this episode was sooooo sad, but needed

My favorite episode of the whole season. Since we are talking about Multiverse, anything can happen, and here the villain won and his whole universe was destroyed and that was pretty shocking to see. Loved the reaction! Can't wait for the next one.

This is arguably the best episode in this series. Also, there aren't "so many octopus things", it's same octopus thing.

In the end, though, no one died. Their existence was undone. How can something that doesn't exist anymore die? For Strange, though, there is only existence in his reality... at least, what is left of his reality...It is hard to imagine, though easy to name, where he is. He is trapped in a perpetual state of being, with only his grief, sadness, anger, and pain. I would definitely call that a hell of his own making!

This one should really be, "What If Doctor Strange Had Been A Better Boyfriend?" because the fact that he and Christine didn't break up is the fundamental difference - the Nexus Event - in this universe. Similar to how in the last one the Nexus Event is Hope Van Dyne joining S.H.I.E.L.D..

Probably the best episode in the whole series, so fascinating

Love this episode since it reminds me of one of my favorite rap verses: "If the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never, because a dance with the devil might last you forever"

What I really liked about episode four is that what if the 2016 movie had turned out so differently and what would happen if our Doctor Strange ends up creating a time paradox.

This episode is even better than the movie.

Usually, What If? comics where things end badly feel edgy to me. This one actually felt tragic, and that's a real accomplishment.

What If is low key one of the best Marvel shows so far.

This episode really envisions the multiverse theory where “When you think of doing something, you’re alternate self has already decided on doing it” and that world sees the results. Kind of…. Lol

This one is incredibly tragic

H.P. Lovecraft created an Eldritch universe populated by the Elder Gods the most famous of which is Cthulu. The game Call of Cthulu is based on this lore. Cthulu is described as a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus shaped head whose face was a mass of feelers, tentacles, a scaly, rubbery looking body, claws on hind and fore feet and long narrow wings behind. Anytime they show monsters which are mostly tentacles...they are evocative of Lovecraft's written works. 😮 Uatu, The Watcher is a race of beings called Watchers who observe the events proceeding throughout the Multiverse. Their main code is to observe and not interfere. Uatu has gotten into deep water multiple times because he just cannot help himself from trying to give aid to noble heroes. It is Uatu who is depicted in the pages of the Fantastic Four as well as What If? comic books. There is an end credits scene which shows a group of Watchers...in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 with Stan Lee listing his various cameos.

Hey, Emme! The darkest chapter yet! Here's my take on EPISODE 4: The point of divergence occurred at some point during the relationship between Christine Palmer and Stephen Strange because, in this universe, they are a romantic couple rather than amicable, flirtatious former flames. This causes her to be a passenger on the fateful car ride to the awards ceremony that robs the doctor of what is most precious to him. However, in this universe, the most precious thing to Strange are not his hands but Christine. The title is a metaphor. Everyone from the films returns to voice their character including Leslie Bibb, the ambitious journalist from the "Iron Man" movies, Christine Everhart, as a news reader reporting on a deadly apartment fire. New character, O-Bengh, which is an alias of Marvel's Cagliostro, is voiced by Ike Amadi. In 2018, prior to Thanos' attack, Strange uses the Time Stone to change Christine's fate in 2016 but learns it is an Absolute Point in time. Apparently, the universe requires him to become the Sorcerer Supreme meaning that the destruction of his hands in our universe is its Absolute Point in order to yield the same outcome. After multiple iterations of Christine's death, the Ancient One appears in 2016 which is prior to her first meeting with the man although this is the time-traveling Strange from 2018. She attempts to dissuade a distraught Strange from his present course. He refuses to comply and disappears but not before the Ancient One splits him in half so that his half-self in 2018 abandons the notion of meddling with fate and joins Wong for tea. Meanwhile, the time-traveling half of Strange finds himself in a primeval jungle outside an ancient temple that houses the Library of Cagliostro. Its caretaker, O-Bengh, guides Strange inside. O-Bengh has heterochromatic eyes and is most certainly Cagliostro himself. Cagliostro, in our history, was an 18th-century alchemist and astrologer who entertained the courts of Europe. In Marvel Comics, Cagliostro is a real sorcerer of tremendous power and long life who taught several magic-users and possessed the Darkhold for a time. He went by the alias O-Bengh. Strange spends CENTURIES absorbing extradimensional beings including a portion of SHUMA-GORATH to amass enough power to alter an Absolute Point. At one point, he senses a disapproving Uatu. When he is done, O-Bengh dies of old age revealing to Strange that he is only half a man and cannot succeed. The Ancient One sends a psychic echo of herself beyond the point of her death in 2017 to the half-Strange of 2018 to inform him of his role in the universal collapse and the threat of his other self. He and a dissolving Wong cast protective runes on Strange's face before he is snatched to 2016 by his dark half. The Stranges battle, the Cloak of Levitation is shredded and the protective runes are swept away! The two halves merge and Christine is restored to a demonic Strange as the universe collapses. Strange shelters the two of them in a pocket mirror dimension and sees Uatu! He beseeches the Watcher for aid! Uatu condemns Strange for not heeding his warning and those of Wong, the Ancient One and O-Bengh leaving him to his fate as Christine dissolves away. Trapped in his mirrored prison, Strange is all that remains of his universe. A horrifically tragic installment of "What If...?". I wonder what became of Mordo in this universe? His disillusionment with sorcerers was certainly borne out with this Dark Strange!

And that is why we have in the Loki series the TVA, to prevent variants from destroying the universe.

This is one of the darkest episodes from "What If...? (TV series)" Season 1.

One of the very few "What If...?" episodes that was actually written as a proper "What If...?" should be in this season and it just so happens to also be the best episode out of them all, coincidences? Still isn't 100% correct, but when you see what the others did wrong with the concept, this simply overshines

And then we have Dr.Strange in the movies that loses all of his fights against dumb enemies (even in his own movies) and uses his powers to move stuff and make magical notes... They wasted so much potential in the MCU for such a complex character just to highlight other weak and boring characters

This is my favorite episode by far. One reason is that there are real consequences and things really change as a result of the actions of Doctor Strange. The thing I never really liked about What If is that it seemed like there was a dictate that when the comic ended things were different but mostly the same. That wasn't always the case but of the ones I read the end left things not all that different. To me it kind of felt like a ripoff.
