I've been living in a 20 ft. tiny house for 6 years, and if I could design a new one, these are the changes I would make: 1.. Stairs instead of a ladder to the loft 2. Bathroom in the loft. I designed a toilet with a septic hose coming out the bottom that goes out the window and into the bathroom window below, and the toilet. 3. Front door on the side instead of front. You need 8 feet on one end to put in a regular couch comfortably. 4. Bathroom on other end, 8 feet wide, to have room for a decent shower, w/d, and maybe a sink 5. L-shaped kitchen for best use of room available.
Yes! When you live in a Tiny for a while you figure out what your specific needs are. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the changes you would make. It will help others when designing their Tiny. Thanks for watching and commenting😊💕 I hope you have a great week❤️
Yes! When you are young you are all about accumulating. Well, at least for me. As I get older, less is more. The less you have, the less you have to take care of❤️ Thanks Kathy for.tuning in every week. I appreciate all of you. I hope you have a great week😊💕
Love your videos! I was so excited to hear you are a nurse. I am in nursing school and just finished my 10th month. I can’t wait to get my tiny home after I graduate 👩🎓 and start working!! God bless you!❤
God bless you too! I know nursing school is very stressful, well it was for me. LOL. I wish you the best with your studies and clinicals! Getting a Tiny after graduation is a wonderful thing to look forward too! A whole new beginning of exciting adventures! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Erin! I wish you a great upcoming week😊❤️
@@simplylivingtiny awe my goodness thank you for the response!! I have been getting very overwhelmed lately! It’s a lot! I have two days off and then starting the next session. I just turned 42 so I am not in my 20’s like a lot of the students. Do you have any advice about how you delt with all the demands of school? Wishing you well!!🧡
A retired nurse here! I was 35 when I went back to school. Was an LPN and wanted my RN. How I did it was to work 12 hr shifts on weekends and so I had the whole week to dedicate to school and clinicals. My child was young and my husband would be home on weekends. She was in school during weekdays when I was in school. It worked out. The good thing I found about nursing was the interaction with the patients and families and the variety of jobs available. The best was hospice to me because I worked with some of the most genuine people ever. I retired early because I found that some of my healthiest patients were the ones not taking all the pills the doctors ordered. Best to you!!! I went tiny recently and love it!
A lot of your ideas are still attainable. Find a good handyman to put in the pull out drawers in your cabinets and do the pull out pantry/spice rack. You don't have to do everything at once, save up for one thing and then give yourself time to save for the next.
You’re right. I’m going to look into the pull out drawers next year. I think that will be a great project to work on😊 Thank you for your suggestion. I hope you have a wonderful upcoming week ❤️💕😊
I have been looking into getting pull out shelves for my kitchen. I share that burden of taking everything out just to get a certain pan ect. I just love watching your channel, you give a great insight of how tiny house living is, both the good and bad. ❤
Thank you so much Pixie Rose❤️ when I started the channel my number 1 goal was to be very transparent and share real life experiences while living in a Tiny. I feel for me, I have grown and learned some new skills since living in a Tiny. I have no landlord to call to fix things. Haha. It’s making me a well rounded person. Even at my age you can still learn new things. 😊 Thank you so much for the lovely comment ❤️ Thanks for watching and commenting! I hope you have a wonderful week😊💕
Good things to consider. Don’t be too hard on yourself, I’m sure lots of large home owners also have changes they’d like to make. Like you said, sometimes you have to live in a space first. ❤
Yes!!!! You are so right. Some of the things are easy to change but some can be changed with a hefty price. Hoping the info will give others something to think about. I hope you have a great week Beth❤️ thank you for always leaving a comment! I appreciate you All 💕😊🐶❤️
You can still add the pull outs in the cabinets. They have all sizes and styles on Amazon, wood and metal. We bought them for our home. Be sure to measure carefully to buy the right size or sizes.
Thank you Jenny for the recommendation. Another person commented on that too and said IKEA has them too. It’s something I’ll look into, probably next year. I ran across pull out pantry’s too😊❤️ Thanks for leaving a comment and watching! I appreciate you All!😊💕
Ah, Thank you so much and so happy you found the channel ❤️ Buddy is the star ⭐️ of the show🐶 Thanks for watching and I hope you check out the other videos too. Have a great week 😊❤️
The cost add up quick. I was an upgrade queen. LOL. Finally, I had to say no more add ons. You can always do future projects and just add things little by little😊 That’s what I’ve done. Adding a little more each year. Thank you Mary Jane for your comment. I love reading all the comments! I hope you have a great week❤️
As always a joy to see you and Buddy on Sunday morning. I wish i could give Buddy a kiss right on his adorable little face! 🥰 Thank you for the pointers! They certainly will help me when planning my tiny. We appreciate you sharing your experiences Brenda - to help us make ours even better! God Bless you and Buddy 💜🙏
Thank you so much Lizzie😊 I’m happy the videos help and my experiences will help make yours better ❤️ I’ll give Buddy a big kiss for you. He’s so sweet 🐶 May God Bless You and watch over you as you go through your week❤️🙏💕🐶😊
Thanks for your honesty Brenda. You’re not alone. When thinking about the future, I would like to have a bedroom on the first floor. I sleep on the couch in my tiny which is super comfy but can’t see making it and unmaking it every day when older. The loft is cute but going to the bathroom in the middle of the night makes me sleep on the first floor.
LOL. Yes that would get aggravating having to go downstairs every night. I do sometimes but not often. It’s another thing to consider for those who are looking to go Tiny. 😊❤️
Another great helpful video Brenda, very important things to definitely think about before purchasing a tiny home. I cant wait to be living in my tiny home one day soon. Thank you so much! You and Buddy have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you Maria😊I hope you get your Tiny soon ❤️ There are so many ways to design your Tiny and I hope the videos help to give you and others things to think about. I love my Tiny and live comfortably and have all I need. There are things I wish I had done differently but still make it work as is❤️ I appreciate you! I hope you have a wonderful weekend too 😊❤️
Another great video, Brenda! There are so many different ways to get a tiny home built and so many things to think about. I’m lucky to have the experience of a previous tiny home to draw on, but I’m going into a community so had to use a particular builder. I had to go with the layout I thought was best and I have a huge list of things to improve on once I get in. I’m edging closer and closer to my tiny arriving. The lot is all prepped now and gravel has been put down. Power and water are completed. I think it will be arriving within the next two weeks and then I’ll start more waiting for everything to get hooked up and stairs built. I’m hoping to be in by Thanksgiving. That’s my target date, anyway!
That’s wonderful Jaylynn! You are almost there. Did you go with a different design compared to your first Tiny or change the types of systems you use? I think it would be great to rent a tiny before having one built, if possible, so give you a better understand of how you can personalize the Tiny to meet the individual needs. I know you are very excited and please keep us updated. I do hope you are in your Tiny by Thanksgiving. A wonderful way to celebrate the holiday🦃❤️💕
@@simplylivingtiny Yes, it’s a completely different style home. The things I changed are the heating/cooling system (with mini splits), the water heater to on demand and I put a tub in the bathroom. This home has a loft and my other home didn’t. The other things I kept the same are a first floor bedroom big enough for a king size bed and a large front porch.
We are in process of building our own tiny. Good tips. Our home is on block foundation . No problem with wheel well. Like tips on kitchen changes like toe kick storage and mini split placement. Keep tips coming. ❤️
That’s a good question. I have a handheld vacuum I use. It works great. 😊❤️ thanks for the question. I hope you have a great day. Thanks for watching and commenting🍂😊
@@pamherndon9345 Thank you Pam😊 There are a lot of things to consider when going Tiny. I hope my experience helps others 💕 Thanks for watching and commenting😊💕❤️
I would think it was the builders responsibility to advise you on the build. To point out things that may go wrong from your choices. And even make some suggestions on how better to do something - they are the experts - Right?
Hello 😊 Yes you are right. The builders are the experts and help guide you through the build. Sometimes you don’t realize what things work best until you are actually living in that space daily. I wanted to share the things I would change after living in my Tiny for 5 years to offer some ideas to others that are maybe thinking about a new build or in the process of building. I love how tiny homes have evolved over the years. So many creative design plans for such a small living space. Hopefully some of the things I brought up will inspire others to incorporate some of these ideas. Thank you so much for your question and watching. 😊 I hope You have a great week. ❤️😊 I look forward to reading all the comments and engaging questions💕
An absolutely great video. We just puchased my mother's home. It is not a tiny home but is a very small one bedroom.I am learning a lot about storage ideas.Thank you so much. 😊
Thank you ❤️ In small spaces you have to get very creative and think outside of the box. It helps to use furniture that serves many purposes such as a couch with storage, coffee table that has storage, bookcase that have both shelves and drawers are a few examples. You can also choose kitchen appliances that serve multiple purposes like the Ninja air fryer and collapsible things like bowls and strainers to maximize your space. Best wishing in designing and looking for the perfect items in your new home❤️ I hope you have a great day and thanks for watching and commenting 😊💕
Hello Maria. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I hope the video gives you all some ideas of how you can implement even small things to make life a little easier and your things more assessable😊 I hope you have a great week 😊💕
IKEA has kitchen cabinet organizers. You have to take out the shelf in the cabinet and replace it with 3 wire baskets that slide in and out like drawers. They have different kinds. May even find an insert with 2 deep drawers on Amazon. At least you have a way to fix one of the issues. I couldn't go "real tiny." My tiny would have to be about 800-900 sf, like the mini mansions, since I'm in a wheelchair. All doors have to be wider, need a side x side w/d, and a larger shower and more storage. The park model size doesn't allow functional living in a chair. The great news is, I'm not going to have to worry about it, because the end is here. So excited.
Thank you for the information about IKEA. I’ll look in to it. Yes, being in a W/C would require many accommodations for you to have all your needs met. Of course Tiny homes are customizable but there are many ways to live in a smaller footprint other than Tiny Homes if that was something you would want to do. One of the great things about living in smaller homes is to be able to build a home around your needs instead of you adjusting to the home, the home is adjusted to you😊 I’m always looking for signs of the “end of times” according to the Word. You are right it is very near ❤️ Stay safe and God bless you! 😊💕
Good morning, I decided on a used 2021 farallon pacific, I just added the valuable door and window size information to check on today as I know I will need extra cooling at some point here in Florida! The step down into the tiny at your doorway would bother me too, I saw another one like that so I choose a different door placement 😊 Have a nice day, enjoy your fresh air breezes, looking forward to more of your videos!
Thank you Alison😊 Some things you don’t realize until it’s too late for example the window size. I never gave the size any thought until I had issues with my mini-split. There is always the option of altering a window in the future to where a window air conditioner can fit if ever needed. But thinking about these things ahead can save you money in the future. The weather in TN is so strange. It’s a roller coaster of hot and cooler days, so taking advantage of the cooler ones this weekend and it will be hot again next week. LOL. I’m excited for you in getting a Tiny! Keep us updated on how everything is going😊 I hope you have a great week😊❤️
@@simplylivingtiny Same to you! and Buddy of course, I’m so glad we “met” 😍 90 % of the year my area is absolutely beyond brutally hot and extremely humid! 🥵 The tiny has been on my bucket list since they were first featured on hgtv , it’s now or never! lol I sure hope I’m making the right decision 🤔I haven’t had a mortgage since 2006 . . . I’ll be wrapping things up with the mortgage company this week 😉🤞
Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Cute dog. I'm trying to figure out how to work in 1 small dog and 4 cats in a tiny home. Their food storage alone takes up space. One cat is on an Rx diet, so there is more than usual. I feed both dry and wet food.
The great thing about working with a good builder they can build spaces for your needs. If you have stairs there is always great storage in the stairs. I have seen other have an outdoor space for their animals with a little door they can go in and out of and be in a safe place outside. Some have outdoor shed and have outdoor “garage” built on the end of their tiny home. The possibilities are endless. I hope some of these ideas help❤️ Thank you for watching and commenting Catherine. I hope you have a great day😊💕
I'm a senior. No stairs or lofts!@simplylivingtiny The space where it will go on my daughter's property is limited too. It's on a slope. I would definitely want it designed for me. We plan on a fenced area for the dog. My cats are all indoor only. Her place is on a freeway frontage road. No outdoor cats for me.
I don't have a tiny home yet I hope to get one at the beginning of summer...Toe kick is a must for me I have lots of kitchen stuff..I want a downstairs bedroom and I am not sure about putting a loft in yet...And I also want it to be 10 wide because I don't plan on moving it
It’s exciting to think about your design and all the amazing possibilities you can do with such a small footprint 👣 It does not sound like much but having that extra 1.5 feet really does make a difference. In a small space every inch matters. Please keep us updated on your journey. Can’t wait to hear more. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great week😊💕
Another great video with lots of wonderful ideas ...Thank you Brenda for sharing your knowledge on tiny homes...It will be very helpful for the ones who are thinking about living in a tiny home....See you next time and give Buddy a big hug from me and my Desi ...🐾🐾👻🎃👻🐾🐾
Good morning to you and Buddy! Thanks for all the tips! Like you, I watch a lot of tiny home videos and am making notes! You gave me things I didn't think about today! Have you ever wished you got a bedroom on the main floor? I plan to age out in my tiny so that is a concern of mine. Currently I am loving the tiny homes built by Indigo River Tiny Homes and they have stand up lofts! Would love to know your thoughts on the loft situation. Have a great day!
Good morning Ronda. 😊 When I had my Tiny built at that time they were not making many homes with downstairs bedroom. It is much better to have a downstairs bedroom because it is easier to navigate especially when making your bed. LOL. I find that is a challenge. I have ideas in my home if it gets to where I am not about to go up and down the tiny stairs on how to incorporate a sleeping area downstairs. If I didn’t have my desk for work then I would have more room for something like a day bed. A lounging space in the day and a bed at night. Something to consider, if you feel you will have trouble with stairs in the future, I would recommend working with your builder to go ahead now and design your home with a downstairs bedroom and you can have a stand up loft bedroom for guest. Just a thought. There are so many wonderful Tiny designs to met your specific needs❤️ I’m not familiar with Indigo River Tiny. I’ll check them out. I hope you have a Great Day too! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment😊💕🐶
Oh goodness. I haven’t thought about it. If I met someone I would think we would discuss it together. I see in other You Tube videos couples living in a Tiny and some with small kids so I know it’s doable. Thank you for the question😊 and thanks for watching. I hope you have a great day❤️😊
I love all our nurses! We give up a lot of ourselves to help others as many professions do. It’s hard but rewarding ❤️ I’m so looking forward to retirement. I. Have about 12 years left if I work to 67 yrs. Time is winding down. LOL! Thank you for all you have done to help others! I hope retirement treats you well! May you have a very blessed week😊❤️🐶
Hello Lashun. 😊 I have already done a video on the mini-split and showed how I blow air through the line. This is what heating and air people did it so I learned it from them. Check out the video. I show how to take it apart, clean it, blow out the line. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I hope you have a great day😊❤️
Good morning 😊 Have cabinets with drawers, my opinion, would be much easier to reach things in the back of the cabinet. I do have to pull everything out to reach something in the back. It would be a great time saver if you didn’t have to do that and make your cooking activity simpler. I’ve seen this feature in other tiny homes and how I wish I implemented this in my Tiny. I love the pull out pantry and toe kicks too. Leave no space unusable. ❤️ Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you have a great day💕
LOL😂 It would seem that way. There are things I definitely didn’t consider. Hopefully the videos will help others to think about things I didn’t think about❤️ Thank you for watching and commenting. I hope you have a wonderful who 😊❤️
