I filmed this video two days before my nine week surgiversary. Lots of folks had requested a video of an average day's intake, so here it is! I am not perfect, and every program is different, but I hope it helps to see what I eat. By the way, after I uploaded the video I realized that I misspoke about my morning vitamin. It is a B complex, not a B12 complex :-)

Great video! My team has me on two protein shakes a day and 1 ounces of protein + 2 tablespoons of veg or fruit per meal. They say my calories should be at 400 to 500 which is so unrealistic. I am going to hopefully be down to 1 protein shake and more food after 3 months. I really want to get my protein from food. I hope it gets better for me. You are doing great

We have that in common. I’ve been able to tolerate everything but not too fond of sweets anymore which is why I got tired of the protein shakes. I was drinking Premier Protein and although they all are sweet, I’d like to try Fairlife. “Listen to your body” You can say that again. I definitely have to pause after bites because that overly full feeling will definitely sneak up on me. I enjoy the diet cran-pineapple but prefer when the ice melts and dilutes it a bit.

This gave me a huge sigh of relief. The liquid diet pre-op phase is so difficult mentally right now and to know I will eventually get to eat “normal” food again makes me happy. ❤

What an awesome video! I’m so glad that I came across your channel to see more of what a patient with RNY experiences. I have been watching many videos, but the majority of them are for gastric sleeve. Helpful but not what I’m looking for hopefully tomorrow, 3/23/23 I’ll have my RNY, and off to my own health journey!

Thank you for showing us what you eat. It looks yummy. Two things. Dr. John Pilcher, Bariatric Surgeon has a RU-vid channel. He teaches that you don’t need to eat when you’re not hungry, even if you don’t hit your macros. Especially early on. However, he also says to follow your own Bariatric team’s orders. Second thing, your B12 would probably be fine for gastric sleeve patients, but for gastric bypass it won’t be absorbed because the area we absorb vitamin B12 is bypassed. (the duodenum). Costco and Amazon both sell a sublingual versions. You let them dissolve right under your tongue so it gets right into your bloodstream. Don’t worry, they taste good. Some patients use liquid drops underneath the tongue. I’m an RN who has studied a lot of nutrition. As for my own Bariatric journey, I’m still in the pre-op phase. The psychologist wants me to take a 4 week on-line class called “Understanding Anxiety” which starts next week. And they want some labs.

I am a huge fan of Dr. Pilcher- I love his videos! I am in health care as well- I am a DNP in private practice. It helps to have a health care background in some ways to understand the physical process. I am fascinated with nutrition as well. I misspoke in the video- the pill that I take in the morning is a B complex which does not have vitamin B12 in it. It was recommended by my dietitian to take in addition to my bariatric multi. I do nasal B12 due to the absorption issues after RNY. Things are sure different when you are on the other side as the patient 🙂Good luck with your journey! I am sure you will do great!

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 I find it’s definitely different for each person on this journey. No matter the size yet health issues is the major concern. I really don’t understand why people would repeat this surgery. I know I will never do it again. Staying driven looking forward to working out

You could add protein to broth as an option to get in more protein

Have you found a protein powder that absorbs well and does not clump up?I like my broth really hot and most clump up even when I add it into cold water first.

Thank you so much for doing this for me! I would watch these daily if I could, so keep em coming if you enjoy making them. So Im a little confused. You showed that you take a B12 pill, but also state you take a nasal one. Why would you do both? Is it true that it cant be absorbed by your RNY tummy because of the bipass? If so, why do you take it pill form? lol
@kakisrnyjourney5376
@kakisrnyjourney5376 Год назад
Hey there! I misspoke in my video- I actually take a B Complex that does not have B12 in it! It was early :-) I do that nasal B12 instead of oral! It is true that the absorption of oral B12 is greatly reduced by the gastric bypass surgery. I am glad that you enjoyed the video!

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 is there a reason you prefer a nasal B12 (Ive never heard of that before) over sublingual or under the tough liquid, or even an injection?
@kakisrnyjourney5376
@kakisrnyjourney5376 Год назад
@@qq1651 I chose it due to ease of use- just once per week with no assistance from anyone else required. My insurance covered it very well, which often isn't the case. If it hadn't, I would have gone with the injection.

You shouldn't have to take omeprazole after RNY surgery. That would be for VSG patients. I'm 9 weeks post-op from RNY surgery and after my surgery, my Doctor told me I wouldn't need it anymore because there is no stomach acid. I haven't used it and I'm fine. (and I had it bad, I have Barret esophagus due to reflux and had this surgery not to lose weight but to get rid of the reflux damaging my esophagus)

I’m 9 weeks post rny. My surgeon prescribes it for 6 months post surgery. And I have ABSOLUTELY needed it. I’ve developed an ulcer and it’s been awful. So, while you may not get acid reflux anymore. It’s used to prevent ulcers.
@belinda9696
@belinda9696 4 месяца назад
@@kodybtaco I see. You can still get an ulcer after 6 mos too though. That's why we are not supposed to have NSAIDs ever. I guess maybe the newer pouch is more sensitive? Anyways, everyone is different and It's best to follow what your own Dr says. I don't know if her Dr instructed her or if she decided to use it on her own, some people add in their own vitamins, and what nots that they think is right to do for themselves. I was thinking that was what she might have been doing when I commented.

Did you happen to ask them WHY you cant eat vegetables for 6 months? Im always curious about the "whys" of every program being different or having a different opinions or recommendations. I mean, obviously you both had the same surgery to the same body part. These are what my brain is asking ME: Why is it ok for Kaki to eat veggies, but not you? What makes one body different from another? Why would you not tolerate them as well as Kaki? I mean, if by chance, you would have walked into a different clinic and had surgery by Kaki's Doctor, you would be able to eat veggies now. Do you sense my frustration on why every Doctor/program has a different opinion? lol It just doesnt make sense to me.
