What I learned from painting my nails for a year

I do environmental regulation and go on manly man oil field sites where the corporate big wigs are trying to be over polite and the painted nails throw them off. Normally they try to ignore it but I’ve had one site manager say “Cmon man, got on earring and painted nails.” I just chuckled then his regional supervisor nudged him saying “Shut up! Don’t you know he’s the inspector!”. It wasn’t my compliance visit but my trainees… they ended up going to enforcement for improper maintenance of a hazardous waste tank.

It only took painting my nails and the next second I found myself naked and hugging with three other handsome dudes.

There was a young guy in my apartment complex that was always bumming cigs off of me. One time he asked me for a light and I handed him a Pride lighter. He made a "hmph" sound and never asked me for a cig again. That lighter saved me a lot of money.

I feel 100% safer around dudes with painted nails

Dude, I’ve noticed the SAME THING. I cant wear it all week long because of my work (hospital kitchen/catering), but my weekends I always paint my nails. Douchebags avoid me, and it’s very literally gotten me laid. It’s fucking great

You love those nails man, but quick tips. Do thinner coats and more coats and obviously a top and base coat like any paint job, and alcohol to clean the nails of oil. A single paint can last till ive trimmed 50% of my nails before peeling and looks great. Also makes your nails sturdier so they dont chip break and rip as much.

Men who can wear anything and own it proudly is the most masculine thing ever. If men get uncomfortable over painted nails or a skirt or a maid outfit then that says a lot more about their insecurities than it does you. Keep it up, Squid! Love your content ♥

I took a break from painting my nails and I saw this vid. That's wild. I like painting my nails to match my R3. Before I transitioned I was super nervous about painting my nails and even tried to hide them a bit when I did. Now I realize that was all silly and not to pander to haters.

True story, when I first came out as trans, my best friend at the time had gotten caught all up in the anti-trans anti-lgbtq wave of propagandization. I ended up having to part ways with this person because they couldn't seem to understand how being an asshat while pretending to also be my "friend" might be an issue. They went so far as to try and give me the "but you're different from the rest of them" type of response, you know the old "I don't like black people but you're a good one in my book" bullshit. In any case, when I finally had enough and told them that was I moving on, the first thing they did was literally say to others something along the lines of "they tried to make me out to be the bad guy but I was tolerating things like them suddenly painting their nails and stuff", like omfg how fragile can you be? It's as if me doing something to MY body had somehow transgressed THEIR existence. For fuck's sake can you be any more insecure? Funny part is I occasionally did my nails before I transitioned, just not quite the same way I do now. Haters gonna hate.

Started painting mine about 3 months ago, made a date out of it with my partner since i didnt know anything i might need so they taught me everything to buy and we painted our nails together. But you're so right about the nail biting, been biting my nails my whole life and stopped the day they were first painted. Have yet to get any negative reactions but i eagerly await the day someone is overly concerned with my nails and just HAS to say something snarky. So far though I've only gotten compliments which is very sweet and im very happy about that.

Okay, now learn about coats, a good base coat will help prevent chipping, and a top coat will help hide imperfections. Thanks for being such a great ally!❤

Apart from just being fun and fabulous. Men with nailpolish is just such a good indicator of being secure in your masculinity, which is both a somewhat subtle mark of support and safety. Instantly makes me more comfortable in a conversation

whenever I see a dude with painted nails I imidiately think they are gonna be open minded and chill to talk to it's honestly a green flag for me as bi guy that I can be myself without having to watch my language so I don't out myself and possibly put myself in an uncomfortable or get rumors spread about me

I started painting mine cause I work at a shop and having grimy nails bugs the shit out of me. But if they're black, you can't see it. Also, its black. Metal heads have been painting their nails since, like at least the 80s. Side note: Any way you could get an option for those stickers that are on those really hard to remove tag stickers that graffiti artists use? I like slapping them around the motorcycle shop, but people keep fucking with them.

Don’t forget a top coat also it’s super easy to use gel and a uv light. It comes out so much nicer and you don’t have to wait for it to dry.

My dad is a pipefitter and my sister and i used to love painting his nails! He would show up to factories and power plants with sparkley pink nails and kitten stickers on his hard hat. Anytime someone said something negative about it hed just laugh and say that having four kids was enough proof of his manliness to do whatever he wanted to make his family happy

Wore nail polish and makeup in the 90s. Responses usually ranged from fear to disgust to outrage. It’s like a chemical reaction: ‘phobes can’t help but to reveal themselves. Response from secure and content people? Total apathy. 💅🏼 👍🏼

I've let my goddaughters paint my nails since they were about 3 and 4. They are now 9 and 10. I mainly do it because this something they like doing and I don't care about.

I paint my nails occasionally but I'm way too impatient to wait for them to dry, so I usually wind up smudging them

He also dyes his hair (pink is his go-to) He was raised by a single mom, with two sisters (me, now trans man, and our younger sibling, nonbinary) so he learned early to respect women Edit bc i think its important: he now has a baby daughter and i'm so excited to see her grow up loved

If you want to you could take a q-tip with some nail polish remover to clean up the edges a bit just so it isn't staying on your skin. Only if you want to

My wife is a big fan of Polish Pops! They come in tons of awesome colors, are a bit easier than hand painting, and they're durable too! Hoghly recommend them

Same reason I call my day bag a purse… it makes some guy SOOO MAD that I call it a purse. Always good for a laugh. But I’ve had a similar experience at Home Depot one day, I was spray painting something and just held it and painted my hand. When I scrubbed my hand, the paint stayed on my nails mostly but came off my skin easily for some reason. I went to Home Depot for more paint and the girl I usually talk to and flirt with a little waved me over to her lane from the self checkout… I went over and she looked at my nails and said “I didn’t know you liked boys too!” as a.. “joke” and I just explained that it was just overspray and I’ve never painted my nails before. So she started talking about how real men shouldn’t do that and if she ever saw a man with painted nails she would assume he was gay or a creep of some kind.. I told her I think that’s dumb and it’s just paint and left and I’m glad I had that interaction because I was considering asking her out sometime. Women can be assholes too. I’m glad I dodged a bullet there… makes me want to do it now for the same reason you do! Hahaha easy asshole barrier.

Same here, man! My partner shows me your vid because I have had similar experiences. I've had men think I smashed my thumb and it's bruising. Nope! Just my grunge flaking fingernail polish. I've also had some amazing experiences with people. Like humanizing trying not to let my emotions show. I also pierced my ears and started putting on guy liner. This is not anywhere near the majority of the reason that I keep doing it. It's just an added bonus that I can have great connections with humans around me about it.

Just got a scooter just to get around I plan on getting a bigger bike after a year or so. I just wanna know why do scooters get so much hate like I was at a light and saw some sport bikers I did the wave and got flipped off and called a bundle of sticks. I was like whao wtf did I do.

your paint job is better than my first one haha. i painted my nails in class the day i came out to my parents. i did a shitty job and had to get help from a friend just to salvage it, so dont be discouraged by a job well done

Genuine question, do you feel the polish on your nails? When I used to paint my nails I would become hyper aware of not just the nails themselves, but the weight of the polish.

As a woman with over 300 bottles of nail polish. I will compliment EVERY SINGLE PERSON on their nails because I love to talk about nails. If you want your black to "look better" a quick dry top coat and dry drops will stop you from having smudges :D

The biting nails part is actually something I noticed when I got my nails painted for shits and giggles a couple years ago. And now I'm trans sooo edit: and doing it too quickly so you scrape it off in the shower is so real

I know that interaction probably stung at first, but always remember that what people like that guy are actually afraid of and running from is themselves, the disg*sted by the person the could potentially be deep down, so in order to stay away from that, they also push away anything that resembles that which they despise about themselves. (Not that paining your nails if you're a cis guy, or being lgbt is bad, but to people like that bigot, it totally is, so they put it in the same category as objectively bad things that people like him know are wrong they deep down want to be/do. I hope I explained my point well enough) ❤ you're the best rubio.
