Yes, older books not just new ones. I feel like there's so many good books already in the world. I love reading new books but I have been reading really old books and ones I missed recently for the first time, it's been interesting. It feels different.

Same! I don’t watch any book hauls, even for my favorite creators. The repetitive cycle feels too much like Shein hauls and then decluttering. I’ve always appreciated how often Jess mentions her library usage.

YUP! I heard a booktube creator say once that hauls have the highest view counts for them so I guess people like watching them. But so many people just buy books they never read and I don't really care.

I actually really enjoy those videos and have learned a lot from them but I completely understand the negativity is far too much. The world isn't changing as good as we want it to. This is something we almost live with. For peace of mind and sanity, it needs to go away for a while.

I love individual book reviews! Or two or three mini reviews in one video. They may not get tons of views, but I think honest reviews are important for helping viewers spend their book money wisely. I think fewer hauls is the way to go, except maybe library books. It just reduces the commercialism of smaller channels. (On the other hand, I sometimes watch them on large channels just to know what new releases are coming out.) All that to say, just do what you want to do and I’ll watch it!!

I agree individual reviews are important, and personally I see them more as a resource rather than my regular dose of booktube. sometimes I skip over individual book reviews from a channel I've subscribed to but I often search for individual review videos when I happen to be reading that particular book or want to know more.

I don't mind a good book haul every once in a while (I mean, who doesn't walk away from a holiday or a birthday without a new stack for their shelves??), but I've always preferred UNhaul content, lol. Like I loved seeing all your special editions and it made me go and rearrange some of my shelve to show some of my own off, but I barely have patience for TBR lists and that's what a lot of haul videos are.

yea my least favourite type of content on booktube is book hauls ik its easy to film but they're sometimes so boring to watch. i do love wrap ups (whether every month or every once in a while), reading challenges/tags, rants and whole videos dedicated to just one book/series!! I loved bookcommunitea but i get how it gets tiring after a while tbh

I went to the bookstore the other day and had $75 in gift cards. I figured that would be enough money. I bought four books and it was over $90! For FOUR books! They weren't all hardcover or new either. I was trying to figure out when they got SO expensive. BOTM is spoiling me. 😂 I understand going to used bookstores or library sales, but so few book tubers do that and I can't imagine how much money is being dropped. Book hauls were also super depressing when i lost my job.

great video! I’m definitely hoping that booktubers will post less and less book hauls. Especially when people are hauling 20+ brand new hardcovers that they bought in a couple months when so many people are struggling with finances right now. It’s complicated because I definitely am guilty of buying books impulsively and letting them sit on my shelves for a long time. So I’m not necessarily judging those people. But I’d LOVE to see more people utilizing their libraries instead of buying every single book that interests them.

I don't watch book hauls anymore because I already buy a lot of books and I don't need the temptation. I watch vlogs if there is nothing else for me to watch but they are not my thing. You not doing those type of videos is fine with me. I am subscribed to a lot of book tubers so if a video is more than 15 - 20 minutes I don't watch it. If I reduce the number of booktubers I am subscribed to then I can start vlogs again because like you I like seeing what other people are upto.

You know, I wish people did way less purchase hauls and way more library hauls. I was spending so much money on books until Noelle Gallagher mentioned Libby and Hoopla and it has saved me hundreds of dollars. I think spreading more awareness about local libraries would be so cool.

The only thing I don’t like that’s common on Booktube is one you mentioned. Book hauls. It’s for multiple reasons but it’s something I just don’t click on anymore. I subbed to you a while back because of Book Communi-tea (Nigel was still a puppy potato at the time), but I’m still here regardless of the content. ❤ You do what make YOU happy!

To answer your question, it’s not necessarily things I don’t like, but the videos I almost never watch are TBRs and monthly wrap ups if they’ve already talked at length about everything they’ve read in other videos

I enjoyed your vlogs but I very much understand why you would want to limit the amount of personal stuff you're putting out there. I'm not a creator myself, it's something I've often considered doing, but maintaining privacy is exactly the thing I've worried about (especially as someone who has a tendency to overshare lol). Hauls don't particularly bother me if they surround around books the person has already read or is just clearly very excited about, but I think hauls as the singular topic of the video are a bit boring to me. Though, I think it depends on whether I enjoy the personality of the creator (and so I get happy to see others be happy). I think themed reading vlogs/reviews also have more of a tendency to catch my eye. But still it all kinda becomes dependant on how engaging the person is on whether I stay or not.

I do really liked the videos I've watched of book communitea but I agree on the dramas being repetitive and I totally get stopping them altogether or as a continuous series. For things I wish people did less: Recently I feel like a lot of people are covering the exact same books and dramas and I'm really tired. And I don't mean just because someone did a vídeo on a book no one can do a video in that book ever. But it feels like whenever there's a popular book to be mad about EVERYONE will make videos on it. Especially books famous on tiktok. I get it, you guys think people on tiktok have a shit taste on books, it was already established with the the first thousand videos, tweets and posts, I think we can spear the next thousand. Lightlark in particular I never want to see the cover again in my life.

Just to add 2 things: 1. No hate on anyone that did videos like this. I don't think it's bad, I don't think this makes someone a bad youtuber for making a video in a topic that is trending and I get it, the algorithm sucks and people want to use what's working at the moment. My point it's that I'm tired of this increase on the same topic over and over and over and over again 2. I know this problem is not exclusive to booktube, but it's tiring nonetheless

everything has a season! sometimes creators say "I'm not going to do x anymore" and then they do come back to it! I just want your content to be fun and not stressful for you! :) bookhauls are definitely things i put on in the background and don't focus on too hard so I won't miss them. and book communitea is draining content. Izzy does romancelandia only monthly and that's fine. maybe if there's something really unique going on, but the cyclical nature of these convos... protect your peace!

I accidentally got on a bookish drama tik tok page and it literally made me cringe. Like everything you said was exactly what that video was and it wasn’t even funny- your commentary made it hilarious even when it was the same thing over and over because yt people really are THOSE people. Also, I like book hauls when the person hauling KNOWS about the book. If you’re hauling and then can’t even tell me about the book, I cannot watch your haul, you know? Like tell me at least why you picked it up or something

I am happy to see less hauls. I'm okay with like... "here's the SEs I got in the past few months" or special event hauls (birthday, Christmas, Indie Bookstore Day, etc) but when I see ones that clearly they just went on a shopping spree because they felt like it, it gets me down. It's valid for folks to do that though! I do like unhauls though. I like hearing why people are getting rid of books.

Yeah, it's your channel, you do what feels best, as always! Personally, I prefer content that's like "what I've been reading lately" and the person talks about 2 or 3 books or whatever. I get a real sense for the book, if it's something I'd enjoy or not, than just watching random book hauls. I find myself lately watching more unhauling videos, it's a very special release to see people let go of their books, a lot of them unread from years ago! It's liberating, in a way. (And then I see multiple massive hauls and think of the inevitable unhaul video... it's a cycle!) When I started watching booktube years ago I noticed I bought twice as many books and it got to a point where I had to set rules to stop lol Now I'm much more attuned to what I actually enjoy reading so I'm more specific when I buy books. I hardly ever read new stuff, so most hauls pass me by, but library hauls, for example, tend to have a lot more variety in content! for me library hauls > random book hauls ! I always love to see Nigel, too!

While i'll miss the book comuniteas i'm really happy that you know what you want and don't want to to, Jess, making content just for the sake of it would be souldraining i can imagine, and to make content about drama when your heart's not in it anymore whould be exhausting. Also i support you not wanting to do book hauls! While i personally love buying books as much as the next person i just don't have the money for it, and watching other people buying like 10 books a month makes me sad lol, we don't all have the same opportunities for that and sometimes I feel like i'm not as much of a reader just because i don't own all the books i love, which is bullshit of course, but this constant supporting of capitalism (by making hauls specifically, not by buying books generally), i can't stand it. Personally, I don't watch content about unread books, i.e. hauls, tbrs, upcoming releases, etc. I just don't care. I want to know what people like/didn't like about books and not have a list of books that often don't even get read. Other then that, my booktube subs are pretty varied, so I have a variety of books, video types, etc. to choose from and haven't really felt like there is too much of one thing.

I feel like reading older books is just as important as reading the new books because there are so many different ones in the world. A lot of older books I have not read yet and am now reading for the 1st time have been fascinating. Some might have yet to read and still have not picked up a copy. I don't think that circulating the same 7 books that are popular at the current moment is ideal to the expansion of reading amongst people. If a book is popular but it doesn't pick your interest then it doesn't pick your interest. My reviews of books are always entirely honest. I don't do dishonest bull. I feel like if I like it I will say so. If not, I'll say it's not for me but someone else might because not everything is everyone's mug of cocoa or ray of sunshine.

I would like to see less hauls and book tours. For the first, what is the point? I am just being shown what you have brought. And granted if you are excited about what you purchased, or you want to review or show a special edition, I can understand. But it just doesn't interest me, seeing someone's recent purchase history. I stopped watching them a long time ago and it has made my own book buying and reading better because I am waiting for the reviews to get a better idea of what the book is in question. As for book tours, again I am not interested but they are also so long and so boring. I don't get the appeal.

I would like to see less book hauls on booktube. Not all, but some creators are hypocritical when they buy new books then complain about consumerism when there are more than enough options to buy books from people who no longer want them, some in never been read condition! Not to mention, most people filming hauls now are buying the same books and new releases, when they could find some amazing books that need more love from people who are ready to pass on their copies. And there are far too many"special editions" being produced that even owning one isn't special anymore, it's just an over expensive decoration to get neglected.

As a viewer, I'd like to see fewer halls overall on booktube. I'd also love to see more normalization of reading past releases or finding hidden gems as opposed to everyone rushing to read the hot new release. For some releases, it makes sense. But oftentimes, it feels like every booktuber is recommending the same few books.

Honestly really like the idea of a bookish version of the View but with BookAunties. It would share the burden of bad/stupid news across more shoulders, and turn it into a good time with good company. Even though CommuniTea brought me to your channel, it’s your reviews that made me sub and stay. Our tastes match half and half, but I like to hear other experiences of the same story, and I really appreciate your simple and honest delivery. I'm personally burnt out on book hauls that are so massive, the creator can't speak on each book individually and just lists/shows them. Huge book hauls are great for the ~algorithm~ so go girl, get those views. But it doesn't lend to a valuable viewing experience for me. I'd rather see a haul of 10-15 books where the creator can actually talk about why they got it, what seems interesting, etc. so I'm actually learning about new books.

For “lying” about a book I’ve decided that if I don’t feel comfortable talking about it then I just don’t include it. I read a book that is super loved by soooo many and it was very well written but there was just some content that I could not take and rather than tone down my review or enrage people online I just never talked about the book.

Do what makes you happy and gives you energy. You want to live life and not live your life for RU-vid. I think about those people who go to a concert and film it and don't just be in the moment enjoying/living it, but thinking how it will look afterwards and/or online. In the end, you won't regret not posting on RU-vid. You are more likely to regret posting something than not at all. Take care.

I've constantly tried to do a vlog for any book I'm reading but I keep forgetting haha - definitely agree with sharing personal life all the time, I do it enough on my bookstagram lol. I also sometimes feel like I don't look nice enough so there's also that lol

Haul videos in general just make the book community feel less accessible imo. Like, yes, people obv get books, but when it's a huge focus it just feels like it's a community requirement. I'm glad you're changing things up to feel more comfortable for you and to stay true to yourself!
