Today I've compiled a list of some things I hate about living in the U.S. I've been thinking a lot about it, and I hope everything I said made sense. If you enjoyed the video please be sure to like and subscribe! thanks
Great video. I empathize with you. I think you're right. It's a feeling-- you can't explain it. I live in Argentina now, and that's something I don't look forward to when going back to the US-- I think it's relevant to the Thoreau quote were he says that most men "live quiet lives of desperation." Let me also say that in my personal experience, that emptiness feeling lots of American places have I found are less true in less populated areas. At least for me, I grew up in a small town and felt that sense of community, but when I got older my family moved to the DMV and it was the worst couple of years in my life as far as that community "warmness" goes. Then again, maybe it's because I grew up in a defense-industry heavy area so there were lots of bonds there that were hard to break, so maybe it isn't the population thing per se... interesting.
I don't really care about politics much. The view points are just a superficial thing I could care less about. As a younger millennial I gravitated heavily towards the left, purely for the community and social aspect of things. I don't know what happened this last 10 years or so or if my experience is just anecdotal, but that community and what I remember has just disappeared completely. I was invited to a barbeque by an old friend and then to a pretty cool, laid back church. I'm atheist, they don't care that I'm atheist, or fairly liberal, I have a real, fun social life again. I think the conservative wing of the country is really doing a better job of making communities and social gatherings in this country right now.... And dare I say diverse? At least intellectually or at least personality wise? IDK... I'm not sure what's going on with that, but I think it's something worth exploring, like semantically or intellectually at least.
I feel this so much, and completely understand and empathize with the sentiment. I just wish there were more feasible options for the average individual to make or influence changes, I love this country's people and the country itself, but I hate its government and societal structures. If only power actually lied in the hands of the real human beings here instead of a bunch of rich capitalists and rich capitalist politicians who advertise themselves as right and left but are really just right and fascist. sorry for the political rant.
truly though, I wish the best for you and your endeavors here, it's so hard to make it on this platform without doing it full time, and it requires so much luck, you seem genuine and like you'd make the best of whatever you can get, and that just shows that you deserve as much as possible.
It’s definitely really sad that most people don’t really have many options. Even if they did want to leave the US, or even move states/ towns, most people don’t have the money. Yeah I totally get what you mean. No need to apologize! I love a political rant ;) and I definitely agree with the sentiment! Also, thank you that’s very kind! I hope luck is on my side with this one 😅 thanks for the comment and your thoughts on the situation!
Idk, I guess what I'm saying is that they talk and argue and have theories and verbose dinner conversations with like 20 people .... They love when I disagree with them and never get personally angry at me and like to debate. It makes me sad to admit, but my liberal friends here just aren't like that anymore.... I don't know what happened.
