Drew, the games rather simple; the scoring system is between 3 factors: Population, Economy, and Size. If you have a giant population, you'll get a lot of score, if you have a massive economy, you'll get a lot of score, and if you are huge, you'll get a lot of score. One thing to note is that New Zealand always gets a giant economy at the end of the game since it just sits there and invests in into economy the entire game, and Bangladesh tends to win with population because it has super high population to begin with.

How the score works: 1. Population: self explanatory, how many ppl are living in the country. 2. Economic: I'm not 100%, but it's either how much a country earns per turn or how much money a country currently has. I think it's the later. 3. Prestige: pretty sure this value is for how many battles/wars have been won, with defeating stronger countries giving more prestige. To get their positions on the leaderboard, the 3 scores are added together. If an unexpected country is on the list, it means that the country hasn't been attacked much/at all, so their economic score keeps going up. So their population and prestige is a small score, but their economy is huge and makes their overall score huge too. If you want a reliable way to tell who did best, ignore economic score. I don't think there's a way to filter/list what you want, so sucks a bit, but it's still a pretty reliable leaderboard.

The reason New Zealand wagon was because of their economy. In this fame you can improve provinces and economy, and if a country this small got 3rd then their economy and provinces are going to have tons of infrastructure and “economy” (economy in the game makes it to where you can spawn more troops on a province AND the province earns you more money per turn).

This makes me happy.

How the scoring works is there are 3 categories, population, economy, and prestige. Population is how many people your nation has, farms, province growth rate, goods, and technology determine how fast a nation's population grows. Economy is how much money a nation generates, workshops, city investments, budget investments, technology, and development affect economic growth and income generation. Finally prestige, how many provinces captured, wars fought, and battles won. A combination of these scores as to overall score, which determines ranking. Some small counties like New Zealand can turtle and gain lots of economic score by investing heavily in one city while not fighting wars and with a small population. I suggest you look at different map modes because it can reveal how well a nation is actually doing underneath the surface. Province stability can be real low and revolts can destroy a seemingly strong nation while low economic and population score can hinder a nation's ability to produce a big army. Geography also changes a lot, some places have naturally high growth rates that make having a big population easier, for example, Indoneisa or Western Europe. Some places like Siberia will make your nation look thicc but not produce money or people. All the map modes are worth a gander during these videos to reveal a bit more.
