@@NapiLP Do me a favor and look into the history of RX-8 ALMS/IMSA cars with 3-rotors. Rotaries are only unreliable when they don't have proper oiling and premix, and literally require you to occasionally kick the shit out of them by taking them to redline. Just look at the incredible beating the Angel Motorsports REPU has taken without any damage to the core engine.

They had the engine tuned down several thousand rpm also to help reliability. They said that the car could have much more power if they ran it full power.

6 rotor will be going in the Indy car, he's just got the cosworth engine to learn it all :) i think the Diablo is staying as it is. Though they have been working on the Vette recently

and this is how we ended up with afterburning jet engines running 4500kw being used to drive a combination of electric motors, turbulence generators to flame out the engines behind us., and fan-car downforce. Our push to pass injects HF for that extra oomph.

@PYXB3 Three times is wrong however, and its not triple the displacement. Just as a 50cc two stroke bike has 50cc's worth av displacement, so does the rotary. Which is why they are not known for their torque, but they have characteristics more akin to a two stroke engine which is more bangs per revolution. extra displacement was done in racing classes because rotaries had an unfair advantage, just like 2T bikes had compared to 4T bikes. The actual displacement is still about 650cc per rotor, you have three sides per rotor BUT, and this is a big but! the actual rotor spins a third of the speed as the eccentric shaft thanks to a gear reduction. Which means one side per rotor fires every e-shaft rotation, one time every 360 degree is just like a two stroke. TL;DR - No you don't count extra displacement for a rotary it just fires more often than a regular 4 stroke, and the same amount of times per shaft revolution as a two stroke engine would.

@@StarkRaven59 mate you two cant seem to understand that the V6's can be screamers at 15K rpm, but the turbos and hybrid systems reduce the sound, and the teams never use that 15K rpm rev limiter as the power of the engine is between 11-13K RPM depending on the manufacturer. a V5/I5 with the same RPM would sound just as "rumbly" and low-pitch as these current engines. they just need more RPM and less MGU-H and turbos.

@@emmanouilk9991 fuel flow limit is the cap if they had higher or unlimited fuel flow they could rev the engines to 15k+ and make peak power at redline

@@emmanouilk9991 the FIA mandate that the engines rev no more than 15k RPM. I believe that this RPM cap is also due to be reduced in the comig season too. The current engines can, likely, quite easily, rev to 18k RPM or more if they were to remove the limitations put in place by the FIA. In fact, Danny Ric's old Renault accidentally rev'd beyond the 15k limit for a fraction of a second in his final season with them a few years back for which he received a reprimand and grid penalty following one of his best qualifying achievements with the team. Simply put, it is not the case that these engines are running out of revs, moreover, it's that they are artificially limited to that level of RPM by 'the man'

Nah, NA rotaries live just fine, especially in race cars. Rotaries *need* revs and most daily driving lacks that. Hell, Mazda 787 won because it was reliable, not because it was fast.

Rotaries die because their apex seals wear out, which probably wont happen in a few hundred miles even at redline.

24hr of LeMans is not a few hundred miles. And a 787B won that.

Torque doesn't say much though except how strongly it wears the gearbox

@@kerimca98 Torque, especially paired with its distribution in the rev range, says a lot about the character of the engine. If I say that an engine has 500 hp and 870 Nm, you immediately know that it is a very different engine than one with 500 hp and 400 Nm, and you also know that you will have to drive the car completely differently.

That 787B was vastly underpowered. Mazda's goal was never to win Le Mans, and it was quite literally on the same performance levels as Group C2 cars. The 787B was just a marketing tool. And when all the top dogs such as Mercedes, Jaguars, and Porsche began to broke down the Mazda still went on. And you can guarantee they told the drivers to drive as cautiously as possible when they realized they could win. The best Le Mans engine is probably the Flat 6 turbos of the 956 and 962 since they could produce a ton of power whilst being reliable. So I doubt a 1000 horsepower probably 10k+ rpm rotary engine would survive very long.
