Thank you!! My parents told me I could get either a bearded dragon, hermit crabs, or a turtle and I have NO clue what to get so I’m researching all of them so I could pick which one is best for me.
@@DoubleDragonHotel for babies, arent dubia roaches a bit tricky since they are kinda big and thick? it was ok for my juvenile, but my baby was so small compared to the dubia roaches, making it harder to eat.
I've been thinking about getting a Bearded dragon but I am currently in the research stage and I appreciate the information that you are providing. Keep up the good work and very funny bloopers
I just got out of research stage. Text my bf today with "i did a thing" and he replied with "bought a pocket dragon didnt you?" yes. Yes i did and her name is cuddles (after a pocket dragon adventures character) she's super cuddly, fell asleep on the bus home and loving life in her new home
Did you get one?!?! How’s it going if so? I in the process of setting up my enclosure atm…. And doing some last min research! An yes also ty so much for this video and the others!
@@lyricly3100 Good Afternoon! No I have decided to hold off on getting one until I am down to one dog because I currently have 2 dogs and I am not sure how one of them would be with a bearded dragon, But when I do decide to get one I plan to get everything needed for him/or her before I actually get one. I also would like to be in a house instead of an apartment.
100% Agree with everything mentioned. My Beardie is 11 Months, first pet lizard and reptile. I thought I did a lot of research, and foolishly listened to the pet shop employees of big name stores who just said things to say them when I was a little confused, to sell me things. Luckily after realizing mistakes and continually striving to be a good beardie mom, I kept researching and people like you have made the care so much easier. My little guy almost ate me out of house and home (with all the bug runs I was making)! I didn't even know you could order bugs in bulk till months later! lol I learned there is a local pet shop not even far from me who specialize in JUST reptiles. I support them now and go to them for supplies and update them on how he is doing. Finding a trusted vet who specializes in reptiles/beardies is important too, cause sometimes doctors will take them in appointments and then shrug. xDDD
Also, it is possible to potty train beardies. Mine doesn't go in his tank, I put him in a plastic container with a bit of warm water that he poops in, then take him out and clean him off, and flush the dirty water down the toilet. :)
Perfect timing! I just got a 6 year old rescue beardy who was kept in a 20 gallon long and had the same lights his whole life. He is super stunted and has a kinked tail and some missing nails. I can not wait to upgrade him and give him all if the lights he needs! I named him Elvis. P.S. I was the 100th like on you video!
Also bearded dragons are very prone to parasites - I wish I’d known that beforehand. I’ve had my 4-month-old baby bearded dragon for two months and she‘S had pinworms and now Coccidia, and the treatment for it, vet visits, and supplies have been very expensive and time consuming. I spent $250 to get her from a reputable breeder so I’d have a healthy one. I estimate I’ve spent about $2K on her altogether in setup, purchases, vet fees, supplies, feeders, etc just in the past two months. I have to deep clean her tank and give her meds for Coccidia which takes two hours every day (and I‘ve never fed her crickets specifically to avoid the parasites.) Although she’s super sweet, if I’d known how expensive and how much work she’d be the first year I would have gotten a snake instead. And I did A LOT of research for months before I got her. I really wish that people would make it known how much work bearded dragons are and how many things could potentially go wrong especially when they’re young (the babies are more work than puppies in my experience) bc it’s a true disservice to the animal and the owner when people portray them as “the easiest reptile” or a “great beginner pet.” So thanks for your honesty.
And also when deep cleaning, I wish I’d known you have to clean with a steam cleaner and an ammonia solution because bleach and reptile-safe cleaner for spot cleaning doesn’t kill Coccidia.
My baby Paco eats his salads so so easily I love him I have had him a week and I'm so so in love with him (I don't know if he's male or female he's still too young for anyone to tell so he's a he for now)
So I actually cant use the tube lights because i cant properly dispose of them. i cant throw them in the trash and nowhere in my area will dispose of them. what im going to do instead of the single basking light and single compact coil UVB is have a third light that will also be UVB. I already have the beardie and if i rehome him to anyone nearby then they will have the same issue or just simply not take care of him and i cant risk that.
I love this!! I just got my beardie (10 weeks old) a week ago, and she's only pooped 3 times since then. she ate her worms and veggies very steadily and was such a good girl, and yesterday I fed her 37 small dubia for the first time and she hasn't pooped yet, and I don't want to overfeed her. I gave her just 5 dubia today to make sure she wasn't hungry even though she seemed full and hadn't pooped. any tips? tysm!
I know I’m so late but I’m doing deep research in and out, would half play sand and half topsoil be a good bedding? I’ve gone back and fourth on the idea everyone is 50/50 I really want a good bedding for my new babies
So i have wanted a bearded dragon for a while now, is it possible for me to go to school for 8 hours and my parents can’t really check on it very often! Thanks you so much!
and i have made lots of mistake with her ,i had her when i was 12, im 16 now and i made lots of mistake this year since my parents divorced and i see her one week on two. i'm not proud and i'm determined to threat her better and to get her happier .
When you say that sand is bad, is that all sand in general or just calcium sand? I was thinking of getting some natural sand for mine so i was just wondering :)
@@malurobinson746 i'm getting my beardy today and i have repti carpet laid down in my enclosure. i'm not sure how it's gonna work out, but i have heard of people that really enjoy the ceramic tiles because they're really easy to clean. i'd say anything that works the best for you and your bearded dragon!
I keep a list on my phone of "safe" foods for my Cornelious (and there's a ton!). Every time he tries something new, I mark it with a check. If it's something he seems to really like, I mark it with a heart. If it's something he shouldn't have too often, I mark it with a "thumbs down" just so I know not to give it to him too much. So far (had him 8 months) his favorites are mustard greens, butternut squash, acorn squash, dubia & hornworms. He doesn't seem keen on bee pollen though, which I thought they all loved. He was scared of hornworms for a minute too lol
@@nintendobluerose9776 I have a lot of local reptile breeder friends that also breed superworms, dubia roaches, rats & mice etc. If they are out, I have a couple local reptile shops that carry supers & dubia, too. Also I accidentally started my own dubia colony so that helps lol
Hey Elle, just found your channel today and it is really helpful. I didn't plan on getting a beardie but my mom's friend had a stroke and now I have his dragon, Karl. I want to make sure he is getting proper care and I appreciate what you are doing on this channel. :)
So far the Juvie beardie I care for poops outside of his enclosure. Getting him out on a towel approximately same time every morning, within 5 mins to 30 mins he goes. a worm on his salad placed on this towel tends to encourage him to poop sooner if I need to run. Great video thank you for all your help. Roaches are awesome!
If I got a baby leopard gecko and a bearded dragon at a pet supplies plus, petsmart, petco or whatever else, Will I be able to tame them like I would if I git them from a breeder? I'm asking because there aren't any local Reptile stores around even though I thought there used to be, but I guess not. Pet supplies plus is like 5 minutes away and they have baby bearded dragons and leopards geckos.
No, that is not accurate, and dubia roaches and worms are a much better option anyway. Her bad info has just made me unsubscribe from her channel. Such a shame.
This was awesome show today. Helpful information on bearded dragon's and letting people know we all can make mistakes but then we can correct that mistake. We are not all perfect but we can learn from others mistakes. Thank you so much. God Bless see you next Sunday
@@ellesreptiles Thank you and I will have a great week looking forward to your next show. Can you do more on tarantulas I have 3 now and can use all the help I can get. God Bless
Ok thinking mine is stressed and don't know why. He has black marks on the side of his face. Is that normal? Heat and everything is good that I know. Take him outside too in a different cage and let him sit in the sun. I'm trying
These are great tips! Thank you :) My beardie is STILL a super picky eater!! He is almost 2, but will only eat maybe once a week (salad OR bugs!). I always worry that something is wrong, but I offer him food, and he just doesn't eat it until he wants to.
So far Nikki is being a picky eater , but it is his first week .I'm hoping he starts eating more than crickets once he's adjusted . He also likes to poop in his salad often. Thank you again for these videos they're very helpful . I'm still learning after 2 years
I'm getting my first beardie soon... I've ordered a 4' x 2' x 2' viperia black pvc tank with a mesh lid, the shop I'm getting the beardie from said they don't recommend pvc and they said I should have gotten wood but ive already bought it due to it being highly recommended. They'll still allow me to get the beardie but I have to sign a form which is slightly worrying, just searching for advice as you seem to be the best person to ask!
I just got my first Bearded Dragon and she was abandoned by a family member her tank was covered in poo and she flat as a pancake. I thought she was dead. Thank you so much for your videos. They are tremendously informative ❤
I have a western beardie, which are typically smaller and grow only to to fifteen centimetres but he would eat like 20 in a sitting AAND STILL BE HUNGRY!!
I started giving my baby beardie salad in the morning when she first woke. Because she’s extremely hungry when she wakes up and will eat anything . Now she LOVES salad at 3 months old.
Omg 80/100 crickets? I'm so glad here in the UK we get a good supply of locusts. High protein and mine as a baby on 8 locusts a day. As.well as her veg. Still needed a decent size container though.
I will not have roaches, even if they like them I would not have them in my house avoid buying them I will never feed them to them my little Beardy loves lettuce and hornWorms are their favorite. But they never have them at the store. They’re always out.
Why is sand a bad thing or frowned upon? I'm thinking about pur having a bearded dragon so I've been watching alot of videos to be prepared before hand and this is the first I've heard this. I own several Crested geckos so I'm not totally ignorant to caring for reptiles, but I know dragons are alot different. So anything I don't already know would help tremendously.
Mealworms are a perfectly fine food sorce as well. If you would like a more in depth video on different feeders, Cold Blooded Creations has some great videos on bearded dragons.
I've done research but got allot of different answers. She is about 2 years old. I only have 1 vet here that takes reptiles. I'm worried that she's sick and not in brumation
So can you please tell me what i need? So i need a uvb ling tube light t5 right? And than heat lamp with deep dome dimmer switch? Some peoole use another light to immitate sun light also, is this nessesary? Or just uvb light tube and heat lamp in deep dome with dimmer switch??
My dragon won’t eat unless I feed her each worm by hand hahaha she will eat but she likes it better when I baby her haha she reminds me of a puppy without the barking and poop haha her behaviors are snuggly :)
Thanks Elle! Just got a beardie a few days back and have already been struggling with crickets and running to local stores to pick up more because, like you said, i was unprepared for just HOW MUCH my juvenile eats! Didnt know about Dubia roaches but they sound far superior to crickets. I just signed up with the Dubia dude for weekly deliveries! Your videos have been soooo helpful in answering questions i have and getting my set up right!
i just got my first lizard and its a bearded dragon and we named him cricket bc he loves crickets😂he also likes kale to but we cant find any fruits and vegetables that he likes yet besides kale haha
This is a bit late but one super tip to get them eat anything is adding bee polen, springle some on the food and you will see they will eat anything, it makes them think the food is bugs, and it's super good for them, researche it and you will see, hope this helps
I've been thinking of getting a bearded dragon for some time now, and have been doing the research, including watching a ton of RU-vid videos on the subject. This is the first video where poop has been discussed and I think I might take a pass now. While I was under no illusion that they would poop (all animals poop) your description of it I think has told me that bearded dragons aren't for me. I don't own and will never own a dog because I find dog poop so completely disgusting. Just seeing it triggers my gag reflex. Cleaning a cat box is fine, but dog poop, forget it.
I just found your channel,it’s very helpful. I just got my five yr old, grandson a breardie, he wanted a pet at my house. Anyway found your channel, and everything I was told or read from the “pet store “, was wrong, like feeding them crickets once a week, kale and spinach salad, fruit as a treat. As for handling him, we started the second day, he doesn’t run and hide and loves to cuddle! And when my grandson goes home grandpa has “Toco” out for cuddles 😆🥰 Thank you so much for the great information on beardies, we are learning a lot!❤️❤️
About getting bearded dragons, especially babies to eat their salad, I've heard that fruit does the trick sometimes, as they like the sweet smell and taste of the fruit and when they eat the fruit, they inevitably get some greens in their mouth as well and eat it and then they end up eating the salad every day like they are supposed to. I don't know how well it works, adding fruit to their salad, but I figure that when I get a bearded dragon, if it doesn't eat it's salad, I might try adding fruit to it to see how well that works. As for the lots of bugs thing, I already knew that going into deeper research on bearded dragon care. That's why I plan on breeding my crickets and my roaches. The superworms on the other hand, I don't plan on breeding, as it would only be a few of those per insect feeding, so even 100 superworms would be several months worth.
