im going to college next fall for elementary education! Im so excited!!! I have been volunteering at schools for a while but I have no idea what to expect. Now I know and being a teacher is gonna be expensive.

I spent almost three years trying to convince my granddaughter to NOT get a degree in education. It killed me to do this, but I felt responsible for her welfare if she did become a teacher. I taught for 31 years and absolutely loved it until the last 5 years when things became absolutely unbearable. It breaks my heart that my granddaughter will not become a teacher-she would have become the 5th generation in our family to be a teacher.

Aww that’s kind of hard, who knows her heart may change one day! Everyone has different boundaries in what they are able to tolerate but the gift of being able to teach is amazing! Thanks for teaching for 31 years as well :)

Tania, the problem is not with her heart, it is with the educational system, the lack of respect for the profession, and the fact that greed supersedes the needs of children at every turn. As for my career, no need to thank me. I had the time of my life and received endless heaps of blessings everyday and in every way!

I’m majoring in early childhood right now in the fall and I want to be a preschool teacher but then I want to be a neonatal nurse . Do you think I should major in early childhood education?

Ahh that is a hard choice, I think you should pick whichever one you are most passionate about! Could you maybe major in nursing and minor in education? You could also stay with nursing then, when you want to switch to teaching do an alternative teaching program! Keep your options open and who knows when you start taking class you may start to like one more than the other ☺️ keep me updated on what you decide !! Also, think about your WHY for each !

Notes (using this comment to learn from the vid) - lesson planning can be hard, but you will get through it - you learn a lot : math and even teaching elementary school lvl math - education majors have a packed schedule - testing for praxis core is a test you will need to take

Hi I am a freshmen in college and what is the difference between majoring in education and minoring in it? Does a minor still have a good benefit? What is the big difference?

Hey, thanks for watching! I’m not too familiar with minoring education, but I think as long as you get your license you should be good. It may also depend on what you want to do with a degree. For example, if you want to teach, then you may want to look into making sure the program has a licensure, but if you just want to know the science behind education then you may be able to minor in it.

@franciscaarthur1518 I forgot most of my textbooks, but here are some of the ones that I used! Phonics and word Study for the teacher of reading ESOL for teachers Educational psychology Dynamic social studies Literacy in early grades Families, schools, and communities Classroom differentiation (my fav by Tomlinson) Hope this is helpful !

What score do you need on your SAT to be exempt from the basic skills test?

It truly depends on what state you’re in and what the certification requires. The certification coordinator at your school will know the exact score for your state/ certification!
