Producer David Permut has been shepherding a film based on the wild true story about the male exotic dancing enterprise Chippendales for well over twenty years. After takes from directors Barry Sonnenfeld, Tony Scott, and Alan Ball didn't pan out, the most recent incarnation first entered the development stages in the summer of 2017, with a script penned by Isaac Adamson, based on an unpublished manuscript by Rodney Shelton. Joining Permut as producers would be Gary Michael Walters, Svetlana Metkina, and David and Michel Litvak of Bold Films and Ben Stiller and Nicholas Weinstock of Red Hour Films. Stiller was also attached to play dance troupe choreographer Nick de Noia, while Dev Patel would play Chippendales' founder Steve Banerjee. Four years later, the project was taken to 20th Century Studios and Regency Enterprises, with Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo rewriting the script and Stiller no longer attached to co-star in the film. Replacing Stiller would be Seth Rogen, while Elle Fanning was cast as Playboy model Dorothy Stratten and Craig Gillespie was attached to direct. Alas, no further news ever came of the project. Follow me and ponder the question, "What if...?"
