You put so many things into words that I've been unable to find myself- especially about being thrilled about the bare minimum in a man one is dating/involved with. Hits so hard. Thank you for this

loved everything about this! i live with someone who is so nastily patronizing to anyone skeptical about vaccines (and anything scientific for that matter) because she thinks stupid people are subhuman...it's infuriating to listen to her. even people who ask "stupid" (in her opinion) questions deserve to be ridiculed and not respected. also, 100% agree on everything you said about feminism and how glaringly obvious it is for women that being compassionate is effective, but not so for men...and the domestic labor statistics drives me up the wall. my dad is a wonderful father, but even he used to fall short on domestic labor when my siblings and i were kids. and this might be too personal of a topic, but i do find it interesting how you used to think you'd only date women, but end up marrying a man. i assume that was due to heteronormativity, but i'd love to hear more about that and your journey through bisexuality, if you ever feel comfortable and interested in talking about the subject! (it might also be in an older video....but with all the new feminist reading you've been doing lately, would love to see how much more your reading has shaped your views on sexuality)

I've been doing some reflection about how my white male privilege pretty much enables me and many other white men to perpetual manchildren at the expense of everyone (including ourselves). I've ordered the book and looking forward to being challenged, learning and growing. Thanks for the recommendation.

I think part of what hinders men actually doing the work is that they believe they have nothing to gain from feminism which is totally untrue. Not only do they have the small matter of *emotional intelligence* which literally helps them be better humans both towards themselves and others but they don’t realise that more women will actually want to be with them because they will appreciate that they actually care about this thing that has been so prevalent in our lives since literally day one. Ugh idk but it infuriates me that men act like it just isn’t their problem because IT ISSSSS

Because of your recommendation, I've read three Calvino this year. though none are If on a winter's night a traveler or The Baron in the Trees, but I am building towards it.

@zlzlzl2

Into the War, 1st one I did, two casual/nonchalant short stories, nothing standouts to impress. It does forebode the incoming great war, though there is no 'Calvino magic' about them. Invisible Cities, 2nd, more interesting and surreal, I like the time traversing aspect of it (as like Orlando), the poetic flow of each chapter is quite mesmerising, once I read more Goodreads reviews and start to get the idea of the book, I am quite impressed. Slow in some bits, but I would say I enjoyed it overall. Mr Palomar, the latest, is a bit more niche, more philosophical essay rather than a story, it is good writing, but you need to in tune with it to enjoy. I would say this is a book, where you comfortably sitting alone in a warm boutique café, next to some big windows and to contemplate life with.

I find in directing it’s about being a sift, you just make sure people go down in one direction in the funnel. That’s what I felt from directing this semesters production. Though yeah lots go into it and tyrant round instead of lead. Big sad.

I LOVED Carol the film, but I personally found the book a bit dry. I appreciated it for what it stood for, but in terms of enjoyment it was just lacking for me. I also though Thereze was such a different character in the book than in the film!

1:04. So, what was preventing you from reading the books you wanted to read prior to your 'film' degree? Does it have a name, what is it? Who prevented? Just curious.

FYI, she majors literature (prior to her film degree), so she spent most of her time reading school-required books. i guess that's what was preventing her from reading whatever she likes. hope this quenched your curiosity ;)

As much as I appreciate the standards you have on your checklists, I think you underestimate the immense place of privilege from which you are speaking in expecting men to go to therapy in their mid-twenties. I know so few men in their late twenties and thirties who can afford therapy - even those who REALLY need it because they have significant mental health issues that affect *them* and not just the women/people around them. I would advise you to shift that perspective from "they need to go to therapy" to "they need to have open conversations with other men and talk to their parents openly as well about the way they were raised". Also, goes without saying, but women can absolutely be as emotionally immature and just plain awful as men. Yes it is apparently more prevalent in the way men treat women, but maybe try moving away from such a black and white (and also binary) issue: people can be awful.
