish. Turkey is big, ham and bison rarely . I feel live able. Can jog, lift a few weights and perform on stage so that’s what matters. I have noticed that once you give up the things you really used to crave, they seem to become less important so there’s that. I don’t have a channel, although I’d like to start one for working piano players at some point. I just wanted you to know you are watched and appreciated, if not a little envied. Joe 55 yrs young

I was diagnosed at in 2009 at age 15. Unfortunately for me I thought I was invincible and could eat anything and not worry about the potential consequences. Now, heading towards 30 my Crohns Disease has caught up to me and I am having quite the hard time of getting on top of daily symptoms, (bloating, acid reflux, abdo pain) and the occasional monthly bad flare with vomiting and intense pain. I am currently taking 108mg Vedolizumab fortnightly in the form of subcut injection, administered by myself and have been fortunate enough to avoid surgery (Dr. says if I end up in hospital again due to a flare then they will most likely have to remove sections of my intestines, about 15cm total. I was 60kg at 6'1, managed to get to 79kg with protein shakes and working out but after a string of bad flares over the last 18 months i have dropped back down to 65kg. Your video has encouraged me and motivated me more than anything else to take my health and diet seriously. I am starting right now. Thank you.

It took me a total of 18 months from start to finish in order to heal. This is a great detailed summary of my experience: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rvGH2hdhPA0.html. However, the last three months of my healing process was when I started trying to optimize the gut microbiome. Hi Kenny, I have UC and I’ve been following your diet for about 7 months. My health was already in a fairly good place when I started and it’s continued to improve on this diet. So I have a question regarding adding food in; I recently started working out with a friend and he said I should get at least my body weight in grams of protein in order to gain the most muscle and strength. I already get a good amount from the raw milk and kefir, but I decided to add chicken bone broth, and collagen peptides powder in order to get more protein, and because I know they’re good for your gut. So here’s the question, with all of that it’s still not super easy to get as much protein as I’m trying to get, especially since ideally I would get even more than my body weight in protein, so I’m wondering about adding chicken breasts in at dinner. Basically I know you said you weren’t doing meats because they don’t add value and they take the place of the helpful food you would have eaten. If it were you would you add chicken? I will try and make up for it by eating a little more vegetables or drinking more kefir. Also FYI chicken has never been a problem for my digestion. Sorry for the novel😆. But thanks in advance!

Hi Kenny. You mentioned you had ups and downs during your 1 and a half year healing journey with different foods and protocols. When you started eating fermented foods and fermented kefir, did you start getting itchy hives on your face, and general itching all over body? In the past I've noticed I'd get that whenever I tried either fermented foods or kefir. I'm not sure if I should've pushed through for a month to see if it subsides or not. I think I've just been unfortunate with histamine intolerance (from leaky gut), so stopped as soon I noticed the hives each time I ate sauerkraut or drank kefir. Hope you can answer. Thanks.

(23F) Been diagnosed with UC for 2 years now but have had it for 3 years. This past year I’ve had a flare up almost 9-10 times. I just never learn. My triggers are spicy food and especially alcohol, especially if I mix those, I’m a goner. For my flares I go on prednisone, which used to help me a lot but I get really bad mood swings (irritation) and gain lots of weight. Just become a different person which sucks but if it helps mt flare why not. But the last two times I’ve been on Pred it keeps taking longer and longer to help, I think I’m starting to build a tolerance which scares me, I know what’s next with mt severity is getting my colon removed. I’m flaring right now and it’s awful, I got the stomach bug then two days later I’m in a flare for another agonizing two weeks of my life. I need to start making serious changes with my diet, this is so depressing for me. Gonna cut out spicy food, oily foods and of course alcohol. Try to low my sugar intake but that’ll be the hardest step for me of them all. Wish me luck and to everyone else going through this type of pain with this disease, you’re not alone, it’s truly awful but there’s hope to get better.

It's important to understand that I am not a doctor, so please know that my following opinion should not be taken as medical advice and that you should consult with your doctor before making any dietary or other changes with the intent to produce a specific health effect. That being said, I wrote my college senior thesis over IBD and the gut microbiome. So I had to read a ton of randomized controlled trials, and what I generally found was that IBD patients who were undergoing some sort of gut microbiome optimizing type therapy (such as taking probiotics, FMTs, etc.) were also taking their normal medication during the study as well. The trend that I saw was that these patients were still seeing significant improvement as a result of the gut microbiome optimizing therapy and the medication. So yes, I think that medicine is absolutely a good thing. Now the tricky thing that I don't much about, is the fact that some medicines may have few side effects and not really do anything to the gut microbiome, and others may prevent the gut microbiome from becoming optimized. I'm sure which medicines do which, so that would be a great thing to talk to your doctor about and see if he/she will do some research for you and then put you on a medicine that will lower symptoms while also being beneficial/neutral in regards to the gut microbiome. Hope that helps!

Hi Kenny, my son is just diagnosed of Crohn’s disease. UC and CD are in IBD category but do you think your diet and lifestyle would work for people with Crohn’s disease? I found the research providing conclusion of strong relationship between probiotics and UC, but not clear for Crohn’s disease. My son is just 11 years old and I really hope his disease is treated with diet and healthy lifestyle. I know it will be hard for 11 year old kid but he prefers this over medication. We have talked a lot about IBD and treatment, and diet change is the only hopeful way for us now. Now I give him big kefir (blueberries and banana) smoothie for breakfast and fish and chicken with fermented veges and rice for lunch and dinner. If I see SCD, rice and potatoes are illegal. Could you please let me know if you have experience with people with CD and how it went? I am so happy for you and you are my son’s hope.

@team_honnas 3 года назад
Hi Simone, I'm very sorry to hear about your son. I realize how difficult all of this must be for both you and him. While I'm definitely not a doctor and this should not be taken as medical advice, I do believe that improved nutrition will improve the composition of the gut microbiome and that is likely to improve both crohn's disease and UC. I know more than a few people with Crohn's disease that have achieved much better levels of health by improving their nutrition. Some good friends had a child who was 9 that was diagnosed with CD and he was able to drastically improve his quality of life by following a gut microbiome optimizing approach in addition to medication. Hopefully as he continues to get healthier he will have no further need of medication and perhaps his doctor will approve lowering the dose or discontinuing entirely. Anyways, I want to give you and your son hope by telling you that there are other people who are improving their quality of life and even achieving full remission. You might find this link helpful: www.teamhonnas.com/post/you-don-t-need-a-coach-how-to-improve-your-gut-health-on-your-own-for-free. It's a blog post that lists the videos that I think are most important for education on improving the GM and how these were very effective for me. Please consult your doctor and do not act on this information without the approval and supervision of your son's doctor. Doctors are not the enemy. In an ideal world, improved nutrition targeted towards optimizing the gut microbiome and proper medication would lead to the best possible outcomes. The idea being that improved nutrition would correct the GM dysbiosis and the medication & doctor supervision would allow the best management of symptoms. And after a period of time, as the GM is optimized and the gut lining of the intestines heals, there would be no further need of medication and doctors would supervise the discontinuation of the medication. Obviously the process isn't always this clear cut and other variables take place, but I encourage you to speak to your doctor about making dietary changes in addition to continuing the medication regimen your son is currently on. Hopefully the situation will be able to unfold as I have described. Will be praying for you and your son!

I recently started drinking unpasteurized milk, and sour dough bread (to try to gain weight) and it did not change my condition much. @@nicktriplett9331 So here goes again. I have been in remission for the last 18 months. The Paleo, GAPS and OMAD diets did not work they did help but they did not work. The semi vegetarian diet did, see below. I had to drastically reduce my transition time, so Oats, green smoothies are taken everyday. I also take collagen, probiotics, B12 and Vitamin D. I also appealed to God for mercy, every night I would pray for death. “A prospective trial conducted in Japan in hospitalized subjects with CD (n = 22) examined the effect of a semi-vegetarian diet on maintaining remission. The diet was lacto-ovo vegetarian, in which eggs and milk were allowed with small portions of meat offered once every two weeks and fish weekly. Remission rate achieved with the semi-vegetarian diet was 100% after one year and 92% after two years. A semi-vegetarian diet showed significant prevention of relapse compared to that of individuals following an omnivorous diet (p = 0.003 log rank test). Based on these observations, the semi-vegetarian diet may be a highly effective way to maintain remission CD. While this study is promising, large, randomized control studies are required to validate the efficacy of this type of diet for IBD patients.” You can also search for Dr Michael Greger - I had links in my original post which is not liked. I know each person is different but this is what worked for me.

I would add in a probiotic supplement and some psyllium just for extra probiotic support and improving BM form, but the main things would be the nutritional aspects that I go into intense detail in boot camp episode 10. However, in answer to your original question, I like these probiotic supplements: amzn.to/3h38mDh and shop.seed.com/products/daily-synbiotic. I like this brand of psyllium: amzn.to/3kQ4yrr. What's the most easy minimal diet I can do to follow something like this? Can I just do turmeric white rice, protein source (ground beef/chicken/lamb/fish etc), and raw kefir/yogurt?

Shivam ss follow Kenny’s diet- it works!! It will put you into remission and then you can go back and eat normal again- if you flare up just go back to the diet- another thing that works To put UC into remission is eat nothing but fruits for 2 weeks/ it also did it for me 👍 🙏🏻
